An Ag aircraft nearly hits a truck!
We have a look at what really happened here. Is this a normal scenario, or a one-off.
Ag flying is an active and multifaceted environment. It involves more than just maneuvering an aircraft; it's a complex juggling act of technology, environmental analysis, and real-time decision-making. Pilots must navigate varying terrains, operate sophisticated machinery such as spray systems and GPS technology, and consistently adapt to unpredictable weather patterns. The role they play is crucial in supporting our global agricultural infrastructure, making ag flying a vibrant intersection of aviation, technology, and farming. The responsibilities and constant adaptability required make it a uniquely dynamic sector within the broader aviation industry.
That being said, we hold ourselves to a very high standard, one which we pride ourselves in. Ultimately, we all need to be in a constate state of wanting to learn, and learning from other events. Like this one.
Was it ideal? No. Could it have been carried out safer/better? Yes (the answer is probably always yes). Do we know the full parameters of what went on here? No. Because of this, it's unfair to comment to any degree of certainty what happened, what was right, wrong, or any thing else.
The ideal will be to learn something here, and if we ever find ourselves in a similar scenario, it may result in a different, and perhaps better, approach to the job.

Good on you Jimbo for being so diplomatic re this one. With no discussion with the pilot, no fair assumptions can be made.

Cheers Jimbo, that answers my question "how many hours you need for your ag ratings?" I've always wanted to fly a top dressing plane, I was a shepherd here in hawkes bay for 8 years and every place I worked on we got you guys out to spread super, it was real cool watching you fallas work up close. I remember at Patoka it was a frosty morning and watching him take off and seeing the vapor spiral off the prop shit it was neat lol. You must pull some g's in those turns? Keep up the good work bro!👍

4:08 There is a powerline on the other side. He probably stayed low to go under and misjudged the speed of the truck. Example of getting away with it today, but might not be so lucky a next time. Hope the pilot learns from this "near miss".

The fact that this was about 10 minutes from my house is crazy and I saw that same plane a day earlier

I personally do not believe it was that close. Camera angles can be very misleading at times.

I bet the truck was overspeeding by almost 90%. Like 55 on a 35 mph road.

Nice one Jimbo. There is plenty of aerial spraying up here on the Atherton Tablelands. Main crop would be bananas but heaps of others also to name a few. Peanuts, avocados, potatoes and sweet potatoes

Hey Jimbo have you seen that accident of two aircraft colliding on landing north of Brisbane. The plane that was landing was a gliding tug. Look like an ex-ag aircraft

Jimbo , could this be one of those fake vids . The craft is surely close enough to the ground to cast a shadow . I see one of the truck but not the plane . Just saying

Look close to the slo-mo shadow is there but then again it won't disprove your theory, putting a shadow is easy even with free software:)

Yall should know he is an ex fighter pilot. He's VERY WELL rounded in his flight knowledge considering he's ALWAYS been one. He knows his limits so unless you know the man you just don't know.

It looks like he misjudged the truck speed and I guess that even the best training does not automatically guarantee that you don´t make such mistakes under a high workload and that one never should give anyone negative words for chosing a more carefull aproach like aborting that spray line before reaching the road.
