I love seeing how other stitchers manage their projects and kits. Everyone is so different! Mine are kitted with wooden numbered tags and I have a list in my planner color coded with specific start dates etc.. Stuff unkitted are in a drawer until floss and fabric are added and then put into my project bag and numbered. I have 31 total, 6 are WIPS. I don’t do much on computer. Never got pattern keeper to work for me

This is very helpful. Would you be willing to share your sheet formats? Even screen shots would really help me to create these for myself--Please??

What are “whips”? I keep hearing this word but have no idea what it is or what it means.

WIP stands for Work in Progress. So when we say how many WIPs we have, we’re referring to how many projects we’ve started but haven’t finished yet. 😊

Happy to see how you plan and organize your stash. I like your excel sheet for the FCF SALs to show which SALs each WIP qualifies for...I think I'll have to try that.

I am so glad you did this video.. I was wondering how you were working on so many different projects. I am just now getting back into stitching and have been a 1 and done.. but I always peter out before the finish... SO I am going to try your rotation ideas. Where did you get the double sided floss storage container that fits them all in one container?
@StitchinMommy

Hi Karla! I got my double sided floss box on Amazon: amzn.to/2JVyVuF, but I think you might also be able to find them at big craft stores. They're usually marketed for use with sewing thread. :)

Thanks! Each time I get a new hair-brained idea for a rotation, I create a new spreadsheet tab - or two! :)

I also love adult coloring, but rarely get to anymore. I must have 30 coloring books and Prisma- color pencils. I also have favorites that I like to watch color...Chris Chang, SHirley XL, and Alena. An excellent planning and organization foundation. HAPPY STITCHING TODAY AND EVERYDAY!!

I rarely get to my coloring, either! Stitching has really taken over most of my free time. But, I'll get the coloring bug occasionally, and it's nice to have a few of my books close at hand. :) Thanks for watching! :)

Sarah Contento I got mine on Amazon - I think there’s a link in the description box of this video. You may also be able to find them at big craft stores. They’re called double sided thread organizers because they’re meant for sewing thread.

I really enjoyed this video. I like seeing how others keep track of their wips, etc. I also track in Excel. I start mine in 2016. It’s fun to look back. I love your videos,, thanks for making them for us🙂

You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, it'll be fun when I have more of a history to see of when I finished things. Our projects really reflect the different seasons in our lives, so it's like a walk down memory lane! :)

Wonderful! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. My cat gets really curious and interested in "helping" when I do things down on the floor, which she seems to think is "her" space. :) I have some fabric cutting to do today for a sewing project, which I usually do on the floor, so I expect to get some more feline "help" today! :)

I like your spreadsheet. I have several myself. I was catogrizing them in years but I think I like how you have a main spreadsheet and then you add new starts and move the finishes. I think I might do that as well. I think it will help me see everything I have better. Right now, I just highlight what is finished in green and have tips from 2017 and 2016 carried over into the 2018 spreadsheet. :) Thanks for the inspiration.

Fun! I love how everyone's mind works differently to come up with similar, but slightly different ways of organizing the same stuff. And it's fun to try each other's ideas, too! :)

Great video. I've been thinking about creating a spreadsheet for all of my WIPs and this just came up at the right time. I love the page where you have a little pic of each one so that they are easier to visualize all in one place. I've already done a page for my wips, pics and what I may work on in June to meet some goals I've set. Now to see if I can stick to it. Thanks for the inspiration and happy stitching.

Thanks for sharing your organization with us. I love seeing how everyone keeps track of their stash, WIPs and SALs. I've been thinking of making a spreadsheet but haven't been able to settle on how I want it organized/sorted. I really love your idea to have each WIP with its picture on one page, may borrow that one for my WIPs and charts I have kitted up. Happy stitching

That page is such a fun and simple way to keep track of everything! Just a quick, visual reminder of what you have going - sometimes that's all it takes to remember to work on something. :)

Thanks for making this video, Sarah. It came at a good time, because I just recently tried to organize my own stash onto a spreadsheet and I've now outgrown my little box of stitchy stuff. When it comes to books/mags, do you list the whole book, all the individual patterns, or just the patterns you're interested in? Do you remember where you bought your two-sided floss case? I just went to Joann's and Michaels a couple days ago to look for one, and they only had one for sewing machine bobbins. I held up some floss bobbins to the side and it looked like it was too small for those. Amazon and 123stitch were a bust as well. Now that I'm getting into multiple HAEDs and other BAP's I think I need to transition to a bobbin system and it would be nice not to have to use multiple cases.

I haven't gone through all my books and magazines yet, as far as recording what I have available to stitch. That process is really daunting!! I have listed on the "Kitted" tab of my spreadsheet things that are either completely kitted, or are a special stand-alone pattern, like a Mirabilia. I would like to go through the rest of the leaflets, books & magazines someday and catalog them further. I think I would list most of them by individual patterns, because some of them have quite the variety of genres available in the same book. I bought my double sided thread organizer on Amazon: amzn.to/2KuEDCH. It is marketed for sewing thread, and I actually already had one for my sewing thread before I realized you could fit a whole set of DMC in one of them. It's more of a tight fit than when using spools of thread. The bobbins will bend a little bit on the edge to get it to close. I use cardboard bobbins, and I think if you used plastic bobbins, they wouldn't be as forgiving to be able to get the lids closed. However, because of the convenience of having all the floss in one portable container, I'm willing to live with a couple bent bobbins. :)
@RhubarbPatchStudio
@RhubarbPatchStudio 6 лет назад
Yes, I agree that bent bobbins are worth the convenience. I only have the plastic ones, but someone posted a picture of how they fit when you lay them sideways and I think that will work for me if standing up doesn't. Thank you!!

THank you for taking the time to make and post this video. It was so fun to see how you do it and the processes you went through and your thoughts on organization. I loved the idea of the page with the pics of your wips at a glance. Very neat idea. I liked the way you organized your spreadsheets. I have noticed your tube idea for storage of your wips. I have taken that one and was just using old empty wrapping paper tubes, etc. I loved the very economical , but practical use you made of cardboard boxes and tubes. Loved that you shared it.

Thanks for making this video. Your spreadsheet is very similar to the X Stitch app but allows more detail and you could keep a record of beads and threads that you have on there too. Have you ever thought of trying to work from your electronic copy of the full coverage charts or are you set on the paper copies? Electronic copies save a lot of space which is why I forced myself to try them at first but I wouldn’t go back now. I like the spreadsheet with pictures of your projects - I might try that at some point. Happy stitching 😊
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 6 лет назад
I haven't tried working from electronic charts yet, because I'm too cheap to buy the app I would need to be able to mark my stitches. I'm very tempted though, especially on the piece I'm doing extreme cross country. What app do you use? Can you highlight a specific symbol to show up?
@ladybirdstitcher4200
@ladybirdstitcher4200 6 лет назад
I use GoodReader, but you can’t have it highlight a specific symbol, you’d need to do that yourself. I know that there’s another app that highlights a specific symbol for you, but I can’t remember what it’s called. Ezi something I think.
