Pattern
*** Notes - Always turn your work over at the end of each round of the centre circle, so that you're always working into the back of the previous round.
First flower
Ch 4, ss to join in a circle
Round 1 - ch 1, dc x 10 around the circle, ss join to top of 1st st (ch counts as 1st st, total 11 st)
Turn.
Round 2 - ch 1 (1st st) increase every 2nd (2 x dc in same hole) ss join to top of 1st st.
(if you wish to make your flower petals a different colour to the centre, change colour now)
Turn.
Round 3 - ch 2, miss 1 hole and ss join to next hole, rpt around to make 8 x loops (last ss to where
1st ch came from)
Round 4 - ss onto next loop to join onto it, ch 1, tr 1, dtr 1, tr 1, dc 1
Rpt from * to * to make 8 x petals around (last ss back into 1st loop to join)
Break off yarn and pull through to fasten off.
Second flower (and all other flowers in this row)
Rpt the first part of the pattern for the first flower until you've made the first four petals.
During making the 5th petal you will attach the tip of this petal to the tip of a petal from the first
flower you made (do make sure the flower you're attaching to is facing the same way up as the
flower your attaching) attach after doing the dtr with a ss joining (to the top of the dtr of the petal
your joining to) then finish the rest of this petal as normal.
Rpt this step while making the 6th petal (joining this one to the petal next to the one you joined the
5th petal to)
Now you have two petals joined to two petals and the two flowers are joined together.
Carry on making the last two petals of this flower as normal.
To make the rest of the flowers in this row follow the instructions for the second flower. This will
make the length of the shawl/blanket/project, so make as many as you would like the length to be.
Now you have a strip of flowers joined together, your first row of flowers is completed, and you are
ready to add more strips of flowers onto to the side of this row, to start creating your width.
Second row of flowers
First flower (& first flower of each new row)
Rpt the first part of the pattern for the first flower until you've made the first two petals.
During making the 3rd and 4th petals, attach onto the two side petals on the left of the very first
flower you made in the previous row, in the same way as you attached petals on the last row (if you
look at each flower you will see there are 8 petals - two at the top, two at each side, and two at the
bottom, so you can see how the petals lay next to each other so you attach them to each correct
petal) Carry on with the last four petals of this flower as normal.
The rest of the flowers in each row (apart from the 1st one in a new row) are all made in the same way now - Make your first two petals, attach the side petals as you did for the previous flower, now
attach the top petals as you did in the first row of flowers, so your petals are attached at the sides
and tops as you go along.
Make as many rows as you'd like to for your width, attaching them to the left of the previous rows.
Adding the connecting stars -
You can finish your whole blanket size and add them at the end, or you can do a row of stars as each row of flowers is completed as you go along if you prefer.
These stars are added in between the gaps where each set of four flowers are joined, each gap looks
like a square-ish shaped hole, you will be attaching the star with 8 links. Each of your 1 ch links
will attach to the sides of the square hole, and your 2 ch links to the corners of the square hole as
follows.
ch 4, ss to join in a circle (centre circle)
*ch 1, ss to 'side' of square hole, attaching inbetween where the two petals are joined, ch 1, ss back through your centre circle.
ch 2, ss into 'the corner' of square hole, ch 2, ss back through your centre circle*
Rpt * to * around your centre circle until you have attached all 8 links.
break off the yarn and pull through, give it a wiggle to space the links out evenly around the circle.
When you've finished your blanket, weave in all your ends with a bodkin needle.
