Kings and Generals historical animated documentary series on the history of the Early Modern Era and the English civil war continues. In our previous video, we covered how the English Civil War finally broke out after decades of buildup, ultimately leading to the conflict’s first major pitched battle at Edgehill, in October 1642 ( • Battle of Edgehill 164... ). Many spectators and participants alike hoped this clash would end the conflict, but they were tragically mistaken, for the flawed generalship and heavy losses among King Charles I’s royalist army would lead to a deadlock that trapped the British Isles in bitter civil war for almost another two decades. Charles’ march on London and the campaign of 1643, culminated at the First Battle of Newbury ( • Battle of Newbury 1643... ). In the aftermath, the war continued both in England and Scotland, leading go the climactic battle of Marston Moor in 1644 ( • Rise of Cromwell - Mar... ). This new episode will talk about the rise of the New Model Army and the decisive battle of Naseby which was fought in 1645. In this series we will cover the main battles of the civil war between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians, including Edgehill, Newsbury, Marston Moor, Naseby, Preston, Drogheda, Dunbar and others.

Please do some more research before you accept sponsorship. Those 1-meter plots are known as souvenir plots and you have no legal ownership of the land and the company regularly "sells" the same plot to multiple people in addition to this under the Land Registry (Scotland) Act 2012 the sale and registration of those plots are illegal in addition to this since 1538 all titles in Scotland have been regulated by what is known as the Court of Lord Lyon and they do not recognize these titles. If this wasn't bad enough there is absolutely no evidence of any conservation work being carried out by the groups involved. The Illegal use and creation of fraudulent titles in Scotland and the actions of multiple companies (all from outside Scotland) taking advantage of innocent people are of great concern and cause a lot of offence

Another little fact: the soldiers of the New Model Army (largely the infantry) were the first true redcoats. Contrary to the myth that red was chosen so soldiers wouldn't see blood, it was chosen for a much simpler reason: it was the cheapest dye available.

There's a reason the British Army isn't called "The Royal Army", unlike the other branches of Britain's military such as The Royal Navy and Royal Air Force (RAF). That's because the modern British Army is descended from Parliamentarian's New Model Army which at the time of its creation did not acknowledge the authority of the king.
@fogwar
@fogwar Год назад
Moreover, the Bill of Rights in 1689, which carried over some of the principles of the civil wars, meant that only Parliament could sanction the continued existence of the army. Hence an Armed Forces Act needing to be passed every 5 years, otherwise a standing army would be illegal in Britain.

The really sad thing is after victory Cromwell took power ,constantly argued and disagreed with parliament, who hated his extremist views . He refused to share power , so he ruled like a king, he named his son to inherit his throne, he died believing he had created a new dynasty of rulers, that would continue with his son his sons son and so on . He had nothing whatsoever to do with democracy in this country or any others. It eventually happened in spite of him , not because of him As many wrongly believe.

Nasby, a battle where the superior professionalism, training and leadership of the numerically larger new model army trumped the battle harden experience of the smaller royalist army. In the decisive clash of the first civil war, the ensured the final defeat of the royalist cause.

Yes- & Charles & their cousins (Rupert & Maurice) were hardly much older - it never ceases to amaze me how young some of the participants of these wars could be...

I really like the video, however the painting that is shown when opening the video illustrate battle of Kircholm 1605 and not battle of Naseby. Please change this if u can:)

After this, will this series featured the execution of the King or it will skipped to Cromwell's conquest of Ireland?

I'd love a video on the execution of Charles I. The entire trial was such a farce.

It will feature it. The Rump Parliament was essentially a military coup, exceeding the mandate of the Parliament it purged, and by executing Charles I, made his son an acceptable alternative as king.
