Hi .. I just wanted to get back to you to tell you how wonderful my toilet seat lid cover came out using this pattern. My elongated seat lid had measured roughly 16 1/2 inches long by 16 inches wide ; I had trouble finding a cover to fit . I followed your pattern using one single colour through to Round 14 and then added 2 more rows of shells ( RD #7). and then used a 35 inch thin elastic and single crocheted it in the back of last row. I love it !! Thanks so much for this !! all the best to you from Canada !
Done with week 1! I'm loving these colors, even though my pink and red are not exactly the same. Still fantastic! Claire, this is a BRILLIANT project. Thank you so much for this CAL!
you are an incredible, patient, clear teacher. thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent. God bless your hands. I will do the rug with cotton yarn using double yarn. Thank you soon much, it will be a gift for my grandson's room.
Omg! I ABSOLUTLY love it. If you are making this into a rug and want it non slip use a product called super grip. It's awesome to put on slippers and rug backing so it doesn't slide all over your floor.
Thank you for getting back with me Clare. I listened to the tutorial again and found my mistake. I was only crocheting my increases in the big gaps. I must have paused the video before you said to increase in the "chain ones" too. I will use my "mistake" to make a beanie hat by frogging back to round 5. Practice makes progress lol. I hope this comment might help someone else with their crochet "bowl" rug. Hahaha < laughs at self> because there is no crying in crochet ; )
LOVE this CAL!!! Have been dying to do a round granny and completely thrilled that you chose to do it!! Finished one, working on another, have plans for another AND thinking about what colors I have in my stash to make one as my work Christmas gift. THANK YOU Clare!! YOU ROCK!!!!
To make the blanket bigger So your last increase round is ....round 36 and its is - shell into the next 5 spaces inc into the next You could try following the increases and go back to round 11 and - shell into the next 6 shells, increase into the next ..... Then follow the instruction from there....havnt tried it myself but I gave this advice to another lady and she managed to get it to 70 rounds :)
Hello! I brought a Tunisian (Afghan) Hook to do the Tunisian stitching if I wanted to make a blanket how would you go about the length and width using the hook?
Lovely RainbowAngel Hi, I am sorry but I do not do tunisian crochet so I am not really sure what length you would need. You could check youtube for tunisian videos
I'm up to the last row before the border. The last 3 rows was a repeat of row 7. I'd really love to make it much bigger. Can you help please Bobbi??? 😮
I appreciate your tutorial. I wasted time following other granny circles. You are a good educator! I’m scrapping mine. Odds &ends! I gave up on fb because lol make a 2one w nicer yarn! Thank you!
Granny clusters are chasing me in my sleep, lol, I just made a poncho with them using one of your videos even tho I added some different stitches, in; before that I made two granny cluster toilet lid covers; before that did your 17 square layout for an awesome handbag.... I might take a break for change and come back to this later, but I love this and need a rug, but need to buy an odd color of yarn that I don't have yet for my bedroom. I'm still following to watch for now :)
TY This looks so pretty. I have Redheart SS monet varigated yarn, multi color. I think I''l start with it then add then may add in the individual colors in this blend.
Thank you for this pattern it was just what i was looking for my girl's just changed their room theam to emoji and i was looking for ideas and now this will be their yellow rug i am just adding a face to it love it
This is a really great video to watch bobwilson123 I like this new C.A.L series you're doing. I just want to get my yarn and crochet hook out now and start working on the piece!
I've been looking for something round to make a table topper. Tried myself but could not get the increases to look right. Thank you for your generous teachings!
Beautiful pattern and you explain it perfect! I ran to store and got the colors I was missing but some where really ruff on my hands esp purple my favorite color.
yes some can be a bit rough. they will soften up once washed. i have a friend that actually sometimes works with nitrile or latex gloves when she has to use scratchy acrylic. she says the yarn doesn't catch bad and she can use the scratchy yarns until washed.
I made a modified version of this! I love how it worked out. The material I used ended up being significantly thicker than what you used. So I had to leave off several rounds, as mine had grown as large as I needed. I also slightly modified the second edging pattern you provided, as I wanted a dark edging to finish of my project.Your tips on blocking were so awesome, I've never made anything like this, so I learned a lot from you about this round pattern as well as blocking. Thanks so much! How can I send you or post a photo of my finished project?
Using Aunt Lydia's Heavy rug yarn earthy tones (have had in my stash for decades) 1st part done waiting on next instructions...Feeling like a goo goo cluster !!!
I love this round crochet rug. I think I will do it with chunky yarn as I want it a little heavier. Does the girl who worked it with chunky yarn run into any other tips or problems? Thanks.
That was fun! Now the horror of waiting a week... *swoon... What ever shall I do??? Maybe start another one with different yarn...? hmmm... (Thank you so much, I'm having a blast!)
I love it thank you so much for your tutorial I’m surely gonna make this I love it because you go step by step I’m a little slow on crocheting I would like to know if you have a tutorial on a star Afghan step by step till the end I seen all the others but they only go so far and then you have to finish it I need one with all the steps till the end like this one please do a tutorial for the star and thank you I just saved all the steps on this round one I’m gonna crocheting this one I think this is so pretty
Week - 1 - WIP completed...I am using an I (5.5mm) hook and I chose 5 colors for my Round Granny...Those colors are: 1. Bernat-Nautical/Ahoy, Creme de la Creme in 2. Aqua Jade, 3. Aqua, 4. Bright Orange and 5. White..The white will be for my edging...
Hi .. I would love to make a toilet lid cover using this granny style . I will experiment with this pattern and just finish the edges and add elastic to see if it might work ! thanks so much !
totally love this project-----I'm going to try it with crochet cotton and size 2 hook---doily ! :D ...could a person use 2 strands (different colors ) of yarn with a larger hook to give it a different look ?
+Virginia Clough yes you could double it up to use a larger hook. it may not make it look very different but it will give it a different size. if you do mix the colors they will look variegated throughout the entire project
Just love the colors....would love to do this in shades of blue #bestcolorever :) Going to make this with scrap yarn perhaps...have so much. And will add dots of hot glue (i have a low temp one!) so it doesn't go skidding..I am a little clutsy...took a good tumble on my bicycle on friday :( Thx again sweetie for inspiration!!! Hope the move is going well! Best luck!!
Love this. Is there a way to add yarn or ribbon so you can lay a baby on it with toys and then pick it up by the yarn or ribbon to gather up the toys only when not in use. I guess gather and go kind of thing. Hope I am not making this too confusing.
hi, yes i am sure you could do that. You would just need to weave it in and out of one of the last rounds or close to the last rounds. I wouldn't make whatever you use to gather it with too thin or it could potentially be a choking hazard for babies.
To make the blanket bigger So your last increase round is ....round 36 and its is - shell into the next 5 spaces inc into the next You could try following the increases and go back to round 11 and - shell into the next 6 shells, increase into the next ..... Then follow the instruction from there....haven't tried it myself but I gave this advice to many people and have had great feedback. One lady managed to get it to 70 rounds :)
I started with a 5mm hook. I feel like my tension is sloppy loose...but my last 2 rounds still want to curl upward. I even changed to a 5.5 mm after round 7 then used a 6.5mm on 9-10.....using #4 worsted weight yarn. Please tell....what should the diameter of the project be after this tutorial? TIA...
depending on how far you are in the blanket and how much it is curling up you may just need to crochet a bit looser. A slight curl with most likely just block out. if it it curling a lot then either your stitches are too tight or your hook is too small. it could also be the size of your yarn and the size of your hook as well together
JENNIFER Taylor To make the blanket bigger So your last increase round is ....round 36 and its is - shell into the next 5 spaces inc into the next You could try following the increases and go back to round 11 and - shell into the next 6 shells, increase into the next ..... Hello Virginia Yes here are the colours I used in the Red Heart Super Saver yarn Bight yellow Pumpkin (orange) Red - pretty sure it was hot red Shocking Pink Purple i can not remember and i can not find any labels Turqua (blue) Spring green
Hi lovely rug! Back with question again. Im making a rectangular rug using the cobble stitch my own pattern not as beautiful as yours but proud of it anyway. I'm using red heart super I notice a lot of rugs done in cotton but it's a bit expensive I use it for placement and table runners. Do I need to put scoot guard or nonslip on my rug? Thanks you are the only person that replies to me. Your work is beautiful. Cheers!
hi, thank you for your question. yes you can use a skid pad under it to keep it from moving if you like. if you are in the US, you can get worsted cotton for about the same price as red heart super saver at most yarn stores
Ok sounds good I'll try that thank you so much for helping and answering my questions. Your videos are very helpful and you go slow enough for the information to reach my brain. Yes i live in USA so the material i can get. It's night here so I'll go to store tomorrow. If snow stops that is
i have a friend in the US and she said that bernat cotton comes in 1 pound balls and the lily sugar and cream cotton comes in one pound cones. she said you can find them at Joann's, Michaels, Hobby Lobby and also on the Walmart website
What are the finished dimensions of this blanket? Or rug? I mean it looks good sized. Is it three or four feet across is it larger I'm not planning in any of the seven videos the full measurement when it's completed. I don't need the diameter I just need how much it is a across
I just completed round 8....well I must have done round 7 incorrectly because at the end of round 8 I have 4 shells and not enough do to the final increase and shell 2. When I slip stitch I will have a total of 6 shells. Please advise.I would sure hate to do this round over. Kellie
Round 7 or round 6 could be wrong I would check both rounds to see i they are ok I have not had this problem from anyone else and that makes me think that it is something you have done
I used just one strand DK and it looks good although will probably be used as an afghan instead of a rug. I think 2 strand DK is about the same as chunky. I'm with you regards Red Heart problem, coloured acrylic aran yarn is impossible to find in UK. Only brown, beige & boring colours available :((
I think Jennifer is correct about the chunky, but if you use the 2 strands of DK I would go with a 6mm hook (that's just me personally with my tension) remember the rules for this blanket/rug, if it curls to much with the shell in each space round, pull it out and go to the next increase round :) IF it starts to ruffle, add a round of shell in each space :)
Please can you tell me when you say red heart provided the yarn do they provide it free I want to start a group up and wonder if they would provide some free for me please let me know
Hello, Sorry I haven't done that before, I have heard people using fleecy fabric and flannel fabric as a blanket backing, but just not sure wheat they did after that :)
+bobwilson123 Hi actually I was think of more of a rug backing. So it wouldn't move around on the floor. Iv made a few yarn rugs and the things slide all over the place because there so light 😊😯 Iv have found a few liquids u can put in rugs but was afraid they would just go through the holes of the crochet and make hard places in the rug. By the way ur rug is beautiful.... I'm hoping on day to be able to start a nice large one like this! 😊
G'day Timothy Marshall-Nichols thank you for your comment, I am so sorry that it took me so long to reply. This time of the year is crazy busy. T answer your question, yes you can make the blanket bigger Your last increase round is ....round 36 and it is - shell into the next 5 spaces inc into the next. Follow the increases and go back to round 11 and - shell into the next 6 shells, increase into the next ..... Then follow the instruction from there....this is what others have tried and had great success with it. Good luck and happy crochet! You can share all of your Crochet with Clare projects here. Thank you so much for your detail reply. your tutorials are very good and nobody can't miss any stitch. I got this idea of mandala from the Ahilu arts, all about crochet. if you can do the samething, it will highly helpful. regards.. Chitra Boby
this is an adult-sized blanket but there are some notes on how to make it larger on the written pattern, www.crochetwithclare.com/round-granny-rugblanket.html
Basically a (round) granny style pattern. But I'm confused about the terms you are using. When you do the 3dc, you call that a shell. Most other shell patterns I've ever done the [3dc, ch1, 3dc] is considered a shell. I'm not sure what the 3dc alone is called. Maybe a half shell? Maybe this is just an American term difference. I don't know. Since I've been crocheting for over 40 years I know what you mean & the terms used don't really matter. I was just curious about it. I might be wrong... As usual, I am enjoying your video!! You are very talented, fun & clear. Happy that you decided to do a CAL with us! I know you will make it fun!! Thank you Clare...!
bobwilson123 Actually, thinking about it more last night, I think you are right... I was used to 4 or 5 dc to make a shell because the tops curve over, like a "shell". Now I'm not sure what the 3dc, ch1, 3dc is called. LOL! I guess with granny "squares" it's considered a 'corner shell'. Oh well, I've been wrong before; I remember that 1 day... ha ha ha! Just kidding. Still very happy with your videos & your work! Keep them coming! And as always, thank you so much for all the time & work you put into them! I love that you don't always take out the bloopers too! Thanks!
