+Joe Momma I keep seeing people spelling it "Candace". I'm pretty sure it's "Cadence". Maybe they think it was misspelled in-game, but let me assure you that it wasn't. Her mom's name is "Melody" and her grandma's name is "Aria". Both names relate closely to music. This indicates that her family likes to name the women after musical ideas. And cadence is another word for rhythm.

Last time I tried Aria, I was killed by the dude with the pillow and the shovel. The fucker stepped into a confusion trap while running away, so it turned around and charged right towards me. I took me about half a minute to realize hoe I had died, since I was pretty sure there were no threats nearby.

+Dominic Hekashia (Chaos Fantazy) Totally planned. I was going to dig the throne out, but chat reminded me that you can't do that with phasing, so I came up with the plan of holding the goblin bombers in place with freeze, getting around behind them, and then using them to blow up the throne. Didn't quite go exactly as planned (hence getting hit by the blademaster), but it worked out in the end. As for gear hunting, since I didn't have phasing, checking shops would mean fighting extra enemies. I already had most of what I needed at that point (headpieces are mostly just very minor bonuses and are rarely important to a run), so I just played it safe by avoiding confrontation.

So little reaction time yet you managed to do it. You're a legend. I can't even beat Aria...

+GunbladeMaster34 Yes, skipping beats after your first movement on a floor will result in a missed beat death (or potion consumption, if you have one).

+dakkenly +Robin Ångerman You move with the arrow keys by default, with items being two simultaneous arrow keys for a given item. However, it shows that he has rebound his items to WASD (and E) to avoid missing beat via failing to properly hit two key or only hit one key and go in a direction that was not intended. I will assume he also rebound movement, as the arrow keys would not be the most optimal to maintain constant pressing with twitch reflexes. The controls are not comfortably placed for this sort of gameplay by default.

So in Necrodancer you move through randomly generated dungeons to the beat, picking up items and money and fighting monsters along the way. Coda is considered the hardest character because of her restrictions: speed of the beats are doubled. If you miss even one, you die. You cannot upgrade to an easier weapon. If you pick up money, you die. If you take a hit from an enemy, you die. He has managed to beat the entire game this way, which is the impressive bit!

especially since every 8th or so note is missing cause the song is different, which can easily kill you

The walls in that shop were gray instead of gold, and the shopkeeper had a slightly different sprite. That's a monstrous shopkeeper. It's rare but some shops are replaced with that. He teleports when hit, does not drop crown of greed, and once dead his items are free. Fighting him doesn't affect the regular shopkeeper.

That would be impossible, since Bard is different from all the characters due to having no beatmap.

Rarely you can meet that evil shopkeeper(not ghost). His song is different with normal, and he attacks immediately.

Also, killing him doesn't stop the real shopkeeper from showing up on later floors.

+Snitsky9 Nah. Coda is this game's The Lost, Samson, Eve, and The Keeper from The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth all put together. Not only in the sense that it's extremely sado-masochistic in its difficulty, but also in the sense that it's basically a bunch of characters combined, and the fact that Coda's gimmicks are centered around money and getting hit, although in this case he has to avoid both, rather than benefit from either of them.

Snitsky9 Add another point to that bullet list, if you miss a beat, you die. Now, add in that you have to move twice in a beat and the music doesn't help much with pointing the middle of a beat...

Coda essentially is the hardest character, combining gameplay of bolt, aria and monk. So you cannot take more than 1 hit unless you have potion or ice charm, 2x the beats and cannot pick up any gold whatsoever. Essentially almost impossible without lots and lots of practice.

Oh, glass armor will spare you one hit too.
