In the previous video, I showed you could do invisible increase and I believe that you would also like to learn how to do invisible decrease. Therefore, this video is all about invisible decrease. Just like invisible increase, invisible decrease is among rarely-known crocheting tips. Let's see how it would take your crocheting skills to the next level!
English term (general): decrease
Abbreviation: dec
Vietnamese symbol: A
English term (specific): invisible decrease
If you stumble upon A or dec in the symbol chart or key chart, you should know that it represents a decrease. To decrease is to join 2 stitches into 1; in other words, you have a joint stitch. The main concern when decreasing is that the point of decrease should not receive much exposure and you must not give away that it is a crochet decrease.
As you may know, each stitch consists of 2 loops (front loop and back loop). We will first insert the hook into the front loop of the first stitch, then into the front loop of the second stitch. After that, bring the yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook. We could add to the sequence one or two single crochets to see the difference.
Advantages:
- Invisible decrease virtually addresses the issue of uneven surface once the work is done, leveling out the crochet decreases that might otherwise protrude.
- Decrease stitches share the same height as other stitches.
- Invisible decrease has proved extremely useful in crocheting amigurumi stuffed animals.
Materials:
- Turkey's Jeans YarnArt wool, color code 36
- Hook: 2.5mm (for crocheting stuffed animals)
