Crockett arrives at the psychiatrist's office for intensive therapy, joking it's the same process as an interrogation of prisoners in Vietnam. He talks about how even after the therapy is over, he still has to live his life, which he isn't happy with, including his recent shooting of Santiago.
From Miami Vice Season 5 Episode 11 “Miami Squeeze”: Crockett recruits the young cop from the Line of Fire episode to assist in an investigation of a dandy British drug lord and his operation in Miami, which includes the son of an anti-drug legislator. Also, Sonny visits a shrink.

Even the first season episode, "Milk Run" foreshadowed the ruthless, senseless, violence and helplessness that will take its toll on any cop - even Crockett. The ending of "Milk Run" shows Crockett staring out into space and when Tubbs says, "let's go get the car", Sonny just robotically repeats, "...yeah, let's go get the car..."

This scene was shortened and never shown in this length in German TV. It explains the change of Sonny from the end of the episode "Forgive us our debts" and the follow-up "Deliver us from evil", when the criminal he released from prison shot his wife. Every episode in Germany has to be cut down to 42,5 Minutes because of the program scedule. The TV station had cut out all the scenes they thought it would be "too challenging" or "too disturbing" or "too explicit" for the audience. By the way, 30 years ago, 99% of the people in Germany wouldn´t have understood this scene even it had been shown. Miami Vice was ahead of its time, even in this sequence. And for all the conservative people who only love the first two seasons: It would have been totally boring to see 112 episodes that never changed the style or the characters. Life goes on and it changes every day. Otherwise there would be no evolution.

Great take pal! I also think the way you do, even though the first two seasons shine much better than the other 3, especially the forth and the fifth. And that is because they were darker, we got to see Crockett lose people he loved, being hurt, depressed and all kinds of bad things throughout this series, just like we also see Tubbs being heartbroken, especially in the episode where Valerie comes back in the 5 season, I felt so sorry for him, and also in Freefall. Yes, life is not great, and those final seasons are incredible in their dark way of showing the lives of Crockett and Tubbs, long live Miami Vice!

Watching this, I can't help but think of Johnson's scene (also as a burned out cop) in the psychiatrists office (also mandated by his bosses in the police force) in John Frankenheimer's Dead Bang, a movie Johnson made right around the time Miami Vice ended or was close to ending in 1989. I'm sure everyone has seen it, but for those few that haven't, it's a must see, as Johnson is terrific and the dark humor in it holds up, even after multiple views.
