Verse 1] You never got to bloom They cut you from the stem You're innocent at birth Until you understand [Pre-Chorus] Repeat every word that you say to me They put you to use or put you to sleep I can't tell you the difference between An embryo or a planted seed Chorus] So many shades of white So many shades of pale I know what you hate So I do it constantly So many shades of white So many shades of pale I know how to cut A wound that will not heal [Verse 2] Consistency of dirt Insects that spun your silk They wait for gratitude They wait for mother's milk Pre-Chorus] Repeat every word that you say to me They put you to use or put you to sleep I can't tell you the difference between An embryo or a planted seed [Chorus] So many shades of white So many shades of pale I know what you hate So I do it constantly So many shades of white So many shades of pale I know how to cut A wound that will not heal Outro] So many shades of white So many shades of pale I know what you hate So many shades of white So many shades of pale I know what you hate I know how to cut A wound that will not heal I know how to cut A wound that will not heal
I can't count how many times I've listened to this song. I rarely pay attention to lyrics, at all; but, for some reason, I did today. There is so much magic in this song and then, I realized this is the "slowed + reverb" version. I give credit to Alice Glass for being able annunciate each word, within, such tight timing restrains at normal speeds. Incredible.
This song just screams happiness to me in its own crystal castles fuckrd up way. Its like being in a mountain crevice on 400ug just dancing cause it's the purest expression of joy. When you have nothing to be joyous about Almost moves.me.to tears
@@Mamimx9 No worries. It's not as if he wasn't telling the truth. I'm absolutely amazed if he was "tweaking out", how he had the concentration to write at all? I myself, like to go in the opposite direction on the scale of drug preference. I love going slower and dreamier, which might explain, why I love these "slowed + reverb" versions; then, philosophize and draw in my sketchbooks. I'm glad I came across this video, the slowness about it makes you really have to stop and listen to the lyrics. And it makes me feel a sense of bittersweet nostalgia?

@@jfururiirru8441 oof they are too many comics. And I don't like the storytelling western comics use, the issues never get resolved, it's always about action and guys punching eachother :/
@@petervonfroster8i he wasnt being a perv- they wanted to dance because rogue wasnt good at dancing, and spike thought it was a good moment to capture for his school project
I prefer this song much better, when, it's slowed even more by another (-5) to (-10)%. Everybody has a favorite song by Crystal Castles and, "Pap Smear" is mine. The song title, itself, is a completely "Alice Glass" thing to do -- she is a pure genius. And, I also have a running debate with friends, that "only" when Crystal Castles is "slowed and reverberated" ; they, sound more like the Cocteau Twins. Sure, the Cocteau Twins are, not, completely electronic but, "both their vocal techniques" seem congruently aloof and abstract in meaning. The Cocteau Twins don't have a deep base sound, which, is something I like to adjust myself to listen to them. It's funny and sad to me, that the Cocteau Twins withstood enormous amounts of criticism and pressure on Elizabeth Fraser, regarding her lyrics. Hold on to that thought, before anybody starts with the old argument, that Elizabeth doesn't have lyrics -- she most definitely does! Personally, It makes no difference to me, whether or not, that I absolutely must know all the lyrics -- Music is an "Art", first and foremost. I hate labels and categorizations, that attempt to pigeonhole and differentiate between musical genres; Electro-punk, Electro-clash, Synth-pop, Witch house, Nintendo-core, and especially Experimental-Electro/Light-EBM. Society cripples itself with these generic associations. We have, deliberately; allowed and convinced ourselves to shackled and self-imposed "corporate restraints" to profiteers, who, dictate an arbitrary psycho-social and socio-economic hierarchy. Free thought, has become a rarity that is about to tilt into obscurity. Originality, is transformed into mere product, relegated into "musical forms" which is already mass-produced by worshiping a manufactured -- "pastiche". So sorry, I went off into an intellectual tangent, but, share your thoughts. In my opinion, if you're here listening to Crystal Castles and reading my comments; then, your also an "independent thinker". Writing is music, characterized in its high and low octave's, narrated by a singer's vocal movement and instrumentally reinforced by an emotive conclusion, always focusing its efforts to build monuments in memory, occasionally finding immortality with the author of all things. "Always Remember, We are The 'New Counter-Culture': The Conservative Elitists, Fear and Loathe, The 'Independent Thinkers' " --- Raven Shadow "Contemplations: Native American Philosophy"
@@Jess-wp1td A well phrased and such a carefully thought out response. I really do appreciate those who are independent thinking and have strong opinions, if they're able to properly articulated it, in both mind and spirit. I also, get a little ecstatic to find good people, who will take the time to write well and to also read with some intelligence. Unfortunately, the average RU-vid user, has the attention span of a common housefly, who don't care; with an exception, to try to think of the next catchy meme. It's getting better, now that the pandemic quarantine is over and I'm not constantly berated by homeschool teenager's, attempting to overpower my particular writing style. If people only knew, a homeschooled child is only, as intelligent as, their teacher -- I guess, I was fortunate. By-the-by; if, you appreciate Alice Glass, as much as myself, then take a listen to her, as she ventures into a solo career: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-it6esju-_X0.html Thank you and be safe out in the world.
I want either a normie gf or a goth gf to dance to crystal castles with at this point, I ain't picky, and if they like crystal castles that's good enough for me
@@petervonfroster8i It's definitely good but there's also good cartoons like this today. I think this show's fatal flaw is being so 2000's lol. If they made a good reboot with better animation this show would be one of the best reboots ever lol
