I had one for three days, went back to the store since it was already broken. I didn't personally buy it. It seems like all of them use the very same turntable assembly ran by a casette player motor. I believe it's just a gadget aimed at average hipster teens.
MisterTalkingMachine I have to say: "I wish people would stop thinking all teens do not care about sound!". I do! Check out my channel to see how much I do! I think Crosley is crap though and don't think it is marketed toward teens at all!
Joshua's Recordings I actually do not think al teens do not care about sound. They, and most people nowadays, can be even quite demanding to listen to things like noisy records, or AM radio. The thing about the Crosleys, it that though they are very low end, they are expensive, and much people fall for their shiny looks and the old Crosley fame. If it wasn't for their overprizing, I wouldn't care about them, since as bad as they are, they are not a new thing. I have come across old players of the 80's that are actually built exactly like today's Crosleys, but they were cheap, popular brands like 'International'. I currently have a player that costed me one tenth of a Crosley price tag to build from parts, some of them I got for free or scavenged from TV's. It has big flaws, but it performs as good as the Crosley, and if it falls from the table (like it has done once or twice) you just pick it up and nothing happens to it. More than teens, it is obvious that it 's in general, aimed towards people who don't know that they are paying so much for. They may receive a broken device that performs nowhere near what they wanted, if it performs at all. Not always much a matter of sound, some people like me just like to place the darn piece of shellac on that bulky device and hear some crispy Glenn Miller even if the people around me cover their ears. Nice videos, mate, I think I actually have seen one or two of them before.
MisterTalkingMachine Yea, I have come across some Crosley units, they suck! I once repaired one for my Grandfather (it was less then a year old), the circuit boards had water damage on them! I remember he told me he bought a record player half off, then I saw it was a Crosley and was like "ohhh..." I agree Crosleys suck and are GPX boombox quality sold for a high price tag. Though I have to agree on one part, most people I know that are teens, do not give a hoot about sound. Some are perfectly fine listening to music on 1" apple speakers and junk quality earpods! That makes me sad! What have we come to!!
Joshua's Recordings I have to say though I do not like much those one inchers, they come to solve the same issue that pocket transistor radios did in the old days: Portability. Their perfomance can be similar as well, since both were subject to the same limitations. No big surprise that most people use consumer grade products (and because of that, those are called 'consumer grade', mind you). One inchers and regular earbuds fit in there most of the time. Many one inchers I have taken apart are nearly built the same way, no matter who manufactured them (either Apple or whatever nameless chinese company), and they perform as good as they can while being quite cheap. No problem there, you pay, and receive what you paid for. Now, the average Crosley amplifier is about the same of the one incher, and the speakers tend to be the same as well; but the real issue is that the mechanical part of the Crosley is very poor. The portable amplifier barey has any mechanism, (volume knob and that's it) and is built on a thick plastic case, not much to it. It is simple, and because of it, quite robust. They lack any record playing assembly made like plastic food plates.
The combination of choice of records with the scientifically chosen testing grounds is hilarious. I couldn't stop grinning throughout the video. Who would design a record player in a suitcase with a sigaret lighter adapter indeed :) I guess there must be people who love listening to records playing in their cars really badly, or people who carry electric sigaret lighters and a lead acid battery in their pockets :p
I'm into Hifi in a big way, I found this video so funny and agree this sort of gear does nothing but to damage records and yet some reasonable into quality audio gear doesn't cost that much more
This is towarded to teachers in their 40's wanting to reminisce their school days as they listen to their 60's children stories. Or maybe some old timer thinking he's buying some piece of craftsmanship like how stuff used to be back in the day. He sits in down in his bedroom and plays his old 45's. Being nostalgic and all, sees no difference in quality. I see it all the time
We've lost the battle, you can't get rid of these things. For one single unit that's destroyed, at least a thousand are produced and shipped worldwide under many different names and guises. And people buy them, and buy them, and.......We are like cows, the Chinese are clever.
Funniest video I've watched in a long time. The idea of a road test in a car, playing a John Birch or Disney record, I mean there's too much comedy there. An anti-skating feature would have made all the difference. BTW, the Birchers were right about the threat of Communism.
What is the John Birch Society...hahaha nice. Perfect for road testing. Ironically you seem to be road testing this in a Chrysler. Chrysler actually had record players in their cars in the 50's.
These crosley players are so crappy. The tonearm was jumping all over the record and it's called a crosley cruiser. I would never put my records on that thing in my house let alone in a car. Absolute trash.
i have a 1949 RCA 45ey1 tube unit and it sound why better then this and yes i have a 1960 fleetwood suite case type tubes and treble and bass all auto BSR UA8 that machine is a want to be those china junk will never come up to the old equipment just drop it and see it it survives the fall
I'm gonna have to stop by Professor Crosley's office after I finish class because I'm stuck on this arithmetic problem - every time I divide 15 by 12 i get 1.25 and the answer key says 0.5, hmmm must be doing something wrong . hahahaha
I think well-intended and uninformed people buy these for their aged relatives and friends. It's sad really. Very fun and entertaining video as always!
Even with her diminished hearing, my late elderly mother realized just from looking at them more closely in the shops, that they would never be worth the cost, so she spared herself that massive letdown.
My history teacher bought a similar unit to this. Its smaller, the speakers are on the front, and she bought it because it was teal. She brought it to class with a couple records and she used it for the first time. Its brand new. The sound quality is HORRIBLE!!! The speakers are so small and the (lack of) cabinet design renders the internal speakers useless...
bahaha! it's easy to count if you. BUMP! GKGKGKKFZTTT 10 little cannibals swinging from a tree BUMP! GKTTTT!! one tried to pet a big wild cat, and then there were 9!
i think the appeal is supposed to be that you can set it up almost anywhere, like when you're camping or going to a friends place. i was actually considering buying one until i did some research and found out about the terrible technical desighn and build quality, crosleys are a fucking shit on a decent idea.
What boggles the mind is that the millennial generation has been brainwashed into thinking these are the "hip" thing to buy. They think that "vinyls" played on these sound soooo much better than other formats. Oh Lord have we raised a generation of total suckers. Next thing you know, they will discover the wonder of radio.
Fear not, there are plenty of us who know what we're talking about. Though I'm a few years too old to be a millennial, I'm not far off - and it seems the more interest people have in the format the more they realise just how terrible these players are, but retain an interest in records none the less. I've gone shopping with friends in old flee markets and helped them put together really nice sounding hifi units using high quality vintage equipment, mostly for less than £150 a pop. To put that into perspective, if you went into HMV in the UK and wanted to purchase a turntable (though giving it the name turntable is probably landing it with more credit than it's due), you'd spend the same amount on a Crosley Cruiser with two terrible speakers bundled with it. Long story short, though these players are terrible - for those serious about music, they'll understand that these things are garbage and quickly find an alternative. The ones who aren't serious will use them till they're out of fashion, and then they'll all be off to the tip, where they belong.
Seen that Disney Addition and Subtraction record my whole life, but never bothered to pick one up before. That cannibal song is pure gold, and up on RU-vid.I know a record store dollar bin that has a copy,I'm going to go pick up.Waiting for a video with the Crosley in an off road vehicle, followed by an EOL.
I still have my copy of the same LP in my collection. The record is in excellent which I've got at a flea market since 2004. "shango" also has a beat up copy. As for the suitcase record player by Crosley, not the best modern record player in the world. Thanks to China. I should stick with vintage record player such as my GE Wildcat, but that was also a suitcase stereo record player with a changer. General Electric is better than Crosley.
This video just goes to show how cheap & flimsy these Crosley Chinese junk record players actually are. There's NO WAY I would ever play my beloved vinyls on that!
one little cannibal got disemboweled by a cougar. how many intestines does the cannibal have? two! one large intestine. one small intestine? what is one plus one? lets hear it kiddies! two
Likely 15 watts AC consumption but it was more important for you to know that its made in China more than anything else.. No need to tell you much of anything else
I wouldn't be surprised if there was actually a '70s car commercial that demonstrates the smooth, quiet ride by having someone drive around with a record player in the front seat lol... I've seen some commercials that pull off similar stunts... like one for the 1972 Ford LTD that has a violinist recording a song while the car drives around downtown San Francisco.
Lesson learned: Do not buy Crosley record players. Do NOT buy Cosley record players. Do NOT buy Crosley record players. DO NOT BUY CROSLEY RECORD PLAYERS-
12 volts @ .5a would be 6 watts by my math. I think they arrive at 15 watts using Crosley-Chinese math. A disc player for your car?? Automatic tune skipping. I agree that wow and flutter specification is state of the art. (or should I say state of the FART). Makes Sister Sledge sound like Sister SLUDGE.
I picked this same one up at Goodwill. I know Crosleys will eventually ruin records. Ive seen and heard everyone say that. So its a good thing Ive got some records that are beat up. The one i got had no sticker on the bottom and no where was the brand name printed but I kinda had a feeling it was a Crosley and seeing your video, now i know it is one lol
All these crappy turntables should of never been made. It's basically just ewaste. They sound cheap and often have no bass at all. At least in the 1980s some cheap turntables had bass, like that Quasar with the built in cassette deck and am fm radio vwestlife has.
A blistering 6W. Must be Cheap Chinese Math™. The first guy on the John Birch record sounded like Jonathan Winters. I fully expected to hear Maude Frickert.
It is Junk!!!....time to let it burn ❤️🔥!!!!...thanks for the radio videos....show more E O L videos.....also show reviews on multi band radios and Shortwave!!!
The Crosley "record player" excels at one thing: playing potentially unwanted LP's at 78 rpm and turning them into instant chipmunks records. :). Unfortunately, the anti-skip mechanism was overlooked by the *cough* engineers *cough* at Crosley. Good vid, keep them coming!
45s work better, my Numark pt01 on top of a small foam piece to make my seat level was able to play 45s in my Honda Civic with only the most egregious bumps and train tracks making it skip ,the geometry of a 45 makes it far less likely to skip about and the PT o1 is rigid so it is even less likely to skip with its bitty short tone arm but if you put a little bit of added weight on the head shell, you could probably get away with playing 45s with minimal skipping on that thing I have one of them, either just before or just after that model where it has a metal tonearm but literally nothing else is different, and on my mind the Auto Stop would kick in before the damn record was over half the time so annoying but it worked pretty great on my 78 especially my poorer condition 78 and I use it for that specifically so is not damaged my real turntable or wear out my 78 specific needle
That was funny as hell, any Crosley turntable is junk. I even considered at one time getting one of the little AT sound burger clones for listening to stuff at the thrift store but I actually tried using it and oh hell no they are junk, kill it, kill it with fire. Only good modern turntable is the AT120LP (barely) and the Numark TTX (too expensive and has stupid useless features) anyone who wants to get into vinyl is much better off to look for a Hitachi, or Sanyo, or Pioneer turntable from the late 70's to early 80's, as long as it's either a nice T4P or half inch mount those are decent turntables...please burn that crosley it doesn't deserve to live.
Typical Crosley Crapophone. You're better off paying for a refurbished vintage turntable, even the portable record players from back then were orders of magnitude better than this garbaggio.
lol even the soundesign i have has a tonearm that doesn't wiggle. the platter leans to the sude, but it can be fixed if i took the time. i mean how in the hell do these companies thing a wiggling tonearm is good!
I would waste my money on it crossley garbage I knew cynos dines back to China and having rebuilt right But I think they needed go back to school how to build record players Because they are junk I have a 1967 stereo but sounds better no signs do And that's on one channel
I know this is an old video but they’re making these shitty phonos with the victrola name and they’re garbage. As someone who has a vintage victor talking machine, I would buy one just to throw it off of a bridge
This Crosley record player is okay and that is a stretch of the word. I have heard of some people buying them and modifying them by changing out the crappy tone arm and cartridge. I wouldn't even do that since they are so poorly built. I would still be concerned the damn thing would ruin my records. The road test was hilarious. At low speeds and no bumps in the road the player did good. Turning either directing wow the player scratched the hell outta those records. Very interesting video.
