As a white man, I have had several encounters that mirror this encounter. I did nothing but try to deescalate the situations which ultimately ended in me sitting there ignoring the person as they yelled racial names at me. On one occasion I had a gun on me but I wanted both myself and the man go home at the end of the day. My gun is to defend the innocent first, myself second. Now, if my children were present, I would probably be in prison right now. Him moving toward the family as he gets more aggressive. It would have ended quickly. A lot of people chalk this up as a man being mentally ill, but it's pure hatred not a mental illness.

I used to be racist because this black guy and his sons were total dicks to me when I was a kid and they were at least in their preteens and a full grown ass man. My dad had to fight them because I was like six.

The color of our skin has little to nothing to do with who we are as ppl. The quicker we realize that skin color is not an identity the better off we are.. We are all connected through and through. The connection we have we each other is the most beautiful truth we have. I advise we hold tight to that.

He didn't know if that man would kill his whole family. He was very evil and the father felt his evil. He wanted to murder that family. If that man would have got up, He would have signed his wife and child's fate and ended up in prison for life.

I actually know this woman (the mother) because i used to work with her a few years back at a Kia dealership selling cars and I happen to know that she is an extremely good person with very strong morals. She works really hard and my impression of her was that of a caring but also very strong person. I love the way that she handled this and commend her for her ability to stay focused on her child and calm. I just wish that someone could have stepped up for them and I definitely understand why the father didn’t step in with there being multiple large black men standing around as he gets racially abused. Its just very upsetting to see someone that you know and respect being treated this way
