Thank you for the library mention! I work at the local library and helped form a sit n' stitch, Knit Wits & Happy Hookers (shortened to Knit Wits for advertising 😊). I love talking all things yarn! Happy to help place holds, print patterns and navigate our computers for our crafting database! Libby is also amazing!

Sooooo good, Toni! And thanks for mentioning the importance of respecting copyright, and the details therein, at the end. You are such a class act!

I knew some of these, but you included a bunch of resources I hadn't heard of before! One other sort of free option - Amazon will frequently give you credits for ebooks if you're willing to have your shipping take longer. I've used those to buy ebooks from new to me crochet designers and found some new favorites!

Thank you SO much for mentioning the local library!!! I am amazed how many people don't have a library card yet complain about being stagnant with crafts or recipes. Lots of love from the Pacific Northwest 🧡

Many years ago I was a Parapro in a High School Library and it was an excellent library. I loved it and used many of the craft and cookbooks as well as reading material. Since many libraries have added ebooks to their systems I have used that as well. There is so much offered at Libraries today than ever before. I sing the praises of the library systems and can't believe how many people don't take advantage of that! My local library even has knitting and crochet classes for those who wish to learn the craft. And it's all free. How great is that!
@AntisocialAuntie
@AntisocialAuntie Год назад
@@hokey-os3rx I love that they have classes! Our small library did a "come make with us" group where people brought any type of craft or art to work on. We had yarn people but also artists practicing sketching and watercolor and used the rest of us as life models. Then covid, some retired, etc. So we haven't met up recently
@hokey-os3rx
@hokey-os3rx Год назад
@@AntisocialAuntie I haven't been able to utilize ours since I am caring for my disabled mother. But I know how to knit and crochet.. I love that the library offers other classes and events as well. I hope to use them in the future. It's a good way for those who are retired or just don't get a chance to interact with other people often to be around others.
@AntisocialAuntie
@AntisocialAuntie Год назад
@@hokey-os3rx Does your library offer ebooks? We got my mom a tablet since she lives out of town and doesn't drive much in winter. Our library just started doing story times in person again so it's been slow getting craft groups going.
@hokey-os3rx
@hokey-os3rx Год назад
@@AntisocialAuntie Yes my library does. I use it a lot. I get audiobooks for my mother and ebooks for me on there. I got my library card just before the pandemic broke out and it was a lifesaver for me. I even purchased a card from the next county library so I had a huge selection last year. I haven't checked out crafting books though on the ebook library although I think there are some. I use my tablet when looking a magazines and craftbooks that have photos. I even bought a Kindle ereader for reading other books, so much easier on the eyes when reading for longer periods.

Local library is an amazing resource. Sometimes there's an interlibrary loan option, so if your library doesn't have a particular book, another library in a different city may have it, and you can still borrow it.

THANK YOU! ❤❤❤❤ I'm a biiiiiiig girl - for reference, I had to use approx 1.5 miles of yarn to make a cardigan that drapes properly. I have yet to find true-to-size patterns for 4XL-and-up gals, so when making myself a wearable I make it up as I go along. (Stitch, frog, breathe, repeat.) My goal is to find a tunic length sweater pattern where I could feel confident I won't have to frog 1,000s of stitches after realizing it just ain't gonna fit. I LOVE all makers, but I've seen so many patterns and YT tutes where they simply add one stitch or one multiple for every size up. That may work with socks or mittens, but not for anything that needs to envelop tatas or hips. 😉 I've got a feeling that I just watched a life-changing video, Toni!! 😊 I'm SOOO excited to start my quest with all these new resources!

I'm so happy you mentioned the library! I have so many unique (digital) crochet books in my list! From books based on certain authors' work (AUSTENtatious Crochet) to specific types of stitches (interweave, tunisian), to a book just about crochet borders, to crochet for self-care. I love loading these (and Crochet World magazine) on my Kindle because its screen doesn't time out as fast as my tablet or phone. And I can use the Kindle's mark-up features to keep track of my progress!

All great suggestions for free patterns. You gave me a couple of new ones to explore. You also gave me new valuable information. I purchased a pattern on Etsy for a wedding blanket and am currently crocheting that, but it gave me inspiration to create some of my own designs. Since I have yet to delve into that world of pattern making, you gave me valuable info on the copyright law. I love that! Thanks so much!

The first thing I did this morning was make my coffee. Then I came to the laptop and searched free crochet patterns on youtube. Now, I am really grouchy when I wake up and I must say you are definitely Sunshine Soul as your shirt states. I absolutely love your bubbly, happy personality! I think it only took 30 seconds of listening to your video to wipe away my grouchiness. I really want to thank you for that. I don't even know why I clicked your video because I knew of a ton of places to get free patterns. I can say that I did not know about Ribblr or We are Knitters. I will check them out. I liked your video and the information contained in it, but your personality was truly the gift. Thank you. Just one more thing. The free downloadable patterns need a home outside on one's laptop/pc hard drive mostly because what happens if your laptop/pc crashes? What about the space? Too much stuff slows it down. Not to mention it is so nice have it all in one place, right? I use a 64 gb flash drive for only crochet patterns and the Microsoft OneNotebook I keep them in. I have two sections in my onenotebook, free patterns and paid patterns and they are (OMG, this is so awesome...) alphabetized! {with the click of a button.} I also use the Wayback Machine to save patterns. Crochetpedia has free patterns and there's vintage crochet website. Tons of bloggers like you said.

GREAT VIDEO! I've been crocheting since 1973 and until the internet, we got new patterns by buying them at our local fabric store, library, magazines, friends, family, and neighbors. If you were lucky, you stumbled across a crochet or knitting group in your area. No one in my family did knitting or crocheting and none of my friends did either! I found most of my patterns in magazines such as Family Circle, Woman's Day,, etc... For the last 10-15 years, the internet makes it seem like Christmas for patterns every day!
