What a proud moment to compete such a difficult hike!! I have been awaiting seeing this adventure since you blogged about it during the trip. Special kudos for doing that hike in sketchers!!! Glad you made it back safe 👍🏼👍🏼
This is why I love cruising. You can go on crazy adventures in the port all while knowing you have a relaxing pool and amazing food waiting for you as soon as you return to the ship.
I guess every excursion can be a snorkeling excursion if you try hard enough. Side note, you can drink a long island iced tea through a snorkel if you try hard enough... :P
I knew you wouldnt say no when Dee asked so sweetly can i have one? What a good hubby. I bet she smiles every time she looks at it. Also you told her she couldn't take home a turtle when ya all was snorkeling but she got too from the trip after all ..lol
This was a shorter, more refreshing part of the tour, ha ha... we definitely crashed in the cabin for a few hours once we got back on the ship, hah!! :D
Middleham Falls is beautiful and as Dee said “totally worth it.” You both had quite a workout and a spin too! Awesome guide to find Jay a walking stick. Proud moment for both of you. Thanks so much for sharing.
Jay, i am SO TOTALLY Proud of uou!!! I know i couldnt do that last part either, if even prior hiking. So, I'm very impressed! The owner helping you was amazing! You GO!!! 🎉👏👏👏👌🥰🇺🇸
I must say it is a beautiful waterful, but watching i felt so sorry for you guys, because you were not prepared for this at all. You are two humble sweet people!
WOW that is absolutely beautiful. Pretty sure I would have made it down to the falls. I know for a FACT I would not have made it out. Geeezzz that looks treacherous. Glad neither of you were injured. So proud of both of you.
You guys really did an amazing job and you kept up that positive attitude throughout. Dominica looks beautiful .thanks for the travel tips and commentary . It's nice that you ended up going with a pretty small group too
You guys are my heroes. That hike is not something I can do. Thanks for showing us the beautiful sights I would otherwise not see. Congrats on Voice and steel pan.
Heyo! There's no point, really... other than just to add a little bit of visual interest, rather than eight or ten snippets in a row of the same band playing various songs. It started as a gag because we had bad sight lines in a particular venue and couldn't even see the band, but now it's done intentionally, ha ha!! :P
Yesssss Lovely Dominica,Land of many waterfalls/Rivers/. Welcome to the Nature Isle of the Caribbean (my Island)Lush Green an Unspoiled.Witukubuli Tall is Body. Yay 👏🏽👏🏽 You guys did it!!!!! I've been to Middleham several times and yes it's a Hike🏃♂️. One thing for sure after this hike No need to exercise for a week LOL 😂😂😂 Glad you all enjoyed and you're most welcome back anytime 👍🏼
Whew, we had quite the adventure but loved it! Tomorrow's video is a quick dip at Titou Gorge before we head back to the ship, ha ha... much more refreshing than the hike!! :P
Congrats! This is how I felt when we did Dunns River Falls Jamaica. We are "fluffy cruisers" but I wanted to go for so long. It was so totally worth it! Now we have a new destination to check out thanks to you guys. Great vlog!
Ah, we almost did Dunn's River, but we decided to skip that the last time around in Ocho Rios, ha ha... maybe someday. People say it's awesome, other than maybe the vendor village at the end that they usually make you walk through!! :P
Heck yeah! We got back to the cabin and crashed for a while, and definitely slept well after doing some squats in that short shower to get the mud off, ha ha... :P
Haaah, it really was! But Waitukubuli does offer a ton of "normal" excursions as well, ha ha... we just ended up with a challenge that day, but we're so glad we pulled it off!! :D
Wow!! I’m very very very proud of you both! I’m over 6 feet tall and 60% percent out of shape. Fluffy too. I know I couldn’t do it due to other stuff. But in the past I did. It’s soooooooo draining. Excellent job Jay!!!! Dee, you did a fantastic job too!
Wow! What a view! You two did awesome! I may be young but I don’t think I’m in the shape at the moment to go that far! Awesome job and great perseverance. I would’ve stuck with a beach or something but sometimes you’ve gotta get adventurous
Oh it was a very strong whiff, ha ha... I thought they were going to have to call in a helicopter and lift me out at some points, ha ha... but we did it!! :P
Definitely something I’ll be looking into! You guys did so awesome and I’m so proud of y’all! Also surprised there was no big GnR reference from Jay like the one time 😂 but congrats nonetheless! 👏🏼🏆
When the video ended I was like-Awe dang a cliff hanger! Can’t wait til the next one! Good job guys! No wonder you were able to maintain the weigh loss on mega vaca. You burned off ANY extra in Dominica!
We were so proud! Yes, Dom got to relax in the van while we were hiking... dang lazy turtle, haaaah... but he lives on our recording room shelf now. :P
Wow,Jay I am impressed, I could not have done that hike! You should be proud!!! Great job!❤👍 we hiked to Trafalger falls when we went, that was hard enough, but this is much harder!
We did the champagne snorkel last time, it was kind of cool but not outstanding snorkelling. Very proud of you Jay. I am noticing as I hit 50 that I am more careful about talking steep trails down . Last week we went to Jasper National Park and hiked up the glacier, the last time I did that was 10 years ago at 40, 50 is a whole different ball game. My boyfriend went further down than I did, I made the same decision when I saw another lady slip in front of me, I didn't want the stress.
I'd heard that the Champagne Reef took a lot of damage in a storm a few years back, and that it used to be a lot better. It sounded like a cool experience, and we might check it out eventually, hah...
Wow! You guys, I’m so proud of you two. I believe I would have second thoughts about a hike like this. I love to hike but usually in a flat dry forest, 😆. Got to give you kudos Jay, you did it! 👏🏽 👏🏽
Great video and Jay, you did a great job! There is no way my husband or I could do that hike. We're late 60s and have bad knees so, thank you Dee, for raising the fact that having 'bad knees' is not recommended for this hike. We're in Dominica in April 2022 on a cruise so I think we'll stick to an excursion showing the highlights of Dominica and forget the hikes :) Great job!!!
We've seen a lot of nice island tours and things, both through the ship as well as Waitukubuli Tours. Our first trip to Dominica, we did one through the ship but it did involve the option of walking down a lot of steps to get to Trafalgar Falls.
In (I think) Costa Rica we did the tour Walking in the Clouds. Very similar terrain and they gave us walking canes which helped me alot. It wore the heck out of me! There is nothing wrong with being proud of that accomplishment because I was proud of myself because I wanted to quit but did not. Thanks for sharing and that waterfall was beautiful.
Oh Jay!!! You jumped right in there and did the dog gone thing. I'm so proud of you (happy tears). All outside of your comfort and stuff. You inspired me. Dee you fid good too, but I expected you to. Lol Jay and I are the same. Not your typical Dee/Jay excursion, but beautiful.
Wow Jay, so proud of you. I would have got down to the water that you had to go through and turned back. Beautiful waterfall. What happened to the other couple? Did they not do the hike?
I'm so proud of you both! I love how you keep it real. Y'all are such an inspiration!! Thank you for the vlogs of this hike. I know I would never be able to hike it! Love y'all and your vlogs!
As Sean & Stef would say at the start of their vlogs, you needed a "hearty breakfast" in order to do this excursion. You could've done plan A with the Carnival crowd, so hopefully you'll get that opportunity.
So I guess I won’t be doing that hike with my mobility scooter!! Nope!! Did you have to sign a waiver beforehand?? Looked like it was the type of hike that experienced hikers would enjoy!
We actually didn't! Yes, we came across a couple of folks along the trail headed up as we were headed back down, and they were skinny folks huffing and puffing, hah... I didn't feel so bad after all!! :P ~Jay
ParoDeeJay - you did great (both you & Dee)! That wasn’t an easy trail - especially when it was wet & slippery. I used to hike (before my knee told me to stop) - but I stuck to easy trails (did lots of hiking in high school & college - in upstate NY) - but I’m OLD now - so I usually opt for open air safari bus tours of the islands!
Definitely a challenging hike, but a fantastic day! We did climb the steps down to Trafalgar Falls on our first visit, which was much easier, ha ha... :D
here is my question, I never been to Dominica so I know nothing about it. but what I did pick up on Jay is you said you got and email the night before and what you had book was only you and Dee. Not sure what changed you mind but it only looks like 2 ppl had booked this trip. So did they cancel what you had booked so you had no choice or what?
We partnered with Waitukubuli Tours in that they would let us tag along on any available tour that day at no cost because we would be documenting our honest experiences for the internet machine as a form of testimonial. Since no paying customers booked the snorkel, we were down to joining the two folks on the hike or the two folks for the city tour, and we went with the more adventurous option, ha ha... but we're so glad that we did it!! :D
Super smart and humble. Much better to admit limits then becoming a statistic. Growing up in Alaska people choose to ignor common sense and limits. It costs them life or tax payers search and fescue.
So much to say but I'm not saying it again(LOL)... When ever you go into a "rain forest" you must bring a poncho or an umbrella...next time you visit Puerto Rico try the "El Yunque" rain forest state park, much better prepared to walk around and beautiful as that one in Dominica.
True! As we said in the intro talky bit, we didn't know we were doing a rainforest hike until the day before, ha ha... we had intended to go snorkeling in Dominica!! :P
