Heath Ledger didn’t actually take his own life, he was going through mental health issues and said that since playing the joker, he couldn’t sleep, his mind kept going while his body was exhausted, so he started taking sleeping pills and to much of it. He overdosed. (He also said that the joker was the most fun he’s ever had playing a character, it just took a lot of energy out of him with his mental health issues).
@Balnazzardi
@Balnazzardi Год назад
Indeed Heath's death happened by accident, he wasnt suicidal and didnt mean to take his own life. He overdosed by accident. But in way I guess you can say that this role took his life, because he put so much effort and work on it that it made the problems he had before worse. Jack Nicholson had actually warned him about the role, although I guess that was more of a joke he made.

Christian Bale has done a couple interviews saying that Heath was himself when he wasn't filming. He didn't go too deep in the role (those were just rumors). Heath did have some trouble sleeping and was taking sleeping pills and had an accidental overdose when mixing medicine, it was an accident

gmdwill. Well, if you look at it this way, they'd still be murdering people on their own boats if indeed they had the detonator to their own boat. And Joker wanted to make an example of that to the entire city. That someone Did push the button. Point is, it was a win win for the Joker either way. Joker lost when no-one pushed the button. I went to court when I was 18 & had my parents with me, they work in local government & know almost all of the cops. When we got to security parents & the security had a short talk bc they know each other & one of the police officers even apologized that we had to be there for court. wasn’t put through the metal detectors or searched in any kind of way. Could have easily had a gun in my bean boots or just under my jacket in the waistband, could have had an ankle holster. (I obviously would never do that but could have) given there’s 3/4 cops in the lobby, another 2 at the doors into the courtroom & 3 more in the court room with the local sheriff all in uniform & armed & the sherrifs department & city police headquarters a block away. All just to say that yeah corrupt cops or knowing the right ppl & it would be extremely easy to get a gun into a court room. I was proven innocent in court & my record is clean btw

@@slmott399 Kinda true, but a lot was once made of "carbon fibre" guns, just as a lot is made now of 3D-printed "ghost guns". I think Hugh Laurie had the best response to the idea in his book "The Gun Seller" (IIRC): "Even if the gun doesn't get picked-up, it's hard to pass-off the 17 rounds in the magazine as lipstick refills". Same kinda deal with "ghost guns"; wake me when they manage to 3D print a barrel, a chamber, the propellant-containing section of a round, or the rest of the components of a gun that must withstand extremely-high pressures and temperatures and therefore have to be metal, meaning they have to be cast in large-scale easily-monitorable facilities (zip guns are a bit of a different story (eg. the device used to assassinate Shinzo Abe some years back), but they're only good for one shot, and even they need metal barrels and chambers). In fact, might be accurate to say that 3D "ghost guns" are as much of a threat as zip guns ever were, ie. "not much".

Let's not forget manslaughter in the case of Ra's al Ghoul, Invasion of Privacy from the cell phone sonar, he's committed kidnapping both domestic and internationally after smuggling himself into a foreign country, and I somehow doubt he has legal permits for literally any weapon he carries that functions as a projectile or explosive. Batman is a hard criminal full stop. He's a criminal that uses his criminal activity as a means of reducing the crime rate but he's a criminal nonetheless. That's the point of the movie; interrogating if solving crime by flagrantly violating the law is conducive to long-term peace. The film itself doesn't quite land on a definitive conclusion to the question because it's a hard one to answer but this is why I snicker and face palm everytime I hear somebody asking "How is Batman a criminal?"

If you see an actor wearing eyeliner on screen, it’s a good tell that they might have been trained in the theatre or had classical training. They eyeliner is used to make stage actors eyes visible to the audience for expressions. If they didn’t wear it, then from the audience perspective, you wouldn’t be able to tell if they’re eyes are even open.

True, but depends what you mean by "plan". If a "plan" is a set of actions with a specific outcome in mind, Joker doesn't really have those. Instead, he creates situations in which people have to make fundamental moral choices. He doesn't know what choice they're going to make, but he's willing to bet pretty heavily on his assumptions, like that his bank-heist gang would all choose to betray each other and leave him with all the cash and no living associates to flip on him.

The scenes where the joker has a hostage and is videoing them is Heath doing it with a camcorder. The director gave him a camcorder and said film the scene so it made it look more like the Joker doing it. In the jail when Gordon gets the promotion the Joker clapping was improvised by Heath and the director liked it and kept it in. Also in the jail when Batman is interrogating him Heath wanted Christian to really hit him so it looked more realistic. Heath even did his own makeup so it looked like someone with Jokers frame of mind gets ready. What’s good about this Joker is he makes people think they’re in charge when in all actuality he is the one in control. Like the scene in the hospital when he gives Harvey a gun to point at him. The Joker had his thumb on the hammer so it won’t fire. When it was public that Heath was playing the Joker Jack Nicholson (who played Joker in the 1989 Batman) told Heath to be careful cause the role can really mess with your mind if you’re not careful. A lot of people say Heath was fine with the role that it didn’t mess with him but it did which is why he over medicated. It’s said he died cause it looked like they were planning on doing more movies with him as Joker.

Was it because of whatever he put himself through to get into his roles? Or was it just that actors just get into substance abuse for various other reasons? We can never really know for sure. Why does anybody fall down the hole of drug abuse? Sometimes it starts innocently enough, just searching for a high. Sometimes it gets worse because that high isn't enough. RIP Heath. People need to stop saying the role caused heath yo take his own life. There is no truth to that. He was dealing with a lot in his personal life and was self medicating with prescription drugs. the role didn’t make him “crazy” or suicidal. People need to really stop believing that nonsense. It’s a huge disservice to the actor as well as the director and cast mates that knew him personally. It really pisses me off when people insinuate that nonsense.

Harvey Dent is LEGITIMATELY a good guy that was trying to actually better Gotham. He's that way in EVERY adaption of this pantheon, he's a genuine good soul that experiences a mental break tragedy that creates Two-Face. His main personality occasionally breaks through to lament what he's become right before Two-Face takes control again.

1:04:21 There were bullets, but if you notice, he was holding the hammer in place with his finger, so even if Dent pulled the trigger, the gun wouldn't shoot: 1:04:11
@oslafoirausuebutuoy5457
@oslafoirausuebutuoy5457 Год назад
There is a theory btw that Dent knew the Joker was holding the hammer and that was the whole point, he was supposed to notice. The joker was doing the same thing to Dent that Dent did the whole film to other people prior to that: offering a fake opportunity with the coin. The toss of the coin was useless because Dent never had a real chance of killing the joker, just like Dent never gave a real chance to other people before that with the trick coin. Basically the joker was proving the point he made earlier to Dent: random chance is the only real equalizer, it is the only fairness possible, by stopping the hammer the joker was preventing it to prove his point. From that moment on Dent starts actually using random chance instead of "making his own luck".
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens Год назад
I've heard that theory, but I don't think it's accurate. I think the finger-placement is coincidental. First, hammers have a lot more force than you might expect, so holding it with a finger, especially in that position, probably isn't happening (even the manuals for such weapons strenuously insist that de-cocking should be avoided at all costs, and if it must be done, you do it by putting your whole hand in between the hammer and the chamber, not by relying on one finger). Second, it simply doesn't follow from what we know of Joker's character. He doesn't offer false choices, because he doesn't want the people who choose to do horrific things to have the excuse of pretending they were forced to do it. Tricking people doesn't serve his purpose, which is to offer indisputable proof of his assertion that human civilization is, as he says, "a bad joke".
@oslafoirausuebutuoy5457
@oslafoirausuebutuoy5457 Год назад
@@michaelccozens It would make sense if the whole point of that specific thing was to change Dent's mindset, not to prove a point about civilization (there was no audience there except Dent after all). I think the Joker wanted to prove a point about human nature with the boats, not necessarily with Dent. I think Dent was an ace up his sleeve. In case the joker didn't manage to fulfil his goal, he would make sure all the criminals went free, undoing Batman and Dent's legacy, and destroying a symbol of justice for the city in the process. I don't know much about guns so afaik you could be right about the hammer. If you are it could be a mistake or it could be that the whole thing wasn't intentional, idk. I was just explaining a popular theory.
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens Год назад
@@oslafoirausuebutuoy5457 Your explanation is appreciated, as is taking my counterpoint in the spirit intended. It's troubling how often these kinds of rational disagreements can turn into rancorous personal feuds. Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt on that count! You raise interesting points, but I'm not sure the one about there being no audience in that Dent/Joker moment holds. Had Dent killed Joker in that moment, the info would almost certainly have been quickly discovered and disseminated, thus destroying Dent's reputation (as would have happened anyway if Bats didn't take the fall for the people Harvey did eventually murder). And that was Joker's goal, because Harvey was the last gasp for legitimate hope for the city and the system that supported it. Whether or not the mobsters Harvey arrested went free was incidental; once the rot of despair was established, it would spread fatally, either quickly or slowly. Joker didn't really care if he was there to see the final inevitable stages, as long as he knew they were now unavoidable. Dent was less a goal for the Joker than a weapon; he was the method by which Joker would destroy Gotham, and the myth (to him) of any social nature beyond the Hobbesian that condemns human existence to being "nasty, brutish, and short". Nolan really made quite a masterpiece here. It holds-up on a lot of levels.

The scars on the Joker are often referred to as a "Glasgow Smile," originated by gangs in Scotland in the 1920s and 1930s. A blade is taken, and a cut is made from the corner of the mouth, upwards towards the ear, typically on both sides. The question now becomes, was it self-inflicted, or did someone really give him those scars.
