One of the most amazing parts of cruising is being able to visit multiple ports in a single vacation! Here are some cruise tips to make the best of your ports & excursions.
There are five options of what to do while visiting a port:
Book a shore excursion through your cruise line (this can be pre-booked online or while you are on the cruise ship)
Book online with an outside vendor
Walk off the ship and hire one of the local tour guides in the port
Explore the port on your own
Stay on the ship
While some of you may want to stay on board and enjoy an empty ship... these tips will help everyone else enjoy their day in port.

We typically book private tours for just our family. My wife has mobility issues and cannot do stairs on a bus very easy. Also, I hate crowded buses. We do lots of research and find a reputable tour guide that offers private excursions. We sometimes pay more than a Carnival excursion because it is just for our family, so it is not always because it is cheaper. It is more about our comfort. We have done everything from tour guides, taxis for the day, to renting our own vehicle for the day. However, there are some excursions, if we did them, we would book through Carnival due to the distance. I totally understand the other side about being "safe" by booking through carnival. It really depends on how a person is wired and what stresses them. It is vacation and each person needs to do excursions that will be stress free and fun.

Love your videos! I will say that on our first cruise, we went on an excursion through the ship that was super popular. WELL, the van kept overheating and we were stalled in the mountains for about an hour! To top it off the driver definitely didn’t know much about cars because he was literally pouring water on the engine to “cool it down.” We got back an hour past departure time and if we hadn’t booked through or cruise line, we would’ve been stranded in St. Lucia. I definitely will not book long excursions ever through an outside company after that experience! We do, however do the “on your own” stuff, especially in safe islands like St. Maarten.

Carnival Cruise Line will match the price of the same excursion offered by other vendors. We have done this several times.

How does that work? Do you have to have printed proof from somewhere to show them a discounted price? We are leaving Dec. 15th for 7 day western caribbean on carnival glory & binge watching you also, have gained a lot of useful information!!

@@EECCTravels another thing to consider is when you trying to book it yourself some activities provider would not take cruise tourists. I found several in Mexico ports.

Happy Cruise Day! We did the Sunscape resort in Jamaica and we were so glad we went there. If anybody is concidering this, I would highly recommend it! And we went there on our anniversary so it was even more special! ❤

Thanks for the video. I think another pro for booking from the cruise line is that even though it may be pricier the drivers, vehicles etc. have been checked out as a whole and thus makes it easier for someone to trust and feel safe using them. IMHO. :-)

Great tips! I prefer to book my excursions through Carnival as well. I like to feel safe and know I will be back on the ship on time HOWEVER I will book with Sunscape in Montego Bay.

Hey Alicia and Jason oh my god I must say I am so in love with your channel. I am so glad I found it, because you guys are really giving me lots of tips and lots of information I need and you guys are just so cute and so adorable and so much fun to watch. I wish I was able to hang out with you guys in person cuz I feel like we would be best friends, I would totally have so much fun going on a cruise with you guys. I will be going on my second cruise on Carnival on September 8th leaving out of Miami returning September 15th, I will be doing a Western Caribbean cruise going to Grand Cayman and Mahogany Bay and Believe and also Cozumel. So this would be my second cruise and I am so excited I cannot wait, also this would be my very first seven day cruise my first cruise was a 3 day cruise to Ensenada. I want you guys to know that I am totally binge-watching all of your video so I'm going to try to leave a comment in every videos, letting you guys know I have washed it. And yes of course I will like every video and of course I have subscribed to your Channel with the Bell okay because like I said I am really enjoying your Channel. A port day is a great time for discounted spa treatments or having the water slides to yourself. There are also activities like trivia, live music, etc.

Yes, we went there two years ago. There are actually two videos of the resort in our Carnival Freedom playlist. It is still to date the best day in port we’ve had!

Can y'all tell me, is it more expensive to book an excursion on the day of embarkation? I mean, like on the way to port, just before boarding? The price only increases once onboard, correct???

Not yet but we definitely will! I want to start with Liberty of the Seas as it is the closest to us. Get comfortable with RC before trying out one of their giants!

I’m so frustrated looking at the excursions. Embarkation day is May 19th (Yaaay!! 🎉) I’m taking 2 kids. One is a strong swimmer and the other can not swim at all. I noticed that there are also weight limitations as well as age limitations. Anyone have any ideas? Have you ever skipped excursions altogether and still had a good time? Am I limiting my experience if I don’t book? I’m so confused.

think how far is your wish destination from port, are there any must reserve or extremely long lines at museums art galleries palaces ancient ruins? if destinations are the same city town or a suburb , no excursion is needed, just take train or bus, mini van. florence uffizi accademia or siena from spezia, milano last supperfrom Savona, rome or vatican or orvieto assisi Civitavecchia, pont du gard or nimes from marseilles or toulon, paris le havre, london southampton, berlin warnemuende, brussels from zeebrugge or antwerp, cordoba or granada alhambra from malaga or almeria or motril, seville from huelva or cadiz.

Happy Easter! I was wondering, how far is Atlantis from the port in Nassau? I booked us through an outside company, but we are there for 9 hours. Should I worry about making it back to the ship on time?First time cruiser here.

Our tip is to eat less, and stop thinking about food! You will still have fun and you will enjoy your food much more without feeling stuffed or bloated for two weeks.

Where do you meet up with your guide to leave for excursions if you booked through carnival?

They will give you instructions. Usually when you get off the ship in the port there will be a bunch of people with signs for the different excursions. Just find the sign for the one you are on and check in.

what website do you recommend booking through for Progresso?

We have only been to Progresso once and it was a few years ago. We just explored the port on our own. Look on cruiseline.com and tripadvisor.com and see what is recommended if you want to book outside the cruise line. If you are interested, I can look to see what is available through the tour company my travel agency uses.
