I have an Ativa MD Pro 1500 shredder which is about 10-12 years old. Recently I was having problems where the paper would shred so many inches and then it would stop and the lights on my power button would light up red and green. I would press the power button into reverse mode and the paper would back up a little and then I hit the power button, and it would shred a couple more inches and then stop again with the red and green lights lit up. I don't shred a lot of paper because most of my bills are paperless, but my wife is old school and prefers paper bills and bank statements. Well, she had built up a small mound of paper to be shredded and there was no way I could get that job done with the problems I was having. Ordinarily I would just trash the old machine and get a new one, but this thing still looks brand new. I decided to take the motor assembly apart and see if there was anything going on there. There was a significant amount of dust and debris in there, so I took the vacuum cleaner and canned air too it and got it looking pretty good. I put it back together and ran some paper through it and after a few sheets, I started having the problem again. While taking the motor assembly apart, I noticed that there is a sensor that points into the bucket where the shredded paper goes. That sensor detects a full bucket and will stop the shredder from working until you empty it. Well, that sensor was plugged in to the main circuit board on the motor so I unplugged it, put everything back together and my shredder works like a champ now. I filled 4 small bags of shredded paper and haven't had any problems since. I know that sensor gets dusty sometimes and you have to clean it but that didn't work for me. Disabling it did. I think the sensor went bad. Disabling it is not a safety issue. You just have to make sure you keep an eye on how much shredded paper is in the bucket. I don't know if all shredders are designed like mine but if you have a problem like I did, this may help you out and save you some money.
You whistling "O-Canada" @ 9:19 .... oh geez never mind you explained why you are LOL LOL...Clicky Clickies! Enjoy your shred session...shredding the hills this winter whilst you shred the junk mail!
Oh bother, just removing screws and putting them back in with a beer break. was hopeful for more info like how to get it to stop running on forward when there is no paper in the hopper. Oh well, I guess I need to check the diodes.
Thank you for your video. My Pen Gear keep running. After watching your video, I remember I took apart another shredder because I put too many papers in it.
Please post a video of you skydiving with your Skyboard surfing/shredding the air. That has to be why your name is Airborne Surfer? Or do you do aerials while surfing ocean waves like Jon Jon Florence or Kai Lenny?
Did you see Laverne & Shirley while you were at the brewery company ?? Did you ask them if you could try out the assembly line & Did Shirley give you the famous pepsi cola ??? LMAO,LMAO,LMAO!!!!
I have two of this NovaTech brand and model. Today, one of the paper shredders with-a-bin was NOT overloaded or misused, and suddenly caught fire internally and literally exploded near my face in a small ball of fire externally. Still trying to find out if there was ever a recall on this model.
Blown fuse, but didn’t work again till I had fully disassembled it and found the safety switch that only lets the shredder work when on the waist paper bin.
Dude, that was not a teardown, you didnt disassemble the gears which is the most severe and common problem with most brands (especially high capacity models). I wanted to know how to correctly press fit the shafts and bearings back after having replaced the broken plastic gear (common problem with the larger of the 12 sheet AmazonBasics models).
Thank-you sir. Was just about to tell this clown he click-baited us. Title should be- Shredder jammed- see how to remove paper jamming it. "TEAR DOWN"? Gimme a break
Because the unit is near end of life. Fix a problem and unit works, then something else fails. If it is a must have device, buy a new one. If it is only used occasionally simply put the paper in the garbage.
I actually maybe have the same paper shredder as you,I have the Novitech PS-026/B2 ,do you have the manual & the parts manual that came with it or if not, that's fine!!!?? I just wanted the manual to find out where you put the internal parts back together & yes!!!!!.........I should've taken a photo of the whole inside of it,Iam always taking things apart before forgetting how it's put together!!! Iam not sure how you can send me the parts manual if you do have it so,I don't know where else to look online though, please help!!!
HeyAirborne Surfer, I am the fairer sex. Can you fix my paper shredder? Seriously, of all the techno videos out there, yours is the best. I too have an oldie, a Fellowes, and I am loathe to chuck it, even though it leaks oil, but it has shut down completely, takes no power and of course does not reverse. It was working the last time I used it, I emptied the plastic bag and now it has completely died. All those screws you removed have me flummoxed. PS: I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I am sort of a patient person who struggled without the use of a garbage disposal for 4 1/2 months, trying to jiggle particles from a glass bowl that reached the incinerator. Eeeks. It feels great to hear that appliance hum again. Now the above. Thx. PPSS: Am familiar with Bradford, Ontario. Surprise, surprise. And think I share your Wal-Mart views.
Hey tic toc, I'm not sure how much help I can be from here. Have you checked with a multimeter to see that the motor assembly is getting power from the wall first? As for the leaking oil, I'm not entirely certain how much oil there would be in there. It doesn't have a reservoir like a car, but there would be grease on the gears. Perhaps a little sewing machine oil over the blades if they seem to be seized. Try those ideas and let me know how far you get!
I can't figure out how to email you, so Im sorry this question is not related to a shredder. However, I do have a shredder that I do need to repair. But I was wondering if you have a video on how to extend battery life or replace batteries on handheld vacuums. They always seem to run down in a year or two. Any thoughts.
I have been picking out paper stuck in the " teeth' for days now and I bent one of them and its right in the middle of the slot where the paper goes! Oh Damn!!! What should I do now?😰
@nuwavghost lets not judge, ok? I have never had this problem before with a shredder. One of the small prongs on the roller is out of place because I was too rough picking all the stuck paper out with tweezers...and a fork! Its right in the center of the opening and each side is moving, go figure.👀
@nuwavghost I too shredded paper that had return labels with a sticky substance on it.I figure with the middle of the paper feed now being dead, I'll just cut what Im shredding in half and shredd on either side of the broken prong or whatever you want to call it .👍👍
Yikes! I hate to say, but you've got maybe 3 options: 1) Try to bend the "teeth" back into shape, 2) Cut the deformed teeth with an angle grinder, 3) Bite the bullet and buy a new shredder ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5Ia-jhNWiVs.html
@@ColleenW59 Research shredders. Find out which brand jams the least and buy it. If you are shredding for security reasons the best option is to incinerate the documents and mix the ashes with water and pour into the sewer.
Working on a dismantled LIVE shredder, shorting the safety switches whilst DRINKING BEER!?? OH FFS!!!! Haven't you heard of HEALTH AND SAFETY mate!!? You should remove this video as it sets a very bad example!
If it is DC it is already connected to a transformer. If so when you take your shredder apart install a switch that reverses the polarity of the leads going to the motor. This will reverse the spin of the motor and it will unjam itself.
I came here because of the Shredder graphic and to see what you had to offer. Language and beer aren't an issue, and I'm in recovery. As far as I can see, you aren't necessarily attempting to instruct kids, so I guess your content rating is up to you, but my opinion is kids shouldn't be on YT without supervision anyway. Keep up the good work, and disregard the naysayers. Be well.
The real question is, Why are you shredding paper? The information on the paper is still intact. Police have caught criminals thousands of time by reassembling shredded documents. It's like crossword puzzles only harder. If you really must destroy all the information on a document burn it and mix the ashes with water and flush down the toilet. This will release gasses into the atmosphere but so do campfires, burning wood in a fireplace burning to clear brush from your property etc. If you shred paper you are using electricity which comes from your electrical utility that either uses nuclear power to create steam or burns coal, fuel or natural gas, all of which release other pollutants into the air. If you are creating tons of paper waste per year, switch to electronic documents and save money. Customers don't like it? Tell them if they must have paper documents you will provide a free printer with ink refills three times a year and you will STILL save money.
I stan your concern! But I will say Shredded paper can be reused as well, not using paper isn’t the only solution - as a lot of major companies sometimes require disclosures also be mailed in a paper form.
Cool shirt dude! Shout out from Toronto Ontario, go Raptors! Thanks for posting the video! This is something for me to keep in mind as I try to attempt my shredder repair.
Hi, I'm having trouble finding out how to repair the little black switch (Fellowes P35-C but likely that sort of stuff works the same way), as I inadvertently opened that (I didn't realise it was two separate parts without any sort of locking mechanism as I tried to simply remove it from its place and out of my way) and as there's a little spring in there I don't think I need to explain to you what happened to me. I can't however for the life of me find a source explaining to me how those tiny parts fit together - probably because I don't know what the thing is really called so I don't know precisely what to google for. Would you happen to know where I can find some explanation, or the correct search phrase? The closest to anything useful "Fellowes p35c disassembly" got me, after a few jumps, was your video... PS: what crude language? I didn't hear any swearing, or am I too European for that? :P
not any useful information... where does one get parts like gears for this thing anyone can take it apart take pictures as one goes and then out back together,, where does one get parts???
Walmart in Canada, just like most cunuckians, is just like the "south", they smile right through their teeth! and talk smack, as soon as you are not within ear-shot! LOL same people, different accents. bwahahhahahahaha
Hi Bob, I appreciate the feedback! I've been considering addressing that in future videos, so please check out the newest ones for better "language handling". Thanks!
You must be clueless about kids or live in a disney fantasy world!! Kids learn more foul language from their parents, family and at school then they will watching this video..
Great video bud..ignore the complaints about foul language from a few clueless hyprocrits out of 82 thousand views... Kids will learn far worse from their parents, family, friends and at school..
I could do without your attempt at comedy. Tear down and analyze and suggest a repair. Stopoed watching before finished. Don’t have time to waste watching you unscrew the base and hear about your beer
