I’m a noob to cross stitching but in my supply bag I have: a needle threader, spare needle, beeswax, scissors, and what colors I’ll be using for that time.

I need someone to explain what the different cross stitch fabrics are (Aida, Even weave, Linen, etc.) and the differences in counts 14, 18, 28, 42, etc. What does 2 over 2 mean, and when do you stitch it? I'm a Newby.
@CaterpillarCrossStitch
@CaterpillarCrossStitch 5 месяцев назад
The count size (14,16,18) means the number of holes per inch. The higher the count, the smaller the holes and the smaller the finished size will be. For a beginner we would recommend starting with 14ct Aida. Evenweave and Linen are different types of fabric. This video will give you an explanation of how to work best with evenweave and linen and will explain 2 over 2 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z6-5Bl-VYG8.htmlfeature=shared I hope that helps

My project boxes are a bit bigger. Just got my daughters and granddaughters new small boxes. We are going to a Cross stitch convention soon. I carry "tools" in one box. Threads for each project in another. I also use a box for my traveling English Paper Piecing. Cross stitching just over sixty years. 😊

That is awesome! Which stitching convention are you going to?

I have 2 items in my box that you don't have a pair of tweezers and a nail file. Love your videos! Donia

@CaterpillarCrossStitch 5 месяцев назад
Interesting! What do you use the nail file for?
@SonovaStitch
@SonovaStitch 5 месяцев назад
I do often carry a pair of tweezers, yes! Just left it in my other box this time. Nail file is a pretty good idea because sometimes one of my nails gets a little snaggy bit and it can be really annoying when it hangs up on the floss (especially when working with rayon-based floss like the Satin or Neon light effects!

I never go anywhere without a “stab-it” by Dritz. It is a metal needle thick stick about three inches long that has a textured end on one side. After you’ve frogged, or when ever you have little bits of floss still poking through, you put the smooth side into the hole and pull through to the back at a steady pace and the textured end grabs the extra thread and pulls it through. Ta da! Like it was never there!

In addition to what you have I also keep bees wax to condition thread if needed
@SonovaStitch

I've actually never tried bees wax or any other thread conditioner. I should give it a shot!

I curry what you showed, plus a couple of "counting pins", a few tiny safety pins to fold and catch the fabric if I am not using a grime guard, a couple of thimbles just in case and two tiny screw drivers, a straight and a cross one to tighten my hoops when I don't use q-snaps 😊 Thanks for the nice video 🥰🧵🪡

Awaiting the stork scissor story….great idea with scissor and magnet…..I too use orts for my biscornus…..”cracked me up chopsticks”yet very logical….did I hear You say you cross stitch in conversations with others….big group….little group?…..I too listen more attentively….I did my Masters in Multiple Way to learn/to teach…..proven for some types of learners and cross-over learners….(many times often scorned as being disrespectful)….it must be explained respectfully

I was diagnosed with ADD just last month and suddenly pretty much my whole life makes sense! In any sort of learning environment having something I can do to keep my hands busy and my brain engaged helps me a lot. Same is true of social situations so having my stitch with me makes me a better conversationalist, but sometimes people are taken aback at first before I explain. It certainly does appear rude at first. Thanks for watching!
