Oo this is a much anticipated video. I have contemplated doing this for about a year now, and finally pulled the trigger. This video mainly details the differences and similarities in both professions- CRNA and NP. This will likely be part 1 of a 2 or several part series talking about NPs and CRNAs. This video really gets to the nitty gritty about admissions, education, and practice issues. If you are a CRNA, COMMENT BELOW- I need to get in touch with you.
I MADE A MISTAKE AT 15:43- I MEANT TO SAY NURSE PRACTITIONER

I’m not in the medical field at all, but I’m always interested in learning what people in the medical field go thru to do what they do. I have family in the medical field and seeing what it took to get thru school and work in their chosen medical profession...... WOW! Thank you for what you do and for not giving up when it gets unbelievably tough. ❤️

New subscriber here. In my second semester of nursing school (first degree is collecting dust). Will be continuing to binge watch your videos as we see the progression of your journey to becoming a CRNA. I too have the end goal of being a CRNA.

Hey I, just graduated from a CRNA program in Baton Rouge. I had a 3.3 undergrad GPA so it is possible to get into school with a lower GPA. I think your references and the interview go along way in their decision to admit you. Also you are correct, by 2022 all CRNA program will have to be DNP because by 2025 you will have to have a DNP to sit for the board exam. Good luck in school, great video!

SRNA here, very well put. I get these question a lot, even from registered nurses. You highlight the vast differences between NPs and CRNAs as far as education and scope of practice. Glad to hear you’re making the switch to CRNA!

I thought I was going to be a CRNA, but for what I want out of my career I am leaning more towards ACNP. CRNAs are badasses.

I am highly interested in the CRNA role. I am in a Medical/Surgical ICU at a level 1 trauma center for approximately 1 year. I enjoy critical care and all it involves, such as titrating drips and sedation/paralytics. I think I would enjoy this role because of the role's hands-on nature, and it is almost like an extension of critical care. I am also considering becoming a PA for versatility and lateral mobility.
@DavidWarrenNP

Hey! Thanks for watching. Sounds like you have awesome experience for whatever career you want to expand in to! I think your raise good points about both professions. CRNA seems more hands on/extension of critical care etc. PA is definitely good with lateral mobility. Good choices either way.

This is an interesting informative video. I've been working for five years and am going back to school to become a nurse really soon. I see myself specializing eventually, so this is really helpful to see your perspective.

I just shadowed my first CRNA yesterday! It was great, but I was kinda sad to not be able to start my own clinic. It was my dream when I was going through the Psych NP program. But don’t tell my CRNA mentor-she is so great and she believes in me. I just needed to tell somebody lol. I am really excited about CRNA though. Will apply in the fall.

There are many crnas that own and run their own CRNA companies, providing CRNA-only anesthesia

Nurse anesthesiologists are the leading safe anesthesia care providers in the USA. I love what I do. Yes is very difficult, I graduated with 2700 clinical hrs and 1400 cases, although the requirements are less. On top of 40+ hrs of studying every week. Nowadays anyone can go to NP school, the profession is on the downfall, I know a lot of grear NPs but I also know some that cant even deacribe how aspirin works!! Not good. Anyhow.. CRNA school is a 3 yr fulltime commitment, its tough, but so worth it at the end.

I’ve always thought about becoming a CRNA, but no icu experience here. All my RN career was spent in the ED. So that’s why FNP was the route I decided on.

What are your thoughts on ER nurse practitioners vs ER Doctors? I graduate from my BSN nursing program in April and have been considering acute care gerontology nurse practitioner school with a year emergency medicine certification. I keep on hearing that they have similar or the same treatments and responsibilities.

Don't worry about the cost of the program. CRNAs make the most money out of all APRN specialties and, unlike NPs, the demand is high due to low supply.
