Absolutely love this, can’t wait to see the next one. I learn so much from your videos and this is a perfect complement to watching you work on your own paintings. Thank you Michael and East Oaks for creating such awesome content!

Thank you all for this. I can't remember when I have enjoyed a video more. It can be very lonely when trying to teach yourself and the studio can feel very isolated and quiet. I really got a lot from this today. I watched it once and then watched it again as background while I was painting, it made my little studio feel a very different place. Lol I even found myself kind of joining in the convention, which sounds a little weird now I've written it down. I hope you do more of these hang out sessions. Oh and hello from a beautiful sunny spring morning here in England. Glenn

Wow knocking down the values in the vase made SUCH a huge difference!!! And also changing the background to a bit more darker and greyer colour, it really made the flowers pop! At the beginning I thought the vase was just ugly, looked cheap, was way too bright, didn't harmonise with the flowers well and there was no saving it without repainting the entire vase. But you managed to bring out the harmony with relatively subtle changes! It's really all about value huh

The slight rework of the background brought the painting to a professional level. Those purplish reddish colours in the underlayer are very nice. Subduing the vase really brought the flowers to focal point which already were very nice. Those touches of lighter and darkened tones to them also turned the work into something beautiful. Now the only thing bothering me is at the base of the vase. The flowers reflections look like a stain. Perhaps just subduing them a little; making them more subtle. Otherwise it is a beautiful piece. Michael, thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.

Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your hard-earned knowledge. I learn so much through youtube vids as well as longer ones you have available for purchase on EastOaksStudio website. I would love to hear you expand on ATMOSPHERE. I feel it's one of those things that is very difficult to understand how to paint but very obvious to see when when it's missing. Many thanks.

The Post man opened the door to the studio and dropped off the mail right as the construction was happening in front of the building. Then the birds outside were going crazy:(... thanks for tuning in though! Next time we will try to time it during a quieter time of day.

I was taught to never touch another artist's work. I believe critiquing means to point out to the artist what is working and what is not working in their work. The artist learns/grows by painting themselves. For an instructor to do the work for the artist is counter-productive and prolongs the artist's growth.

A before and after comparison at the end or even during would help since the camera view of lighting is not always correct. It would be easier to see what the difference is.

I have discovered these videos rather late- great to see them, and thank you for your generosity! I regret that some of the earlier comments below seem mean-spirited, and not appreciative of your time and effort.

I really enjoyed this video and will definitely watch more critiques. Loved watching you sweep your brush through the paints on your palette - brilliant. I am uploading funds to paypal and will be buying "flower painting insights" - thanks Michael
