because thrashing around and freaking out would likely trigger a pack mentality to swarm and feast upon the injured one, so it evolved out of them to freak out like we do. Many alligators lose limbs and go on to live a full life
This just shows how much these animals run on instinct. Anything that goes into their mouth be it their prey, their friend's limb or a tree branch, they'll just twist and swallow.

Not to worry, even thou it will take 3 to 4 years, he will regrow it... Crocs got the ability to regrow limbs several times and even his head if needed. Edit : after further investigation, I have to rectify my statment about crocs being able to regrow their heads several times , I was mistaken, they can only regrow their heads 5 times.
@@deontaywallaceescalade I've read baby or juvenile alligators can regrow some of their tail back. But I've never read or seen anything that they can grow any of their other limbs or head back. If this is true, could you please link where that info is posted?
