29th of January I set sail across the feared North Sea. And to do it wintertime does not make it any better. I was about to find that out the hard way.
Join me on this first episode, across this brutal ocean as I planned to attend the incredible Up Helly Aa Vikingfestival!
Enjoy :)

I signed up the 2 year plan and installed Nord. However I had to turn it off as my applications would shutdown randomly? What the heck. Anyone else have any issues?

THE SOLARISKIT SOLAR COLLECTOR !!! ( it looks modular, like you could just get one ) ....it's designed for heating hot tubs, but could offer Supplemental solar heat for your yacht. they use a 12 Volt pump, in the application they are designed for also, but you would have to think of the heat load end for it, ( an anti-freeze fluid to air heat exchanger, with a thermostatic fan, or a less compact copper tube coil in a convection duct ) then it's just a small amount of 12V pump energy, keeping it warm while you are away.....your PV panel could run the pump.....a larger tube diameter will use less pump energy.
@RulgertGhostalker
@RulgertGhostalker Месяц назад
SolarisKit is based in Scotland, you could work with them prototyping a yacht heating system. I think better sized as Supplemental heating.... but it would not require any heating fuel.

Glad to see the new mast sliders working well for you! I worry about you Eric- that need for speed can sometimes result in over confidence an overestimation of one’s abilities. I learned that the hard way on a motorcycle when I very nearly killed myself going off a curve at high speed. Would have left 2 young children without a father. I still like fast boats and challenges but I stack the odds in my favor now rather than against me.

Well, Tessie seems in top shape with her rebuild and the ease in which you maneuvered her sails. That was some excellent footage of the festival, and you standing amidst all the festivities was an added visual bonus. I can’t speak for others, but the clip with the bagpipes and everyone’s enthusiasm in participation really gives me a feel for the Viking celebration, and the pride you feel in all of it. This is your gift to us, Erik, your excellence in story telling. In only so many words, you outlined your need to be included in this continuation of recognition for your heritage. No RU-vid channel tells stories better! The sea sickness has to be pretty tough, though, no? Instead of chocolate, maybe try ginger chews? They are supposed to calm your belly. I don’t know. I’ve never tried them nor had a reason to. Nice to see Silje helping you shove off, and making the very smart choice to stay behind. 😊❤ So, episode one out of the way. Will we be waiting another month for episode 2? Funny, I was under the impression you didn’t set out with the intention of returning in the same trip. Well, love is, in its own way, probably the most unpredictable and strongest force of nature. 🤗👍💯 For sure, it makes us do crazy things sometimes. Looking forward to this next ga -narly adventure, even if it is terrifying, Take care!

Great video of a great adventure Eric. I love your stuff and worth the trip for the Viking festival. It looks like a great night. I have a 36 foot mast head cutter rigged sloop similar to yours and I tend to get down to the staysail fairly early early say 20 knots and wrap the big genoa up nice and tight and put some extra ties on it in case the furling line breaks. The fact that your leeward cap shroud and lower lower were so slack is indicative of the load that the mast head genoa puts on the rig even when it is furled in a bit. Grest sail though and well done. 🐟
