Thank you Joel for the awesome review! And thanks to those in comments who supported the game with a pre-order! That's so awesome.

Went out of my way and did my first and only pre-order ever :) Can't wait to pick it up at Essen! Needless to say Joel's reviews are the best! Thanks once again ^^

The way the Trogs play in a 3 player game of this reminds me of the neutral monsters in Arcadia Quest, which is a mechanic I really liked about that game.

Thanks for the rules overview and review Joel. I have had my eye on it but wanted to see more of the game play and rule set which you have offered. Adding this to my wishlist!

Mage Knight like card play in under 2 hours? YES!! The main thing about Mage Knight that I hated is that you're slogging through 6 hours of the game unable to do stuff.

Thanks for the review Joel. I recently purchased Blood Rage, which I thought would be too close to this game, but after the review I think they are certainly distinct enough to own both. How about comparing to Study in Emerald 2nd Edition? The Martin Wallace deckbuilding and multiple use cards certainly seem to overlap here - albeit without the hidden team element.
@DriveThruReview
@DriveThruReview 8 лет назад
That's a hard one to compare. They don't have much in common, even the multi-use card play is very different.

Which game do you prefer? This one or Tyrants of the Underdark?

Not sure if you still remember or even play this game. I've just bought a copy few months ago and became my favourite one. Very hard to find something similar: high player interaction, play within 2 hours, good at 2 to 4, area control head to head game, acceptable luck factor. Do you have any recommendation? I have a new gaming group and fortunately they prefer this kind of games (vs. my previous one who loved the euro games which are too dry or solitaire for me).

I'd throw in Ankh or Blood Rage. Very different feel to this one, but has those elements.

@@DriveThruReview Thank you for the recommendation! Just checked and both available in my language which normally would be great. Unfortunately one of our gaming grup can only speak English so probably I need to order it from abroad. Thank you for the prompt answer very much!

Looks cool. Too bad I wouldn't be able to get it played.

Hi I just come to your review on this game and it looks great, but I’m not sure whether it goes to a similar experience comparing to Dine: Imperium. I have got the base game and rise of ix expansion and my friends loved it as well, it would be great if you can parallel these games for me thanks!!
@DriveThruReview
@DriveThruReview 3 месяца назад
For me, it would be Dune: Imperium all the way. They are somewhat different styles of games though. This is a more traditional area control style game.

A review already for this game? You don't joke around.

One small mistake. The defender can leave the Battle Region in different way. If f.e. Humans attack with 4 units, then only 2 defender units are occupied (one defender is occupied by two attackers) with battle and the rest can move (not 8 defender units are occupied like shown in the example in 13:00) :) Either way - great review :)
@DriveThruReview
@DriveThruReview 8 лет назад
It's the reverse of what you say actually. From the rules: "Example: The Pilgrim player Moves 3 Units into a Region with 8 Human Units... On the Humans’ turn, they may Move up to 2 Units out of the Region (as 3 Pilgrim Units ‘block’ 6 Human Units). " Just for clarification. The Attacker cannot move any units out of the region.
@Niwgnip
@Niwgnip 8 лет назад
+Drive Thru Review of course :) It is reversed :) my mistake!

No worries. I had to read that sentence a few times to get it through my head. In practice it makes more sense. Basically, you can lock down "some" of the defenders. But, they can still get others out to other areas. Once Battles occur, there are tactics that can bounce your units around between Battle Zones. It makes more sense thematically once you play it ;)

+Drive Thru Review I know. I was one of playtesters :) just mispronounced attacker /defender :) Love the game :)

Joel, do you think I should buy Blood Rage or Cry Havoc? This will be the first dudes-on-a-map game that I add to my collection and one of the main requirements is accessibility. My game group is quite informal and prefers short yet meaty games. I'm just concerned because Blood Rage received so many accolades and I'm not sure if this game can compare quality-wise.
@DriveThruReview
@DriveThruReview 8 лет назад
Get both! I would say if you are new with combat in-your-face heavy games, Cry Havoc might be a better decision. Blood Rage can be swingy as people learn it, due to the card drafting "barrier to entry".

+Drive Thru Review awesome, thanks so much! I think I will start with Cry Havoc and get Blood Rage later if it works out. Love what you are doing with this channel!

Drive Thru Review darn. I got excited when I heard you say that you might. I thought your Frostgrave figures looked nice. I'm all for painting the figures that come in board games - makes the game that much more fun to play, IMHO.
@DriveThruReview

Ya. All those other figures are part of the reason I haven't gotten to painting these :)

How does this play as a two player? I know it has a two player board in he back but I'm trying to see if my girlfriend would like it.
@DriveThruReview
@DriveThruReview 7 лет назад
Huh... I thought I covered that. It works great at all player counts imo :) If anything three is the weakest player count because it adds that blue faction which can kind of turtle a bit more than the others. I still like it with three, but you have to know that going in and bit a little bit more aggressive with blue.
