CRUISE REVIEW - Sky Princess - 5 Night Round UK Cruise

I went on yet another cruise! The cruise lines continued to offer great value cruises around the UK as Summer turned into Autumn, so when I saw a cruise on the Sky Princess, I couldn't resist.
This was my first cruise on Princess, although I had been scheduled to be on this exact ship for a landmark birthday earlier in 2021 - instead of celebrating my 50th bobbing around the US Virgin Islands, lockdown meant I enjoyed a trip to Asda instead... I had a travel voucher left over from that earlier cancellation which made this cruise even better value...
But did I enjoy it? Yes... Were there things about the ship I didn't much like? Yes again... I bumped into RU-vid royalty when aboard in the form of Gary Bembridge from the "Tips for Travellers" channel. At 220k subscribers, he's got a mere 219k more than me.... And yes I do wear the same shirt on every embarkation day, so although the thumbnails look similar, each picture is of my first drink on embarkation of each cruise . And also yes, this was a video I made while experimenting with my lighting set up. And no, the new lighting set up didn't work...

Celebrity have done the headliner thing a couple of times on cruises we've been on - once was a ship's production cast "special"! which was so so. Another was a member of the production cast who did a Magic Show which was pretty good (not probably as polished as an established act) including a great Chinese face changing act - which was something we'd never seen before

Thanks Matt for the review. I travelled this time last year on Sky and a few weeks later on Regal. Although reg ships are similar I found the experience of entertainment and service were markedly different, Sky being far superior. I agree with many of your points especially about the food and In particular , about the atrium being so brightly lit, I have photophobia and for me the whole ship was way too bright. - nice to know it’s not just me on this occasion.

I am a fan of both Celebrity and Princess but I need to point out a few things about Princess. The open concept in the atrium area is based on the American love of open concept, especially in their houses. I personally cannot tolerate RCI's promenade style which they introduced after the Radiance class. I might as well be in a cave. That and the incredible decline in food quality from my first RCI voyage in 1994 led me to Princess and then to Celebrity. If you think Princess' decor is garish wait until you try Carnival. That, among other issues, made Carnival a one and done for me. The current buffet style on Princess was introduced on Royal class ships. Having sailed on an older ship this summer, I am reminded of how superior the newer style is. The older style is a cramped mess. I will admit that Celebrity has the superior buffet layout and I like its food better, too.

Thanks! I agree about the promenades and I say it in other videos - you just don't feel like you're on a ship... My first 2 cruises were on Celebrity back in 2009 and 2010 - smaller ships and I have vague memories of lots of colour!!!
