Any fellow Subie owners here? M12x1.25 seems especially prone to this happening. There's got to be another solution other than aw, snap! There must be a way.

Subaru forester 2015 and this happened to me today while installing new tires at Pep Boys. I watched it happen. Wasn’t their fault at all.

Use a thread chaser tool sold at parts stores.

I did. They refused. Plus, once at the repair shop, they will have to pay the shop for what I just did under their roadside assistance coverage. Thanks for watching. Much appreciated.

A torque wrench isn't supposed to be used as a breaker bar. It messes up the accuracy of the torque wrench. Also your supposed to set the torque wrench when done with it back to 0 also not to mess the torque wrenches accuracy when torquing bolts. And it it has X4 x5 or more lug nuts on them you shouldn't leave one nut off of it. Let's say it has X4 lugs and you don't use one lug or stud cause it's broke off now you only have x3 lugs holding it in the vehicle and that's not safe at all! Same with x5 or more lug nuts.
@roadsideguy5902
@roadsideguy5902 2 года назад
If you got 4 you can loose one. If you got 5 same 6 same 8 same. All can go with one less. Is it safe? Not compared to all no. But does the person give a shit? No! They want to drive for whatever reason. I been doing this long enough to know for a fact it works. And that torque wrench you care so much about is broke. That's why I use it for a breaker bar. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I'm dealing with one right now today. The dealer tech rotated the tires (with aftermarket wheels) from the last oil change, when I returned for the next oil change and tire rotation today, they couldn't rotate the tires because one of the lugs won't turn. They try to blame it on the aftermarket wheels, but the history shows that one of their techs rotated the tires last so he must have cross threaded them. They asked me to take the car back again so they can take a look at it. I'm hoping they fix it without charging me. Crossing fingers.

Yeah, they are probably right. It probably isn't their fault. Old lug nuts can seize to the stud without being crossthreaded sometimes when customers don't replace them over the years because of the age of the lug nuts and the wera over the years. Custom wheels cause added stress to the lugs and studs and without using antiseaze on them they can become seized together. The old you touched it last blame is one made without weighing the facts and doing research. Ask google the right questions and read about it. You will find the dealership may not be to blame. I'm not saying crosstreading isn't possible. All I'm saying is it's more likely an old lug nut without antiseaze that is to blame. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@roadsideguy5902 I forgot to mention that the custom wheels and lugs are less than 2 years old and rotation have only been done twice.

First off that impact gun is a 1/2” right? You said 3/4” drive. Second, are you using 12 point sockets on 6 point lugs lol? 3rd, are you Using a torque wrench as a breaker bar? Lol

Yes lol first off I don't rehearse anything and yes sometimes people even I will misspeak. I have seen plenty of professional actors mess up worse. All i have said in this video and you gotta get caught up in a simple mistake. Are you a hater? Cause that's what haters do. Was wondering where is your RU-vid Channel? Second a 12-point end is a double-hexagon (sometimes called “double-hex”)-it has 12 points, or vertices, evenly spaced at 30 degree increments around a circle. This geometry will also fit on a 6-point fastener lol! And yes a torque wrench was used as a breaker bar. Did it break it? Can the customer get the wheel off? Did I do my job? Dude go somewhere! Lol

I went to a dealer service center today (Hyundai) and they told me the other place cross threaded my lug nuts so they didn't rotate the tires because I might have problems in getting the other place to fix them or pay for them if this place accidentally broke them when trying to rotate the tires. Now I guess I'm going to go back to the other place where I spent more than four hours waiting on a simple oil change. But I don't want to go there since I don't trust them to fix it right! Any advice?
@roadsideguy5902
@roadsideguy5902 Год назад
Old lug studs require thread lubricant. Anti seize. Most likely, that is the true cause. I get blamed all the time for cross threading lug nuts. Believe me, I don't. I know how to start threading a lug. But, without anti seize and old lugs that have come on and off a few hundred times. I catch the blame. My advice is don't blame the last shop. Get it fixed on your dime. Then keep anti seize on your lug studs. Thanks for watching.

Hi, thanks for your advice. The car is a new one that was purchased only a year or two ago. All service so far had been done at Hyundai. We went back to the dealership. They rotated the tires and told us there was no problem. Today I'm drove down the road and hear a quiet rhythmic click when turning or slowing down. I came out and saw one of the lugs sticking out so either they didn't tighten it, which I doubt because I probably would have seen it, or the stud is failing and they were either wrong or lied.

@@roadsideguy5902 Update: They changed out all 16 studs and replaced two lug nuts. Pretty happy. A little bit worried given everything else that happened here, but yeah. I'm going to spend some money on some low-cost tools for myself.

Using a torque wrench as a breaker bar is crazy
@roadsideguy5902
@roadsideguy5902 10 месяцев назад
A lot of people lose their mind over that. It's a broken harbor freight torque. It serves no purpose except for being a breaker bar. So now that you know everything what's so crazy about?

@BigNick10 Buying a bs torque wrench from Harbour Frieght and using it as a breaker bar is actually genius. Which is what I did and have done for many years. Tools are usually expensive, especially a strong breaker bar. I have had others before break, but never an old broken torque wrench, plus it has the ability to ratchet which a normal breaker bar doesn't. It comes in handy on deep rims on fith wheel trailers and motorhomes. Should I explain that in the video. Yes. Am I like the best RU-vidr and creator ever? No. Can I teach people what to expect when dealing with roadside issues? Yes. So don't get hung up on the stupid stuff. It was leverage that got the job done. Anyone watching can see that and use what they have handy. Even a gold plated torque wrench signed by Elvis Presley 😀
