After the coldest, wettest spring ever came the drought where we only had an inch and a half of rain all summer. Slugs were rampant and ate most things that did manage to grow 🙄

Cheers Danny 🙂 Been a pig of a year, sodden winter, freezing spring and then a drought. We've got plenty of pudding now though 🙂 Mum is cussing about having to process stuff 😬 Ta for having a look 😊😊🌾🌾

Nice entertaining video Ziggy. There are now a heck of a lot of tomato based pasta sauces in the freezer, and it's strawberries and cream again today - with meringue for good behaviour 😊

Thanks for showing your harvest! I wish it had been better for you! Yesterday the Met. Office said it had been one of the coldest summers! And it didn’t seem to tie in with the ‘warm Spring’ we had, which as you said we are having difficulty remembering! So they did a ‘volt face’ & this time I agree with them. I think we were luckier with the rain though it has still been dry. ( I saw the Inglesham video - my iPad is out of charge so will have to recharge now) Ps Strangely I haven’t seen a slug in the garden this year - they have migrated to Kent!

Ta Diana 🙂 Had worse, one year I didn't enter the Melplash Show as it had been so bad. Wish I had as no one else had any decent veg to show, could have cleaned up on prize money 🙄 I think the met office made something up to support a certain agenda and then it backfired when we had the worst spring since 1963 🤔 I loved the Inglesham video, my son was born the year I was working on it 😬 Just caught a big bucket of slugs 😬 Ta for having a look 😊😊🌾🌾

I didn’t grow anything this year as I was away. But always fight with slugs.even introduced frogs into my garden but that hasn’t helped 😏.

hello we are new to your channel and we are new allotment holders we have had ours since july and still working to get the plot ready for growing next spring lots to do as the plot had nothing on it but an old compost bin its great watching other allotment vlogs as it gives us some new ideas for what we can aim for in the future :)

Welcome to the channel 🙂 I remember my first allotment, that was 40 odd years ago now, a lot of work. Get a bit of yours ready and concentrate on that before doing the rest. It's easy to loose enthusiasm if you try doing the whole lot at once 🙂

Wow that is amazing Ziggy - you guys are always busy 👏👏 I used Vaseline on my lime tree to stop the ants getting on them, worked really well. I know they must have a purpose but I really, really hate slugs & snails 🤬🤬

Welcome to the channel Heather 🙂 We planted 2 avenues of Lime trees but the Partridges pruned them all off 😬 A few survived but they are bushes now rather than trees. Was out slugging again in the night 😬

@@ziggyscoastandcountryside3773 I was watching a video that was made in Germany & OMGOODNESS I’ve never seen such huge slugs in my life & there were 100s on their lawn. It was repulsive 🤮

😢 the UK really did have a shite start with slugs they were absolutely relentless. Here (SW 🇨🇦) we had issues early on but then we got hit with a drought like summer so they retreated to await any rains. My tomatoes however aren’t happy about the heat which I thought they would have loved. I’ve sown spinach this week so I’m hoping to get some before the cold hits. Lovely update I hope you enjoy some sunny days, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

Hi Ali 🙂 You've had a bit of a struggle too then. Can get too hot for the tomatoes in the tunnel sometimes. Is that the Beet spinach or the smaller leaved one? Turning into a nice autumn now we've had a bit of rain. Thanks for having a look 😊😊🌾🌾

Rhubarb was a total loss for me as well, although no June drop for my small orchard, just a meagre crop. Vasaline is a cracking idea thanks. Meto are only following a certain political theme, and yes it was so cool and cloudy it was ridiculous.

I thought it might have been just Kent Mike. I see the met office have come up with "The Met Office has confirmed that 2024 has been the coldest summer in nearly a decade to the disappointment of sun-seekers. This year's notably harsh summer weather pattern plunged temperatures to lows not seen since 2015, and the public has expressed their disillusionment, labelling it an incredibly dismal season." That's blown their agenda 🙄 Welcome to the channel 😊😊🌾🌾

@@ziggyscoastandcountryside3773 its also been quite dry as well, and yet South Wales has had a wet summer, it just shows the variability in the UK climate.
