The string is T-Shirt yarn, and it's usually worked with a 10 or 12 mm hook, in my country, we use millimetres, but I tried to look it up in US/UK terms. So a 10 mm hook is N/P-15. In other words, you need a huge crochet hook. For example, the brand Prym has 10 mm hook, and ReTwisst and YarnArthas T-Shirt yarn. Alternatively, you can use macrame cord yarn, for that, you can use a smaller hook, like 7 or 8 mm hook, but there are different thicknesses of macrame yarn, so always check the label/description what hook size you need to that.
Yeah really need to post pattern. I following each step and stopping RU-vid . Written pattern on screen with some other number printed over the top really irritating.
As far as I understood, this happened: She joined with a special slip stitch in round 3, that's taller, and therefore no chain 1 is needed to reach the proper height. In round 4 she slip stitched around, because the base was ready, and in order to make the sides, to be able to turn the work, a slip stitch round makes it nicer.
