These radios work extremely good on sideband but the standard mic is pants, some folks have a KPO power mic on them but the Sharpshooter mic buries the KPO and the Sharpshooter mic sounds incredible with it's crystal clear audio.. I use my 6900 all the time and have great compliments on it.
@@lambrettadave7 I tried my Astatic 636L on mine and asked for checks.. most folks said it sounded too nasel and pinchy and not very nice.. so I don't know but you may have a different Astatic.. but trust me the Sharpshooter gun type from Knights really does sound brilliant on this rig, everyone I know that uses this radio swear by it. and all of them sound good on theirs.
Thanks, if you have owned a SSB rig before then this would be fine with it having channel and frequency readout help's alot. The menu functions don't really need to be adjusted but the manual explains what they do anyway. Hello dave I think I've commented on one of your videos, I'm steven from Durham...having issues with my antron a99..gonna send it back and get a aluminium antenna, I was looking at the newer crt 6900 v would you recommend?
For the money compared to the McKinley they represent good value though the paint on the casings is poor/thin and easily marked the 6900v and the ss7900 are highly regarded if treated with a little respect. I don't care much for the mic to be honest but a friend on RU-vid recommended a Sharp shooter mic. Isn't the kpo 5000dx the same radio but cheaper. I suppose I comes down to wether you want frequency and channel read out or just frequency. These rigs are about the same size as a cobra 148/ ss3900. I am in South Tyneside by the way
@lambrettadave7 or yeah I get you. The crt 9900 is not much more than the 6900. The 9900 has more power? But the 6900v is newer....so for around £200 what would you choose? Or a different radio altogether?
The 9900 can't really be used at 60watts on FM constantly as it could overheat and damage the radio on SSB it's okay.. Judging by reports on the 7900 that would be a great choice as it has a large LCD display . I think the 6900 is a well sorted radio and with the Sharp shooter mic it would be a great set too, only the clicky fine tune is slightly annoying. A couple of years ago I chose the 9900 over the 7900 and 6900 because of the high power and multi coloured screen but I think now that the 6900 and 7900 are the better radio's. In time I will get a 7900.. Ps finding a used 6900 is quite easy too but the v version is a little harder
