I am a member of a cruising group on Facebook. I posted a video montage of one of our cruises after we came back. My wife and I had just made Gold status on Carnival on that cruise, so I posted our gold cards in one of the pics. It was up for maybe 10 minutes before my wife found out and advised me to either black out our folio number, or take the one pic out of the montage for just this reason! There are just some evil, jealous people out there! I took the pic down.

Giving your booking number is like giving you PIN number. All the crooks had to do was go to a credit check or Identity check public info service and they had all the info the needed. Like a bank, if you make your private info known and it leads to identity theft the company is not held responsible. Whether we like it or not Carnival was not obliged to give her anything...she made an expensive mistake...and lord knows what else because she doesn't know if these people are professional hackers.....or someone who dislikes her and found a way to do her harm... hopefully not but in this world.... you keep your stuff to yourself. Carnival made one fatal mistake with their offer.....that the offer was attached to the obligation of her making a positive feed back video... that's what put the nail in the coffin for them. She could take them to court, but she would lose because she gave out the info...the judge might make Carnival give an amount, but it would never be the amount she paid for the trip.

A…The number one rule when posting on any social media platform is to not post personal information that you don’t want the world to know about. No one should ever post the dates of any vacation where you will not be at your home. More people have their homes broken into while they’re on vacation than people who are not on vacation. I feel that Carnival was very fair with their offer since it was not Carnival that posted her personal booking information on social media. A very expensive lesson to be learned. If you stick your hand in the fire you will get burned.

@rosey312
@rosey312 2 месяца назад
@@rebeccajohnson1571 posting her booking number was her fault. The most they could do is ban the offenders profile. But something else is amiss. How did they get her log in info to change the booking? That is the only part of this story that is suspect, unless she has been hacked or someone close to her did it. People who like to brag about trips, or what class they fly in often post their loyalty number and think it doesn't matter. It does!

@goytabr
@goytabr 2 месяца назад
@@rosey312, yes, she made a big mistake. She could even post the document or screenshot, but with all the sensitive information obscured. HOWEVER, allowing an unknown person to link someone else's reservation number to their account is a very serious security flaw. That should NEVER be allowed to happen without further checks in a well-designed and secure information system. That by itself already makes the company liable. The fact that Carnival knew for sure that she hadn't canceled her cruise herself and still refused to resolve the situation satisfactorily makes them further liable. She can sue them until they bleed for a full refund plus damages, and she will most likely win (and I hope she does). Finally, as other commenters have pointed out, and I agree, it's sheer business stupidity to alienate a passenger, especially one who can afford such an expensive cabin.

My answer is no. Carnival should make it very difficult to cancel a cruise, especially at such a late date. This should be a red flag. Also, when the cancellation is requested from a different region as the original booking this should be a red flag as well. As a programmer, this information should be easily known to the application performing the cancellation. The requirement of posting on social media is kind of lame.

If the suite was no longer available, that means it was booked again after being "canceled" and therefore Carnival got paid twice for the suite. Obviously, they should have refunded the $$ paid by this family. Btw, my wife and I are Diamond status cruisers with Carnival and currently have 16 weeks of cruises booked for 2024 - 2025 Again, if the suite was no longer available, that means it was paid for twice. This is tricky because it really wasn't Carnival's fault. The fault resides with the husband when he put private info (tracker or not) on Facebook or any other Social Media. Personally, I'm not certain having a travel agent would really change this kind of outcome. The hacker or fraudsters could also do this kind of thing to an agent, as well. It's sad that Carnival had to have their help contingent on a positive social media review. That rather takes away from their offer. I think the next step is the Fraud Dept at their bank. There might even be some international reciprocity between Fraud agents to get these guys. Good luck to everyone!

I'm conflicted on this one. On the one hand, the "Doctor" did make a very big blunder by posting the booking number. Presumably, her Facebook profile also showed her date of birth, the combination of which enabled our bad actor to make the changes. That is pretty bad information discipline. On the other hand, if Carvinal had sold that suite, then some refund should have been made. If they hadn't sold the suite, they should have restored her booking. At the very least, I do agree that two interiors is not equal to one suite. Here's another good plug for using a TA and buying CFAR insurance. EDIT to add: also, the whole "flying to the port anyway" thing strikes me as a bit...odd. Not ascribing any motives to that, but it seems to be atypical behavior given the situation as we know it.

If the cruise had been cancelled…why were they still allowing her to “manage” her booking. Additionally, “a phone” call to tell her the booking had been canceled??? If she supposedly cancelled the booking…why did they need to contact her to advise her of the cancellation she supposedly made. THERE IS SOME PEE IN THE WATER and someone from Carnival is in on it or trying to mitigate an error by a staff member. It would be interesting to find out if someone else ended up in that room and when they were allowed to “book” it. She needs to set up a matrix of actual timelines when events took place. If the cruise was canceled by a fake person, and Carnival is aware, the fee originally paid by the original person should be honored in this case. To me it’s not the same as the cruise policy states that if “you” cancel your booking in a short timeframe there’s no refund. Carnival admitting the person didn’t cancel, it was fraud. So the booked cabin should still be available or was it immediately rebooked? I think an identical planned cruise should be agreed up or in this case, an exception and get a refund, not less in future cruise credit. Thanks for sharing because we do get excited and caught up in social media cruising groups. I make sure I don’t share too much about my cruise plans like I’ll generalize my cruise dates, destinations, but never ever personal information like booking numbers, and not even my cabin number unless a cruise from my past. Hopefully things work out for her.
