The movie that you could not pronounce, "Yojimbo" (YO-JIM-BO) is from Akira Kurosawa, about a masterless samurai wandering through a town ruled by two rival gangs and he decides to take advantage of the situation by making himself available to the highest bidder as a potential bodyguard. This movie was remade later by Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood as "A Fistful of Dollars" basically launching the Spaghetti Western. And as I understand it, Kurosawa's most famous movie "Seven Samurai" is getting a 4K release soon. Perhaps it is time that I purchase a TV that is 4K compatible! 😊
Yeah, kind of shocking! A movie that created a saying - "the Rashomon effect". So many other features and countless TV shows have duplicated "Rashomon". "Courage Under Fire" with Denzel Washington being the best of these in my opinion.
Trainspotting is a hell of a ride. Don’t turn away during certain scenes! Looking forward to your review. Ewan Mcgregor is amazing. You’ll laugh and also be horrified during some scenes as well. Enjoy !
Great pickups! Straw Dogs is great but a hard watch! I need to repick it up. I sold the criterion dvd I had years ago and regret it lol. I had the same reaction to Mudbound in my part 1 video.
I picked up dogfight over the weekend. Also picked up wildlife. Slowly checking out each of the five Barnes and nobles in New Hampshire. Have one more to check out next week!
For a second I thought you were starting a Howard Hawks collection with Only Angels (Dawn Patrol, 1938, was really good). Outrageous Fortune is a fun watch, similar to Big Business. Straw Dogs is really good, but it's a serious home invasion-type drama. John Candy has been showing up in my recent movie watches (JFK, 1941{absolutely over the top hilarious}, and Nothing But Trouble (a flop but the Eldona character is funny). Mudbound was excellent, but beware of super-disturbing material at the end. I hope someone reviews Girlfight, seems like it could be similar to Million Dollar Baby.
I was so happy to see you picked up Only Angels Have Wings. Its a wonderful drama! And dare-I-say maybe my favorite Cary Grant film from the 28 that I have seen? Maybe? I don't know, either way, it's very compelling! The supplements on that are pretty good too. Enjoy! Also, Citizen Kane, watch it again one day with your adjusted expectations. I think you'll be surprised when you watch it knowing what it is, not what people have hyped it up to be. And if by chance you just really DON'T like it, that's of course fine, check out the Roger Ebert commentary track - whether you like the film or not, taht is one of the best commentary tracks ever recorded, and it's really fascinating. That alone made me appreciate the film. So yeah, you didn't like it, but don't write it off yet ;-)
It’d be awesome if north by northwest would get a criterion 4K blu ray release this year you’d think it would considering its celebrating the 65th anniversary for the movie
I picked up Dead Man, Night and the City blu rays. And The Roaring Twenties and After Hours 4ks. I also snagged Godzilla X Kong 4k with a slip after not finding it anywhere else.
Nice pickups, Sue! Straw Dogs is good but definitely watch it on your own 😀. I loved Dogfight. I need to go ahead and get Girlfight based on Mel’s endorsement. To Die For 4K is a very nice edition. Enjoy those Criterions!
I'm very jealous that your store had Scanners, I wanted to pick that one up but unfortunately my store didn't have it. I was able to get Blood Simple and The Big Chill though, so it was still a win! 😊 Trainspotting is really good and Straw Dogs might not be Mama Bluray approved due to the sexual assault content.
