At least from what I can hear through the video, it does seem like they properly impedance matched the ceramic cartridge, so that goes a long way towards closing the gap versus what a magnetic cartridge would sound like through this system. Also it's nice to see the lighter tracking force and improved speed accuracy compared to the typical suitcase player-type mechanisms. The auto-scan FM radio is rather cheap and gimmicky, but now that many young people don't have any kind of radio in their home, it's better than nothing.

My first thought when I saw those tweeters and the ceramic cart was "Oh my God.. Ear shred". I was pleasantly surprised. Only thing I noticed were diminished highs, probably can't reproduce above 10 or 12k. That's a good system for $149.

Honestly, most modern 'terrestrial' radio is overrated anyway. Remarkably short play lists with frequent repetition of a handful of songs, deejays who just don't know when to shut up, and 10-minute blocks of ads - many of which are literally begging for more advertisers. I'd happily trade the tuner for a magnetic cartridge and a tone control. With the Bluetooth-in, I can stream my own playlists and satellite music services to this. The Aux-in would be great to connect an external CD or cassette player. And if 'radio' is still a requirement, most terrestrial stations also offer audio streams anyway.

Personally, other than the lack of a full radio tuner and a headphone jack, this isn’t a bad sounding unit at all! Thanks again for the review!!!

Techmoan has a video where he reviews a Klipsch The One II. It's got the same light wood and heather cloth as we see on the Aria. Seems like a good record player. Just a few bucks more and you could get a much better than the suitcase player. Have a good rest of the week.

If they really needed to cut costs, start with the radio, not the cartridge.
@mercurialmagictrees
@mercurialmagictrees 2 года назад
Absolutely. That would be a major improvement to have a better tone arm and cartridge like some other mediocre Crosley turntables have.
@jasonsadventures64

Get rid of the radio and bluetooth. Focus on the turntable. Better cart/tonearm and maybe better mechanism/full size turntable. Now we have a system.

Great job by Crosley in putting together this system. Walmart chose this unit as their all-in-one offering starting this holiday season. They’ve been selling it for around $119. Awesome review 🎉

Ceramic cartridge....no radio display.....no dustcover. The speakers look nice, but they don't even have covers. Style over substance, this isn't going to make you want to spend all night listening to music.

Doesn’t anyone realize that the same cheap Chinese mechanism that’s worth about $2 is part of that unit?! Peace.
@xaenon
@xaenon 2 года назад
Yes, but for most people, that mechanism does the job it's built to do. Yes, there are better turntables out there - no argument there. In fact, Crosley has built portables with a better mechanism - a full-size, 3-speed auto-return mechanism with a magnetic cartridge (it was called the Keepsake). I have such a beastie in my basement; it's definitely a step up from a Cruiser, and although it also features better speakers than the Cruiser, The people who feel a need for a better turntable probably aren't going to be looking at a product like this in the first place.

I'm going to slightly change the way you think of this unit by suggesting the following. The nickname for this one should be the 'Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich'. [Btw - The speakers remind me of sofa material and targets. Just saying!] Very unique looking and looks more expensive than it is! The sound wasn't bad either. The only two things you didn't test - was 1) that the stereo channels are round the right way and 2) the headphone/line out sound. Other than that a great review of a fairly nice unit!

Issue I have is....a entry level receiver in 75 was 900 in today's money...so of course a 100 dollar stereo isn't high end at all

Another thing they cut a corner on is... no clear or tinted plastic dust cover. Even the ill-fated Bass Jaxx Five Below piece of poor design had one.
@vwestlife
@vwestlife 2 года назад
Yeah, the lack of a dust cover is disappointing, but these days there are $100,000 turntables that don't come with a dust cover, either. You're supposed to have your maid keep the dust off!
@mercurialmagictrees
@mercurialmagictrees 2 года назад
I like the design of this stereo set up. It's seems to be decent quality and would satisfy most entry level vinyl listeners. I suppose the cartridge and stylus is somewhat disappointing since the stylus will have to be replaced more often and will not produce a smooth balanced sound most of the time. If it had the option of installing a better cartridge and stylus it would be a bit more useful for somewhat that wanted to introduce themselves to an a in one stereo system purchase and improve it gradually.

You could upgrade it with a Pfanstiehl P192D or Banpa BP2-ATC cartridge.

It's missing one important piece, which I would've needed badly in my former house in Cedar City--a dust cover, and a fully enclosing one at that. Here in my little apartment in West Jordan, I don't have quite the problem, but I would still prefer that it had a dust cover. However, function- and sound-wise, it's a relative bargain at $150. It would be a value anywhere from $130 to $170, methinks.

I agree with these two guys. I will connect this to my DIY tube amp connected to any of my 96dB plus speakers and time to bring out the salad, sushi and quiche with a good drink on an early Saturday afternoon merienda! A handshake 🤝 and warm greetings from my humble country 💞 the Philippines 🇵🇭! Yes and I will upgrade it to a better ceramic cartridge to play my collection of Direct to Disc records! Nice viewpoint guys!

@johnmarchington3146
@johnmarchington3146 2 года назад
Very good for the price, although I thought the low frequency end was a bit 'lumpy' and not really extended in any way..Maybe I'm being too fussy. You could have put an ear to one of the tweeters to hear if it was emitting sound OR, with just one channel in use, you could have put something over the tweeter and you would have noticed a loss of high frequencies. If the larger speaker was radiating everything there wouldn't have been any change to the sound.

Maybe I'm nuts, but it seems like wearing records out prematurely is damaging them.
@vwestlife
@vwestlife 2 года назад
It's "wearing records out prematurely" as in "maybe it'll only last for 500 plays instead of 1000 plays". Still many more times than anyone will actually play their records.

No, NO, *_NO!_* Those RCA jacks are NOT intended to be line outputs!! You're playing with fire if you connect them to a line-in of another component! Yes, it *CAN* be done, but it really, REALLY should NOT be done, and there are better ways to do it if it MUST be done. The reason they use RCA jacks is it is a simple way to connect the speakers to the main unit. A LOT of 'inexpensive' stereos of the past did this, too. It's done to make it easy for the average Joe Schmoe to hook up his new toy without really a need to understand what he is doing. I've had a couple of stereos that were set up this way - a 1980s Fisher, a 1970s LaFayette, and an early 1970s GE set, as well as my handy-dandy li'l Radio Shack SA155 mini-amp. It DOES sound pretty good for $150ish dollars.... so, I agree. Not bad at all.

Is the record aware of what is above the stylus? How does it know that it is going to be destroyed, How is it that a Magnetic with the same tracking force would not destroy the record?
@w7777777s
@w7777777s 2 года назад
@@GaryKeepItSimple The cause of record wear is the inability of a stylus to track it faithfully. If the stylus can track it faithfully with no audible distortion or break-up of the sound or actual groove skipping, the record might potentially wear out a little faster (surface noise buildup) after well over 100 plays, at a tracking force of 5 grams vs. 2.5 grams, but tracking with distortion at 1.5 grams will cause more audible distortion build up than faithfully tracking with no distortion at 3-4 grams. And there are more (or less) compliant ceramic AND magnetic cartridges.
@jdrecords
@jdrecords 2 года назад
@@GaryKeepItSimple I was a record dealer for 40 years and collections I bought with systems which had ceramic cartridges always had record that sound like the sea was in the background , as a ceramic cartridge breaks down it has small bits of glass break off making if like having sandpaper in the groove, ceramics is only melted glass in the first place a diamond stylus is completely different.
