You are the best crochet teacher ever Sarah-Jayne. Not tried this yarn yet. It looks lovely to work with. Been following you on here since my mum sadly passed in 2015. Keep up the amazing work you do. Don’t understand why you have a thumbs down on your videos x
I love all your tutorials! You taught me how to crochet. I always refer people to your channel for tutorials. This was excellent. I cannot follow patterns and get overwhelmed. I am very much a visual learner. I hope you will make more tutorials with written instructions to follow along.
Hai Bella, I'm Widi from Indonesia. I've been following your tutorial crochet since 4 years ago, and I really like the way you do your presentation. If you read this, I'm thankful that you exist on youtube, and if you don't mind, I want some insight for more crochet cardigan tutorial. Thank you xoxo
This is amazing because I love it because my brother's daughter is using her left hand and i teach her crochet You inspire me in my channel really Thank you😘😘
Fabulous for those cooler days in the office. Now to decide what yarn to use. 😁 I might actually learn to follow written patterns now with this clever tutorial. Thank you.
This is the first pattern / I have followed since I taught myself to crochet and it was so easy that it has given me the confidence to try something else. Thank you Bella Coco
Thank you so much!! I have such a hard time reading patterns and strongly prefer videos, otherwise I find I often have to have help in terms of someone else reading it and then showing me how it works. My brain fog from fibro/depression etc makes focusing on written patterns too difficult in most cases. I've been wanting to make something like this and have had such a hard time finding videos I can follow and this is perfect. I've never made clothes before so while I was hoping for a more intricate looking option such as a pineapple stitch or something, this looks like a perfect starting point. ♡
Thank you so much Bella. For me it is a little harder...well a LOT harder to read instructions on how to do most any stitches. You are well....I don't know how to put it,I'm going to say more explicit on how you say everything.I watch a lot of crochet videos like I said before it is harder for me to understand how to do something from a book. Its because all the other You tubers I watch aren't explicit enough for me.And I have waaaay too much yarn so I think this will be a good way for me to use my yarn.Thank you so much again.Good luck with your You tube channel.Love you and have a nice day.
Just about to finish making this! It's been a fab project during lockdown. Thanks for your amazing videos you make it so clear and easy to understand xx
Many years ago my mum told me when at the start of a round you slip stitch to move in order to leave a bit more space slip stitch 2 you then have a bit more room when you need to do the last stitches of the round x
Thank you for this tutorial, I downloaded the pattern and I'm not too sure how to read them yet and I really wanted to try and make this. Can't wait to get started!
Thank you for the tutorial it has helped me a bit with understanding written pattern as I really struggle with reading them , also the colour matching when I realised you were using the red as the edging I thought oh don’t think that will be nice but it’s gorgeous another learning curve for matching colours for me as I’m terrible at coordinating 🤦🏻♀️ looking forward to more of these types of tutorials 💞
Awesome, just made the headband, with a green, blue and cream variegated yarn, I'm going to do my sister one, may have to add another 7 stitches as she's got a big head😂
Hi, I’m currently giving this a go - how many rows did you do for each square? I don’t tend to measure my squares accurately and just go by the number of rows i need to do 😅
Lovely tutorial Sarah-Jayne! I wasn’t able to access the pattern through your link. It went to the Love Crochet site and said “Oops we cant find what you’re looking for. However, I was able to find it on the Yarnspirations website. Another thing I noticed is the pattern says to use a Size K (10 1/2) 6 mm crochet hook. A 6 mm crochet hook in US terms is a J hook, not a K. Yarnspirations usually never makes that kind of an error. Or maybe I’m missing something. So I am with you. I’d definitely do a gauge swatch. Thanks for sharing!
My Client she is 95 and shemake these all the time her a little different she call them a shrug.but come out so gd. I like your too so cute I’m going to try and make one 🤗🤗
I was wondering if it were to recreate this with a chunky yarn that takes a 9mm hook, I have a little under 230 yards do you think I have enough? thank you for your videos you encouraged me to pick up a new hobby without being afraid 💛💛
Thank you, I'm so happy to hear my videos have helped you 🙂 With this pattern it's important to meet the tension gauge or you might find that your finished garment doesn't fit correctly; so you might find with a 9mm hook that it would end up too large. One option would be to make a smaller size, however I can't guarantee the result. I do think you will need more yarn though: the pattern states that for size small/medium, you need 8 braids of yarn at 127 yards each. Hope this helps 🙂
The cocoon would work out quite a bit smaller if you used DK weight yarn, which is a lot thinner than the recommended chunky weight. You could try making a bigger size but I wouldn’t be able to guarantee that it would fit 😊
How many rounds did it take you to make one color square (19.5")? One set of directions says I need 8 braids of yarn, the other says 10. I'm hoping 8 is enough.
Hi Joanna It sounds like your squares just need blocking, and it’s really common to need to do this 😊 You can simply use pins to stretch the squares into shape, and then for acrylic yarn use an iron held a few inches away to very carefully blast steam which will set the squares into shape. If you have used cotton or wool yarn you can just dampen the squares before you pin them and let them dry naturally.
I would take a look at the meterage/yardage of the yarn you want to use compared to the recommended yarn instead of just going by the yarn weight 😊 Provided this matches you should be ok.
How about trying it with Caron Simply soft instead? You could just work to the sizing suggested. It's a bit thinner but I think it would still work up lovely bit.ly/caronsimplysoft x
Please can you tell me how many balls of the caron simply soft I would need to make the size that needs 8 skeins of the caron Pantone as its very expensive to use the original yarn? Thank you 😘
Hello! Can anyone please say which kinda material (yarn) is better for this one. Coz those brands you people are using aren't available in india most of the time.. It'll be helpful if you share the material. TIA. 😊❤️
I would love to make this for my 3yr old niece, but have no idea what size to make the squares. Can you advise how I might work out the sizing? Thank you 🙂
I’m afraid this pattern doesn’t give instructions for children’s sizes, but I think you would be able to do it if you made the motif as normal only much smaller. Remember you will join four of the squares together - it would help if you could measure it against your niece as you were making it 😊
Wonderful tutorial and so easy to follow youl! When do you make a video wearing it to see how it looks like!! Thanks a lot for your wonderful tutorials.
Do you think it would be possible to do this using a a 10ply (British Medium) cotton yarn? I have some beautiful 10ply cotton yarn that I want to make into a cardigan for a friend but I'm struggling to find a video that uses it!
Yes I think that should work fine - 10 ply is usually an Australian term and is equivalent to UK aran weight. Just make sure you do a gauge swatch before you start; you can find the details on my blog here: bellacococrochet.com/crochet-cocoon/ 😊
hello you do beautiful work and make wonderful videos that are very helpful and easy for beginners could you please make a video on how to make the kanata kercheif top
Depending which size you are making, each square should measure 49.5cm to 54.5cm. You can find the link to my blog post here which has a link to the written pattern here: ecs.page.link/wXES3 🙂
I just started a project with this yarn the other day, and I’m actually disappointed in it. The fibers come apart while working, which makes it hard to crochet with. I’d recommend testing one for yourself before committing to a big project! I do really like this cocoon sweater though. I might add ribbing to a similar one I made a year ago. Thanks for the idea!
Hi Charlotte, you can download the written pattern through this link: ecs.page.link/xh1cs which has more info. It should measure approximately 52 centimetres 🙂
Trying to find the pattern to download and none of the links here or in your blog are working but I figured out why. For some reason they're going to the LoveCrochet site and not Yarnspirations.
Tina Hairston the links are correct in going through to LoveCrochet as you can also get from there. If you are in the US, they are available at yarnspirations.
Has any one else had problems printing this pattern? I can download but no matter what I try I cannot print it. It keeps saying my printer has an error, but this is not the case. Help from anyone would be appreciated. My printer is working just fine.
Hello Bella! In the tutorial & Love Crafts it says 8 braids but in you downloadable US pdf pattern it says 10 braids... Which one is the correct one? Thanks, Shaima
@@bellacococrochet Thanks so much for replying. Yes I know but I meant the small size everywhere it says 8 but in the US pattern PDF link it's 10.. I thought maybe I'd bring this to your attention, maybe a typing error. Thanks, Shaima
I'm not sure what links you are referring to but this link will take you to the blog post - blog.bellacococrochet.com/crochet-cocoon/ - it does look like Yarnspirations have removed the page for US which we were not aware of, but the written pattern on the blog does give you both the UK and US terms :)
Yess it wasn’t allowing me to see the link idk why. But the next day I tried again and it went through. One question I have is for the amount of yarn needed. For example you used 8. Is that 8 of each color. Or 8 total?
Yes, if you go to yarnspirations.com and find the pattern, they will ask you the size you want then it will automatically put the number if packs you need in the supply list.
