Crowd work taken too far or no? To be honest, when the crowd is that small it's almost like it's a requirement to do some sort of riffing in order to be authentic. Unfortunately it can lead to crowd work. Crowd work is the number one bs thing in comedy.
Since comedians are required to burn their material to stay visible much more frequently and specials are no longer special, there is almost a guarantee of more and more crowd work that could cross the line. Here is a video of probably that.
