it had a story that never truly looked down on its audience that being kids. It was like star wars and lord of the rings had a baby, sci-fi mixed fantasy. bio mechanical looking robots that had some sort of religion looking up to "the great spirit" that had 3 virtues; unity, duty and destiny. Mata nui being the God/Jesus figure they praised and Makuta being the satan/lucifer figure. Some dark themes such as corrupt government, possession, greed, torture, sacrifice, becoming some sort of werewolves like the hordika, traversing to the futurisic of islands like Metru Nui, the hellish apocalyptic nightmare of Voya Nui, and underwater prison that was filled with mutated alien like creatures known as Mahri Nui, and finally the swampy heavens that was karda nui, the very core of the the "great spirit" itself. My favorites were probably poor little Dekar becoming a terminator robocop called hydaxon, and Karzahni who mutilated any matorin that came to him and made them "better" by making them look like horrendous monsters, almost like a dr. moreau type character that made him all the more creepier.
@@EclipseHedgehog My favorite characters were Vezon who was a fusion of Deadpool and The Joker, and Toa Matau who was the Bionicle incarnation of Sonic the Hedgehog (2020).
@@theshadygentleman7575 adults now who grew up in that era as kids still cry about it to this day. it was one of the most selfless and heroic sacrifices in fiction, in LEGO of all things.
I love how the lore for the Barraki leaves you wanting. They used to be similar to the Matoran, but were given power and status to help coordinate them in their tasks. Out of greed they attempted to overthrow Mata Nui, but were swiftly defeated by The Makuta whom were essentially Mata Nui's primary method of interacting with all the lil' guys inside of him. The Barraki were meant to be executed, but a different faction called the Order of Mata Nui decided to chuck them into a prison known as The Pit. When Mata Nui crashed into Aqua Magna, The Pit quickly overflowed with polluted water that mutated them into weaker aquatic versions of their original selves. And we got ZERO TOYS OF THIS! Imagine how dope it would've been to see the Makuta in their prime before they became evil, doing battle with the echoes of their future.
The Barraki could easily be called demigods, even higher than a Makuta. They were divinely ordained and chosen to govern the universe as Mata Nui had other duties. Teridax himself is a product of the Barraki, as he clearly got the whole idea of taking the universe after witnessing how far the Barraki got, he took their place.. but smarter, from the shadows. And won where they couldn't in the end.
@@boysponge705 Greg deconfirmed that, actually. Despite the red being in places where you'd expect him to get bloodsoaked (his mouth, the tip of his blades), the red is apparently part of Pridak's natural coloring. Lego probably didn't want him or anyone involved to say that a children's toy was stained from the blood of his victims, so...
@@Kirby0189 Imagine if Greg confirmed that. Parents everywhere would have thrown a collective fit. Or Lego could just tell them that the red is cherry Kool-Aid.
Can we please acknowledge how they had all these big things in Bionicle already planned out back in 2001. The thing of Makuta taking over Mata Nui’s body maybe not the original plan but they had like all it already written which is top tier story telling write there.
Yeah it’s insane. Metru Nui, Voya Nui, Mahri nui and Karda Nui were all planned when Mask of Light came out, when Lego extended their original runtime. It’s insane that they planned the Mata Nui reveal from the start and the entire story 7 years before conclusion
@@theakiwar9118 yeah but it's also cool that Bionicle also saved Lego from going bankrupt if i'm not mistaken but i really wish that they would get back to bionicle and put effort into like they seen to be doing with the other lego cartoons/movies instead of that not even halfarsed cartoon {that had maybe the effort of a half hour tops put into it} that they 'tried' rebooting bionicle with
@@Quick-Silver206 I forget the guys channel name but he did a series called LEGO rewind where each episode covers every theme LEGO has done over its lifespan and the series finale was Bionicle which was very fitting. Also he had Halo music in the background which Halo music from the original Halo trilogy is very fitting for Bionicle.
@@nikajinpusno9563 This is the sad truth. Bionicle only came about because Lego was in dire straits and needed to take a huge risk, so they made a long-running story and complex lore aligned with cool action figures. Bionicle flopped hard in its final years, though, probably because kids who grew up with it were aging out and the story was becoming too complicated for new kids to get into without having been there for the earlier parts. Bionicle's aesthetic and tone would never be matched, because the 2000s were a unique time where kids' media tried to be edgy and hardcore (hence why they promoted it with music that sounds like Evanescence). They've found a formula that works with Ninjago, and if they were to bring Bionicle back they would probably stick to that formula until it stops working. If anything, a sanitized, safe reboot with none of the complex lore, continuous story, weirdness, or insane creativity is the best we're going to get. My hope is that if Lego ever goes into financial trouble again like the did in the late 90s, they'll do another weird edgy experiment that's at least comparable to Bionicle.
@@theotheraccount True - they tried a sanitised, safe reboot without a complex lore, or weirdness or insane creativity (all the GOOD things) in 2015. But it was obvious from the start than it was way too basic of a story, even if compared with Bionicle's 2001 basic good vs evil narrative. There was zero depth, zero mystery, zero originality. It all looked at best as a cringe lousy knock-off, including the sets. It looked like something you'd find on a Chinese novelty website selling Bionicle knock-off brands, despite the fact that the combination of the socket and ball joint and gears system was pretty great. The entire building system lost its finess and intricacy because it was Hero Factory's building system reused, with chunky blocks that attach to the figure instead of using gears, pins etc. The original LEGO Technic intricacy was still present in gen 1 Bionicle sets, even after the much-despised "Inika build" that everyone complains about - despite every other evolution of the building system coming about every 2-3 years (think 2001 Toa Mata to 2003 Toa Nuva - and even enemy Bohrok sets! - the same build repeated for 3 years, until 2004 Toa Metru evolution.) I for one think the Inika build was a great peak of the building system, and could have been evolved in the 2009 Glatorian line into what the 2015 Toa used - ball-and-socket combined with gears (It's important to mention also the new 2008 Makuta torsos). You can't forget also the Titan sets and the vehicle sets which always kept Bionicle deeply rooted in the Technic system with their intricacy, despite the cheaper action figure sets evolving to use more simplified builds. I agree the storyline at one point got too complicated and was overrunning the sales of toys (which was lego's primary objective as a toy company), so there's that as well. Lego is, sadly, not Marvel after all. They sell toys and tell stories to help sell them, not use merchandise to sell their stories. Finally, as I said, the change between the late 90s and 2015 was huge, so the historical moment in which Bionicle was born was unique and - as you mentioned - it is unknown when another crisis will hit Lego. I think even if it does, the world will have changed even more by that time and it's unlikely that Bionicle specifically will be making a comeback even then.
The beginning of the demo is much more powerful than the final version. The riff just gets more time to express itself. Overall however, the final version is a much better mixed and more heavy song due to the guitars being more audible and the singing being more aggressive.
At the bottom of the deepest sea many believe to be a place to find the strangest of creatures, others believe it is a place holding the worst of criminals, and finally there was a mask so powerful all of these beings would fight for and risk their lives to possess.
For centuries, the bottom of the deepest seas have been shrouded in mystery and superstition. Some say that it’s hostile place, inhabited by the strangest of creatures. Others that it’s a prison, for the most dangerous outcasts. Legend has it that the only way of ever getting out of there is a mask, one that everybody is prepared to fight for and risk that life to possess but, the only way of ever finding out is to go there and see for yourself...
Bro why did I just rediscovered this? It's fucking crazy how I was lucky to get into this franchise, freaking badass man. I can't put words together to just how epic was that commercial, it was more than a toy it was indeed a Legend as others have put it. Way ahead of its time. God dayum.
unfortunately it would be too costly especially in todays terrible economy as they'd have to completely reverse engineer the molds for the parts to be right and lego probably doesn't see it as worth the financial risk
You could get yourself some 3d-Printer and get a few of the base parts from the internet, or even make your own. Probably cheaper then to buy all the sets in todays price-ranges :X
I have no clue why I clicked this or what BIONICLE is, but this is amazing. Reminds me of Evanscene. I also found another version of this song while listening to this one, but this one's better because of the intro.
It's an old Lego theme that saved the company when they were having a hard time. It has a great story, I would recommend the Bionicle Retold videos by DruckBricks if your interested.
That white Barraki is named Pridak, one of the war lords on Aqua Magna, who was cast away along with the other five war lords by the order of Mata Nui, transforming the abominations we see now.
The initial riff in this version is way better Than the final version. But as another comment said, the guitars and vocals in the final version are way better. Best song would be Demo initial riff + final song
since i was little i build bionicle since 2001 and 2015 i saw the trailers the one clips try make them little funny but it not there very awesome and gali voice is a guy voice. i am very happy they bring it back. i think it before it bionicle
Las canciones eran de otros artistas pero si te refieres a que tuvo buenas elecciones es completamente correcto, sobretodo con Move Along y Creeping in my soul
Bonkle fan since 01, I stopped collecting the toys after 2005. I was just burnt out afterwards from collecting every single set i could and probably managed to know the importance of money at the time of age of 14 (at least sidorak and roodaka were unique villains and not makuta again unlike in 04), maybe i didn't like the idea of makuta still being alive? Perhaps i was groaning at the idea of hunting for another mcguffin mask that could bring forth another hero? maybe i didn't like how after all the hype Takanuva in 03 got he just gets sidelined? I know I didn't like the design of the toa Inika, and i kept hearing the builds were repetitive and didn't really improve in the next upcoming years of 2007-09. but man was I hooked for the spooky adventure the mcdonalds matoran we saw back in 2001 become toa, rehash of mask of light be damned. Voya and mahri nui were hellish and looked great with fun as hell villains such as the piraka and Barraki. It was quite something not many get the change to do.
