I was ready to order this AMP but thought was a bit under-powered for running two Electro-Voice EKX-15's so I upgraded to the Crown XTi 1002, hope it was worth the extra dough. I had recently tried to run DJ equipment with the powered speakers, EV-ZLX 15's and they were blowing power fuses and overloading the electrical system, so I went back to AMP. (not to mention powered speakers do seem to pick up more RF interference.) I do still have the EV-ZLX in 12" which are great for smaller venues. I am a Sweetwater customer as well and have used Crown for years, Crown is excellent although I wish they would just avoid Speakon outputs and instead build in XLR for speaker outputs or TRS female.
@@NikhilDangui not according to their website. If you check the documentation, the xti is more powerful. Not sure why it's only advertised as a 500w amp vs the xls advertised as a 525w, but it's the specs that count and the specs say xti is more powerful 🙂
I can answer that in detail even i use one of these amp to drive my subwoofers (JBL 100, 18 inch each subs rated at 750watt RMS @ 4 ohm EACH) i run the 1502 XLS in bridged mode (1025watt @4ohm) the crossovers alone are worth having these amps. You can set per channel crossovers in stereo mode, or 1 channel in bridged (doubling the power) My setup is as follow Pioneer ELITE vsx82txsi receiver 7.1 7x130watt @8 ohm 20-20khz tested (so no skewed specs) Pioneer ELITE dvd i use that one as cd transport and bluray player Monster HTS 3600 power conditioner. Crown 1502XLS to drive the two JBL subs and also as crossover set to 47.5hz Lynnfield Boston acoustics VR40 front (USA made, VR top model series, not the today's chinese ones) Lynnfield Boston acoustics VR40 side Lynnfield Boston acoustics VR12 centerBoston acoustics VR MX dipole rears 2x Micro micro90pv subs used in tandem with the fronts 2x JBL JRX100 18inch subs (probably the biggest ones you will see in a home theater by far) You will never need 3 crowns, 1 will do it the Bowers and Wilkins you got is hardly a hard speaker to drive and need little to operate. Buying 3 would be overkill and totally useless in your setup your speakers do not go lower than 52HZ, low-end is where you will need power/stability and it will draw most there, to illustrate what my 1 crown is doing it drives 2 subs, that can handle 750watt rms each, so 1400watts and can handle 28hz. I have never, ever taxed my crown it can drive it with ease and yes without breaking up. Let alone with your setup, i can promise you get one try it. It will control your speakers with ease and pretty much any speaker you wish to drive. I was a skeptic to introduce a PA amp into my setup, lots of audiophiles feel themselves to good for it. Well they are all, wrong the sonic quality of these amps is absolutely outstanding and the amount of power you get for your money. Not high end amp, can really compete with that and yes hang a low impedance speaker on it. NOT A PROBLEM....
Plz Let know if crown xls series have AC input volatage selector. I plan to buy it in usa where the av voltage is 110v and use it in europe where ac voltage os 220v.
Hola buenas yo tengo un marantz Sr 6014 y los altavoces son Sonus Faber Principia 7 que modelo de Etapa Crown de la serie xls recomendáis? un saludo des de Madrid
You said about DSP high pass low pass crossover using one amplifier that's only on one speaker though not too speakers using both channels isn't it. It's taking one channel low-pass and one channel at high pass you would need two amplifiers to run two speakers not one amplifier.
@Luke Schneider Do you mean "It only accepts pro level"? I didn't understand this "o my" bit. If that's the case, yes we should be very careful what we buy. With respect to what precedes any power amp, in the chain. Moreover, it gets a bit more complicated with unbalanced outputs from let's say a player or a 2ch dj mixer/preamp to a power amp with only balanced (xlr) inputs. Nevertheless, you're totally correct about this Crown. It can do consumer devices. I just hope "Vaping with James" didn't listen to me blindly and hopefully ended up not looking for a preamp. Not to mention this was 3 months ago.
@Luke Schneider Yes yes I know! The possibility of such case I mentioned, for nowadays products is zero. It's just that a couple of months ago, I stumbled upon three battered and bruised, 15y old or so power amps, at a pub, from obscure brands like Deton(?!) and Mac Mah(?!), which had only xlr inputs. It's surely a thing of the past. You never know what's still out there and still working! But yes, everything now has rca terminals, too. Even 6.35mm jacks.
@Luke Schneider Roger that! It's confusing when you start. Needs quite a lot of reading, memorizing schematics and hands on practice. Also the number of cheap combo cables in the market (xlr to rca to jacks to speakon to euroconnectors to whatever) is making people believe anything can be connected to everything without problems, hence permanent installations, like the example I gave, having gear from several doctrines and you trying to become Sherlock Holmes to figure out noise, drops, hiss, loudness levels etc. I've come across several such atrocities. All because owners usually ask electricians to choose, install and set up.
I recently purchased an XLS 1502. Great amp but it had one problem. The LED VU meters can be turned OFF in the amp's control panel. The only problem is the next time you power up the amp and crank up the volume the bottom green LED of each VU meter will begin to flicker. The sensitivity of the meter is much lower though. I went into the control panel and it confirmed that the meters were indeed OFF. I turned them ON and back OFF again and the LEDs went dark like they are supposed to. The very next day I had to go thru the same procedure again. I purchased it from Crutchfield so I explained the problem and exchanged the amp for another. The 2nd amp had the exact same issue. Crutchfield contacted Crown and explained the problem to them. The Crown guy said that this is normal and that there was no current fix for it. So the amp is advertised as having a feature that does not work correctly. WTF Crown?
Hey, James! Jose Gonzalez from Sweetwater, here. Great question! The signal does have to be converted to digital in order to use the signal processing. I would love to speak with you more on this, so feel free to reach out to me directly at my details below. Thanks for the interest! if I have 2 speakers per side of 500w rms 8 ohm what amplifier power does it need at 4 ohm per channel? Model and power exactly by mid hight frequenzi, and 2 speakers per side of 700w rms 8 ohm for subbass 160/20 Hz. Exactly.
How can I have individual volume control remotely of each channel? Preferably under $30 Thought about splicing up two RCA bass knobs + - input with the sub wire then the other out RCA on the knob directly into the amp....but I don't understand how to determine if that is suitable for the potentially upwards of 300+ watt RMS draw from each channel Will this work and if so any concerns/cons? Or any better options? Would appreciate replies from anyone that would be knowledgeable on best way to accomplish this. Cheers!
It sounds amazing and works great for loudspeakers in the home. Especially ones with 12-15 inch passive woofers which are incredibly hard to drive. Just pick one up and try it, trust me.
This amp outperformed my Emotiva and My NAD and did so without coloration...not warm not bright, it just puts out what you put in. For the price, I highly recommend you try this amp on your Hi-Fi set up and see what it can do. Read & watch the reviews first!!
