Came over here after Jim Gordon (Working Horses With Jim) mentioned you. Liking what I'm seeing so far. For some reason, I like mules. I have a question about something though; In one of your past videos when you weren't using a cart, I noticed the singletree hitting the backs of the mules legs. Won't that possibly make the tendons sore? I don't know, that's why I'm asking. An interesting video, thank you.
Howdy! And thanks for stopping by. Yes slapping their legs will do that. Especially with steel single trees. Mine were wood and also we weren’t doing it much enough to matter. In most cases the tongs was enough to hold it off their legs. And the single trees just bounced making it looked like it was hitting them when in fact it wasn’t. And again, they’re wood. Totally different deal. Plus I made them walk slow enough not to matter. But yes, you don’t want to do that very much if any because it will sore them. Thanks for watching and welcome
That video is crammed full of info, thankyou. I'm buying a piece of woodland and most of the work will be tidying not harvesting so I really can't be doing with buying and maintaining machinery, or making a noise which would upset the neighbours. I've only got one 12 hand pony but can probably borrow a few more, obviously I need to be extra careful using other people's ponies. I'll start with small skids but want to know as much as possible 😊
I am glad ya enjoyed it and thanks for watching. Two things to careful about for sure is 1. Just don’t overload your horses. Make sure they can pull what you’re asking them easy enough especially in the beginning and 2. Be extra extra careful working in the woods. It’s very dangerous work and your animals need to be well broke and quiet natured. Take care and best of luck!
Great Job ! I wish I had the time to work with my mules everyday, doing something with them skidding, mowing or plowing. That's what it takes to make a great pair ! Great Job to the both of Y'all ! Where can a man buy some good skidding tongs and what's the average size tongs y'all use most of the time ?
I believe if i was you id try to get together with Mr Ferge as much as possible to glean his mind of every tip and trick and how to do stuff that he knows. He would be invaluable to have on a jod site. Thanks for these video's, im kinda binge wstching them now
Hey that's good that he showed you how to make work easier for you with his experience. I'm sure he enjoyed showing you some tricks. Thanks for sharing the video. The horses did great and so did your mules. They are a pretty pair. I know you are proud of them.

I have to laugh at myself for that mistake. I’ve done that more times than I care to mention and I am sorry. Names throw me off sometimes. But nonetheless, thank you ma’am for coming and visiting with us. And please come again. I always enjoy folks like yourself raised around this stuff.
Ain’t it? It works great as long as you take time to make sure things are setup right! It’s a arrow in the quiver for sure. Thanks for watching brother
