Yes, crit draw is impressive, but I find your positioning to be even more so. Knowing exactly where the Rathian's head is gonna be every single time, repositioning, and managing to land a fully charged crit draw is *chef's kiss*
@@toy5965 I've been playing since MH1 and I still can't figure out how to get this good. Then again, I'm not usually having to deal with charged attacks like this, I'm a s&s main.
@@MistressMajora in MH1 the monsters like rathalos and rathian have have a chain of attacks they follow. if you can memorize them it'd be a little easier to predict where the head will be next
Always landing a charged GS attack is my favorite feeling in Monster Hunter.. it's sometimes hard with the placement and timing, but the euphoria it causes when connects is second to none.. pure bliss
Ironically, the big dumb "hit with maximum force" stick is the weapon that requires the player really know the monster to do amazingly well with. You have to anticipate where the part of the monster will _be,_ not where it currently is - because chances are by the time you're done charging, it'll be somewhere else.
@@JanusHoW yes this. I have a buddy of mine who mains dual blades. And he tells me "idk how you play like that. I try great sword and I'm slow but you make it look so fast". In the words of the great tow- mater. "Ain't no need to watch where I'm going. Just need to know where I've been."
@@marvertjaysonneyra457 As someone who have it as one of the highest used weapon in my Guild Card and part of my Top 3 main weapons, they're right. I'm still nowhere the level of what's shown in the vid though. That sh*t's pretty awesome. 🤩
As much as I love TCS and shoulderbash, nothing beats the raw satisfaction of those Crit Draw swings. I was forced into using a Crit Draw build for Alatreon in Iceborne and it was the most satisfying hunt ever.
Same here with me. I've always been a crit draw GS main from the old world. But since World came out, I adapted and loved the new GS mechanics. With alatreon though... That fight was frustrating with teammates. I knew I couldn't depend on people and the new GS mechanics if I wanna break through his elemental damage checks so I resorted back into the hit and run crit draw style of GS, created a new build, watched many many videos on how to solo him and I FINALLY beat Alatreon eventually! It was THE most memorable and satisfying moment in monster hunter for me next to beating fatalis in World. I definitely know what you mean when you memorize his move sets and how to punish him in between his attacks while also I-frame rolling through them. It really felt symbolic for me looking back into old gen games haha
Fatalis, as well. They made it hard but not satisfying since all the hit boxes are shit. I ended up having to do the cone bait technique on a lot of weapons.
@@boynextdoor931 you can literally solo alatreon with a proper speartuna set Source: the only way I managed to farm the fucker Edit: I realize I said fatalis accidentally but I did that with GS too just not speartuna, alatreon was with speartuna
Man the turning mechanics were so satisfying to punish in these older games (posting this again because apparently some people had to come in and ruin it for everyone and honestly I just don't understand how this series can have so many elitists. Btw, love your content, been watching since your tempered ruiner nergigante speedrun like 2 years ago.)
Every popular game franchise has gatekeepers and Elitists! It’s highly annoying and extremely immature. I never understood why people are so concerned with how someone else plays video games. If I want to play Doom Eternal on the easiest difficulty I’m going to! If I want to grind for gear and Zenny in MH: GU, World and Rise, I will! I’m all for challenging and difficult games as well. I enjoyed the hell out of Horizon: Zero Dawn on the hardest difficulty.
As someone who started with World, I really miss the turn mechanics monsters had in the older games, it was so satisfying to get a lvl 3 charge or a valor attack at the exact right time
@@reallycantthinkofausername487I come from World, and yeah, positions looked way more important in the older titles. I get dopamine hits from seeing all of these fantastic head-snipes with hunting horn and Great sword.
i loved stacking Crit Draw and Punish Draw back in the day it may not proc KO as often as a hammer does, but damn its still fun to go ham on the monster when it does fall over
Holy moly!! Did you break Rathian's head in 1 hit? I just love those sweet sweet dunks! Your timing & positioning were on point! Omg!! The ending was amazing, too! GG, Aris!! 👊💪
I would rate the difficulty of doing this to Rathian to be like a 4 or 5 out of 10. If it was Zinogre or something ridiculous like devilJho, you would need much more practice.
Man, I just can't describe this feeling I had with 3rd gen. It's just nostalgic and longing. I remember this is the game that I played straight through in a month.
I really wish crit draw build are great again It really versatile play styles and answering many GS problem without too much finesse being able to do various counter and stuff to access the coveted TCS
It made me really mad that they nerfed crit draw to only 60% affinity. It wasn’t the strongest greatsword style in world so I’m not sure where that nerf came from. The only thing I can think of is because longsword’s sheathe stance applies crit draw. I really hope that going forward this change won’t stay, it really hurts to miss out on those crits. :(
@@Argnos2293 crit draw is still really good in rise, while it doesn't grant 100% affinity anymore it grants 60% for ~2.5 secs after the draw attack meaning you can easily get crits with the first 3 or so attacks of faster weapons, even on greatsword its still good, i run a critdraw surging strikes build myself and it still rocks in the damage and mobility aspect.
@@niklasmitfussl2639 You're thinking Black X Armor. It uses Nakarkos parts, but primarily the Dark Pieces and Dark Stones you got from mining the giant regenerating sword in Pokke Village. The Black X set, with all of its pieces, gave BlightRes +10, FastCharge +10, Crit Draw +10 and Readiness +10, giving you Blightproof (immune to elemental blights), Focus (faster charge time), Critical Draw, and Sheath Control - a skill that combines the effects of Punish Draw (deals KO/exhaust damage with draw attacks) and Quick Sheath.
What I find most impressive is those dung bomb snipes on the rhenopolos. Also, why the hell did I never think of that to get rid of those obnoxious small monsters that ruin a 1 on 1
It was a decent suprise when I heard that GS was a beginner friendly weapon in older games To a World player it was always the 'I like to suffer' kind a weapon
GS was begginer friendly only for hit and run playstyles, with charging left only for when the monster was down. Timing charges like video shows is definitely not beginner friendly.
3U GS gives me flashbacks to the time i learned charm sniping specifically to make the full G-Rank Jhen Mohran set work as a (non-optimized but otherwise fully functional) GS set. im so glad we got layered armor so i could overcome my aversion to mixed sets
I like how the environment in this game is still psp-tier polygon count, but the textures are super high res and the monster and hunter both are high poly.
The GS is powerful with this build for sure, but I feel like most of the work came from your positioning. Not just hitting the head every time, but also walking just outside the Rathian attacks and then immediately back in to attack was incredible.
There are hunts that the mo Ayer doesn’t let you breathe, there are hunts where it is a beautiful back and forth between Hunter and monster, and then there’s this where you feel a little bad for the monster
Against rathian specifically most people can do with with practice. Arguably the most predictable monster of old gen, rathian + diablos are common monsters to grind out when you're learning how to do proactive play woth slow weapons like gs and GU charge blade
MH3U, Diablos Set, Alatreon GS Quick Sheath Crit. Draw Focus Tremor Res Evade Distance (or Expert Swimmer) (talismans) I still have the console and I still loves to play it. My most successful Hunter career. Could slay alone even that Alatreon and Goldbeard Ceadeus, Ivory Lagiacrus. I truly love that game. And yeah, this skill is extreme. In World, Frostcraft and Crit Draw carried me through Master Rank. rs
There’s a certain fluidity to the animations that I didn’t expect from MH3, Not to far off from what I’ve seen from MH4, It’s got a certain charm to it I gotta say. 🙂👍
@@Oyi_14 Yeah I agree. But ya know what I mean yeah? Maybe it’s the frame rate playing tricks or something but it just looks really… Responsive maybe? It’s hard to put into words when I haven’t played it because I don’t know if that rings true but it looks like it would. 🙂
Recently, i started playing the great sword. A friend of mine was happy, since he mained the weapon for a really long time now, so he instantly told me about animation cancel. While running, attack and press block to skip the charging animation and instantly hit the monster with a charged attack. Well, he is not the best when it comes to explaining, so he was only able to show me how he does it ingame, but i was not able to replicate it even once, not only by chance. So i wondered if there is anyone out there who could give me a nice and easy to understand explanation for this?
@@Honor_of_Claymore i mean you can chain tackles to skip charge levels, but theres no way to insta charge the weapon. Outside of Strongarm counter in rise anyway
Everyone else in the comment section mentions it, and so will i: Your positioning is beyond perfect, i'm impressed with that level of mastery! Hats off to you!
The only game that doesn't have it is Rise, and since Velkhana is rumored to be coming we might just see crit draw greatsword come back. Although in a slightly awkward form due to the crit draw nerfs
such a great momories back then, now that im older, seeing their movement i noticed it was clunky back when i played it i didnt feel the same, specially with alatreon
Miss the crit draw builds. As well as how impactful the hit feels. As much as I like arise, all the weapons feel like they have no impact to me. Which is why it feels way more like a hack n slash game to me.
All the weapons in rise can be aggressive, defensive, evasive, counter, etc; they made it fun but don't really know what they're doing in terms of game design.
