I love this guy, considering English is not his first language his understanding of the little things like "gubbins" and his ability to connect with UK culture is amazing. I love the fact he basically turns on its head what a lot of closeminded Brits think in that Germans have no sense of humour.

@@samjoshi1812 , I'm a German and I don't get what "intrinsic" means in reference to humor. And one thing is obvious in Germany: humor and jokes are regarded as a rather private matter and no part of an official or public business. That is misleading for foreigners coming to Germany: as a stranger no-one would start a conversation there with a joke ... this would be considered akward in some situations even inpolite. After some talk or a pint the situation might change.

If what you say about the German comedian doesn’t swear, I am sold. Having spent a lot of money on tickets to listen to Jack Dee and Paul Merton to discover that every alternative word was f***, I was rather fed up to think that half of the money I had paid was for that, and that wasn’t funny in any way, consequently I felt that I had been swindled.

Swearing can improve a joke. But like anything else, if you say F or C 100 times the 100th time it’s just a word. It’s a la w of diminishing returns, it’s like women who joke about their periods. The first one was funny, the rest not so much.

But most of the reference points are shared. In the song "Mir Kaufd Nix" from the hilariously irreverent Swabian band Schwoissfuass, we hear about the "Soifa, Dreck ond Botzlamba" that door to door salesmen peddle, but that is also a wider reference to the bullsh*r that politicians are peddling. This is surely something that the poor Brits suffering under Tory misrule can identify with...
