"Crystal Blue Persuasion" is a 1969 song originally recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells and composed by Eddie Gray, Tommy James and Mike Vale.
A gentle-tempoed groove, "Crystal Blue Persuasion" was built around a prominent organ part with an understated arrangement, more akin to The Rascals' sound at the time than to James's contemporary efforts with psychedelic rock. It included melodic passages for an acoustic guitar, as well as a bass pattern, played between the bridge, and the third verse of the song.
"Crystal Blue Persuasion" has been used in numerous media and entertainment properties, both onscreen and off.
"Crystal Blue Persuasion" has appeared in the films A Walk on the Moon (1999), The Secret Life of Girls (1999), Zodiac (2007) , "The Nanny Diaries" (2007), and How to Make it in America (2010). The song is also featured in the movie The Expendables 2 (2012), while Barney (Sylvester Stallone) is flying his plane.

I’m 77 years old and sitting out on my front porch on my porch swing thinking of the first time I heard this song in June 1969 - just got married - just home from 2 tours in VietNam - just got married and driving into Estes Park CO as the sun was arising on our honeymoon. It’s still my favorite song and so many great memories with it.

My dad was driving us to Wisconsin for our vacation. We left before sunrise. My younger brother was sleeping on the backseat and I had a pillow and was sleeping on the back floor. I woke up as the sun was rising to reveal a clear, blue sky. Then this song came on the radio at exactly that moment. That memory is still as vivid as it can be. Some things in life are not coincidences.

We made a lot of trips like that when I was a child. My dad would always have the car packed, everything on the roof rack. And we would get up around Chicago, 45 minutes from home, and the sun would be coming up just about the time we hit the Dan Ryan Expressway. Sleeping in the back of that station wagon, us three kids, Mom and Dad up front. I miss those days..............

Your story gives me a warm tingly feeling. As i too remember the “scene” when I first heard it. I spoke to Tommy James about this song and the things he said made it even more special. Later i summarized the conversation to this: “Crystal”… clear, truthful. No deception. “Blue”….Color of God… creation… Earth… seas and skies. “Persuasion”…. God is a Gentleman. He does not push, He Guides. He does not impose, He persuades. With patience, with evidence, and with never ending LOVE.

I was a young girl of 5 or 6 when Vietnam was happening. I had an older friend named David who used to watch out for me, share his Orange Crush sodas & buy me bubble gum that came with The Beatles card collection. We would listen to music on his small transistor radio. David was drafted & he never made it home. I was deeply affected being so young. I've never forgotten him. Named my son David so a part of him wil live on and continues with my grandson also named David. I haven't spoken about this in years....I'm happy you came home and hope your life is filled with hope, love, and peace. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity. Transmitting at 50,000 watts it blasted the entire East Coast. Dick Biondi was in the studio and he plays this 45... oh if only we could travel back to when music meant something meaningful.

I’m with you on that! I want to be cremated and take my ashes to the beach, let me blow in the warm summer winds, but before my girls let my ashes go, I want them to play this. I was very young when this song came out. About 10 - 15 years later I heard it on the radio, I went straight to the RECORD STORE > who remembers those? I bought the 45 rpm, and years and years ago it got lost in moving, along with my 45 rpm of Crimson and Clover. Or the movers looked through my boxes of records, and took what they wanted; even my Albums, 33 rpm Also took my Santana album, my Black Sabath and more of all my favorite. They must have known a lot about the value of those records. Even till this day if I could find those movers, I’d punch all of them in the throat!!!!!!

I heard this song for the first time when I was 37-years old, I am 52-years old now. Most people today don't like the songs of the 60's-70's anymore. All I hear from the new people today is STUPID STUFF like gangster rap, and songs that have nothing but obscene words and phrases and a lot of violence in them. Most people today think that if it's newer it's automatically better? I am a loner here now, broke, no family here, I just heard MOM Died 2-years ago, ehh just as well because they all you might say "dis-owned me" because all they wanted out of me was MONEY and once they got everything I had, I got thrown to the side like a DRUNK DOES A BEER-CAN once it's empty with NO-REMORSE what-so-ever. I haven't seen nobody in my family in over 14-years, if any of them are alive I can truly say "I DON'T KNOW". But as long as they worship: BOOZE, DRUGS, MONEY, NEW THINGS, and have the belief of "STAB THEM BACK FOR ANY AND EVERYTHING THEY CAN GET OUT OF ME" AND I NEVER HAVE, AND NEVER WILL! NOT EVERYTHING NEWER IS BETTER! THEY MAY HAVE ALL OF THOSE FANCY HI-TECH SOPHISTICATED NEW THINGS AND LOTS OF MONEY, BUT THEY DON'T HAVE LOVE FOR LIFE AND THEIR FRIENDS LIKE I DO. SO LIKE ONE OF THE VERSES GOE'S; "THERE WILL BE PEACE AND GOOD, BROTHERHOOD" GOD I WOULD GIVE EVERYTHING I WILL EVER OWN TO HAVE THAT IN MY LIFE. LOVE NOT MONEY. KEITH (MR HILLBILLY)

My oldest brother won me a little blue transistor radio when they had bowling leagues. I listened early in the day delivering papers in rural Connecticut. I took over a paper route for the neighbor and jammed to oldies that were still newer tunes for a kid. I brought the news of that dam war each day and the line from American pie was prevalent in my formative years. " bad news on the doorstep, I couldn't take one more step" But watching my brother Jerry pound the countertop to Wipeout or singing "my baby does the hanky panky" this Lad sang along 9 years younger having no idea what the words meant. 50 years later I still belt out the oldies appreciating the fact that I had the freedom to enjoy our precious musical history that keeps the tears flowing and the smiles that never end. Thank you Tommy but To all the older brothers and sisters who helped formulate our musical futures. My 30 year old Daughter is carrying on the tradition of listening to the oldies as was shared with Dad. Bittersweet!

My parents named me after this song, and trust me, it is the “gift” that keeps on giving day after day, year after year. It is still very comforting and wonderful, prophetic, too.

I've been listening to a lot of songs from the 68-69 era tonight. Just in that kind of mood. Brings back memories of old friends, the peace movement, poetry I used to write...I'm so glad I lived during that era. Deep inside, still hoping for that "better world". Peace...

Hell, do you have it? Didn't back then! Radical hippies! Now called liberals! You will have peace when consign yourself to the NWO. That way you'll live off the working people, until that put them into gulags. Reckon your demonrat government will throw you a crumb, a too? Wait for it.
