If you were told there was a delay, why would you wait in line? Go to a restaurant eat, drink and relax. Why would you worry about your place in line?

"they would lose their place in line" if you actually watched the whole video which makes your comment stupid

Not everyone got the notification despite what Princess said, and not everyone has all kinds of money to spend! Why worry about the place in line? You have obviously never had to stand in line with almost 3000 peop0le to check in and process. The standing time can be long under the best of circumstances.

They are whining about 5 HOURS???? BFD!!!!! I thought it would be 22 hours or something. What a bunch of complainers.

Not everyone got notification, despite what Princess said. Normally, they start boarding at 11:30, so people had arrived early to get checked in, pick up their medallions, have lunch on board, and enjoy the activities that were planned for that first day. Consequently, there were people that got there at 9 or ten. Some people waited up to 12 hours' over all. The really long lines started forming in the afternoon when they were no longer sending them to the Hyatt. It was at capacity as well....many of those people who HAD received the notice had been told that they would be boarding no later than 6:30, so planning in the wait time, they got there anywhere from 3-5 pm. They did not start boarding until after 10pm. I would hazard to guess that if you had been one of those waiting for hours, in the cold and damp weather, with nowhere to sit, no bathrooms available unless you left and went for a walk to find one, you might not be quite so flippant or snarky.

Getting a few cruise ships stuck out in the bay could be a unique way to deal with the housing crisis. Next time call in the local food trucks.
@dianatodd2300
@dianatodd2300 9 месяцев назад
Food trucks with Princess paying the tab would have been a good idea. It wouldn't solve all the problems but would have gone a long way to helping with the discomforts of the day.
@ydne

@@dianatodd2300 Nice idea. However, in the situation just having a way to let local food trucks know where and when to be somewhere, where there was a hungry crowd that can not leave to find food, would have gone a long way to help the crisis.

there were mostly senior citizens and many people with mobility challenges in this crowd...temps in the upper 40s to low 50s...no bathroom facilities for folks in line and there were upper hundreds in this line for hours...terrible conditions for these seniors...maybe you should get a grip...

First of all... I was one of those passengers, and yes, one of the disabled. I never got the notification from Princess, and I CHECKED MY EMAIL! Secondly, while Princess had no control over "mother nature," or the failures of the port authority to ensure dredging was underway before the ship arrived, Princess DID not do very well in handling the situation. When we got there, we were handed a paper explaining the situation and told that we would be bussed to the Hyatt hotel, and be given enjoyable snacks and be able to rest in comfort. (Well...as comfortable as sitting in a chair at a table can be comfortable. ) Mind you, when you have 3000 plus passengers stranded, that's a lot of food. Early arrivals received fruit, protein bars, and chips, as well as coffee, tea or water. Later arrivals found only chips and water. Some passengers who waited in the terminal got sandwiches, but there were' not enough and they ran out quickly. Princess also said that they were giving everyone a $25 dollar refundable credit on our shipboard accounts. Well, $25 for two meals in San Francisco is a joke, and as it turned out, it was NOT refundable. After chips and water, I finally left the hotel to find a place to eat iunch,. Consequently, I spent $40 dollars on lunch and another $30 on chips, soda, and a protein drink for my sister and myself before we ever got onto the ship, as I did not have enough money left to buy anything for dinner. At about 6:30, the Hyatt had to kick us out or move us to a smaller room because they had to prepare for an event in the larger room where we had been, so Princess bussed us BACK to the terminal where we waited in line for hours more. The lines to get into the terminal snaked all the way around the building and into the street. Those who had not come earlier in the day had filled the terminal to over capacity, and they had to lock down the building. So, thousands of people waited out in the damp cold weather for hours., and YES, some of them were there for up to 8 hours. The usual rules of sorting passengers either weren't applied, or were haphazardly handled, and there was a lot of confusion. I honestly felt sorry for the Princess people who were dealing with cross, tired, upset customers, and receiving conflicting information that did nothing to help the situation. When I finally got on the ship, it was after 11pm. They did hold the buffet open to midnight, but many people didn't get on until after that. The last passengers got on shortly before the ship left at about 1:15. We crossed under the GG bridge at 1:55. Now what was the result of that first day debacle? Many people suffered effects from that long wait. I, and some others I met, had massive asthma problems that affected us for the whole cruse. One lady went to the medical services, who do not take any insurance, had to fork out nearly $400 dollars to be seen and to get some medications. My back was in spasms for days, and I was only able to handle one of the excursions...only got off the ship in one port, and didn't take advantage of most of the activities on board that I normally do. ( I did get a lot of book reading time and movie watching in tho) Many people such as myself have limited financial resources. I'm a disabled senior who works part time as a substitute teacher. We had booked this trip over a year ago, and paid everything off before arriving, but had limited spending money. So the options for all the situations were limited as well. Thankfully, I did prepare for most things...packed meds, inhalers, etc. The only exception being that I forgot the cough syrup...lol. My sister found some at a small Mexican shop near the port, but had to pay nearly $40 for a two small bottles of cough syrup. (ouch!) Of course, there were a lot of people impacted for the duration of the cruise, and I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for the guest services and customer relations people to handle it all. I will say that Princess did give me $150 future credit on another cruise in compensation, and to be fair, I know that the employees were doing their best under trying circumstances. I don't feel too bad however, because that money will come right back to them on our next cruise! I have sailed on Princess before, and this was not the usual experience. Hopefully, they will have learned a few lessons as well, and will have made better plans for any future such situations.

Despite the bad start, despite the ongoing problems...health, plumbing issues, etc. It was still a good trip! The people of Princess are some of the nicest people ever and you meet wonderful people as well! The worst day on the ship is better than most days in the real world....lol. We will be back! !

@dianatodd2300 I agree. The whole staff was always so nice and welcoming despite the fact they work their butts off. We booked out second trip for January 2025 to Hawaii before we got off the ship we loved it that much.

Many did. But the times listed did not go as planned, and there were too many for the building to handle, so the lines outside got longer and longer as the weather got colder and damper. It was not good.

Taking a cruise isn't my cup of tea. Too slow, too crowded. That wait in line outside on a cold San Francisco night would've been a deal-breaker for me. I'd forget the trip and demand my money back.
