It’s because the mortar locked onto the little prince but the miner took him out right before the mortar shot. The mortar then proceeds to lock onto a goblin that is also taken out by the miner. So the mortar had to relock another time onto the remaining gobs, who eventually get too close to the mortar to be in its range. Thus, it relocks again, for the final time, onto the rightside push.
