Southerner here also who only uses quick and instant grits. Lol... I'm looking forward to trying this crock pot recipe, it sounds yummy! Thanks so much for sharing!
Southerners put grits in refrigerator over night..cut it into pieces, dip in seasoned scrambled eggs and toast/fry like French toast in a frying pan with butter..one of my favorites!
PS...just remembered when Grandma fried grits first in butter then she fried ham and then fried green tomatoes in the ham grease pan....oh this brings back memories!
@@kelbac678 my mother would press grits into an iron skillet like the size of cornbread pan and put it in the refrigerator over nite and cut it into strip pieces ...then cut the strip pieces about half the size of cornbread square
A southerner here, we love our grits in Atlanta! In Spring, I always serve a Cheese Grits Soufflé with the Easter Ham and Shrimp and Grits is also a favorite in this area. Enjoy your yummy dinner, AG!
So a few thoughts here....I was just packaging grits for long term storage earlier today, the same ones you showed in your video. I consider myself a Southerner and I always do the 5 minute grits. I am planning cheesy grits and shrimp for dinner one day soon. My favorite way to eat grits is with spicy sausage, over easy eggs (from my own hens) and toast. Your videos are always interesting and not too long. Thank you AG!!!
FYI...i found instant packages of cheezy grits at walmart..20 packs for 2.39..tried them for the first time...I have since used this style like rice with main dishes as it takes on a hearty flavor of its own...from the South but never had cheezy grits...i thought the price was incredible for that many packages! Delicious!
Thank you, love to cook with my Crock Pot. Never tried grits, but you have inspired me to try them. I am not a picky eater and you make them easy to cook, not from the south so I will go with the 5 minute grits...God Bless all our cooking with nutritional food.
That is a nice quick dish for breakfast or lunch and it looks great too. I don't have any grits currently, but do have plenty of noodle dishes and just have to add meat, water, and cheese to it to make a meal.
A line from "My Cousin Vinny", "No self-respecting southerner would use instant grits". I'm a yankee transplant, never ate any grits until I met my wife, a deep southerner. Fried catfish and cheese grits go together like a horse and carriage. GRITS is an acronym for Girls Raised In The South.
I live in the south now but was raised in the Mid-West. Grits to me was always a breakfast food. So we would have eggs biscuits or pancakes with sausage and bacon.
if all you are gonna do with your grits is crock pot cookin you don't need the 5 min stuff fyi. second if you don't use so much water or just leave out the broth then your grits will be thicker and will accomplish two things. fill you up quicker and use less of your resources. and will have better tasting product really. and you can do this on the stove top just as easily especially if you are already cooking something else like meat or eggs or some such. have a great day ag
I eat grits as a meal if I have made cheese grits. Even plain grits with butter salt and pepper can be my supper. I only eat once a day and usually late at night.
Good question. I'm not sure about long-term because the corn has already been cracked and the oils released I'm sure it will last several years. I store whole corn but I have a mill grinder to grind into grits.
