No idea why it's not made 1000% clear in the video but you need to disconnect both the trunk and auxiliary battery or you risk frying your shift module. As simple as this mod seems if you manhandle the ribbon cable or leave either battery connected your car could very well end up on a tow truck.
Hello I installed everything, just one thing drives me crazy, does start stop button stick normally on left drivers side? I mean, its not flat at all edges, just sticks a little bit more on my left side It looks on your video it also sticks a bit, or im wrong? Thanks!
How do i disconnect the battery on an M440i 2023 Convertible to do this (i heard there was two places?) also do i have to? and will BMW service techs detect a foreign circuit board when they're looking at the car? Finally can this Chinese made circuit board ruin the rest of the circuitry in the car or its ok?
Hey there! First is to deactivate the 48 V electrical system by opening the hood (Deactivation is automatic) and the second is under the cargo area floor covering at the trunk, there you should loosen the nut and pull the negative battery cable of the system battery. As for the second question - hard to tell really. It depends on BMW worker that is checking your car over at the moment.
Ummm, does this guy realize he's pronouncing bimmertech as beemertech? Totally incorrect. Anyway, it's a good install video. Now what about the unmatched volume knob?
Hey man! You keep commenting this, but I pronounce it the way the owner of the company named it and pronounces it. Also apparently how 50 Cent pronounces it. Lol. Sorry! :P - Dylan
Worst freaking tutorial! I just installed the set yesterday while leaving the console in the car, and now I get a service message that the gear shift won't shift. IF making the change somehow shorted the console, this video should have made it absolutely clear that turning off the battery was required.
Hey Brian! First of all - sorry to hear you faced an inconvenience while installing. To be clear - we do provide detailed install instructions with the product for our customers. The video should be treated as an additional help only. In the instruction we mention disconnecting the battery is necessary. We do also point out that you have to disconnect the battery in the video description.
I get the "parking brake" error and the gear shift area does not light up, what can I do? I mention that I removed the 2 batteries from the back, I have 330e
what if u break the connection that goes into the shifter bcs of of the plastic thingy came off now it shows a error code on my bmw but i could still drive but it tells me my transmission is bad
Hi Everyone, I have a bmw m440i 2023 convertible and just purchased a crystal shifter. I’ve heard a lot of people frying their console when putting it in so i really need to disconnect the battery first. I have found the battery at the back of the trunk under the carpet and will take off the negative one, however i saw there is another battery under the hood. Do i need to disconnect this one too and if so, how do i do so and is it negative too? Thanks so much
Hello, I have a question because I know that the battery should be disconnected for safety reasons, what if my car is a Bmw x5 45E hybrid, is it enough to disconnect the standard batteries or will the power supply still be from the batteries that are in the floor of the hybrid, best regards
Hey! Still you'd better off disconnecting the battery. The batteries from the hybrid powertrain are meant to supply the power to the electric engine, not to run on-board instruments. So yeah, you'd better off going the old-fashioned way :) Cheers!
Hi there, you don’t need to disconnect the battery, I have just completed the installation, I opened both doors and then with a screwdriver lock the door receivers and turn on the alarm,so now the central unit cuts power to it, I then removed the central unit ie the gear shifter unit. I then installed the new kit. My rotation knob still works with the finger 🖕 sensor as well. When finished just open the doors by pulling handles and turning off alarm, the alarm won’t go off as it senses the doors open but it still cuts power to central dash for installation. Hope the is helps.
For this retrofit you do not need to remove the cupholder, however we are showing how to do it in our wireless charger installation video for the G20: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GT_x8bmjIZw.htmlsi=BdD9UYyucijXJxUM
We strongly emphasize the need for disconnecting your car battery in all of our pdf installation guides. While we regularly upload installation guides for our products, they are primarily meant as visual aids to supplement the .pdf instructions, which should be your primary source of information about the installation process. We always send out detailed .pdf instruction manuals to our customers right after the order payment has been processed, so even before the product has been shipped out. Have you purchased the product from us? If so, have you contacted our Technical Support Team to possibly try and resolve the issue?
Thats not an appropriate response. Even if it is in the pdf, most people are going to watch the video and go based on that. If you know that its necessary to disconnect the battery because the shift concsole could be fried and need replacement, this video should have made it ABSOLUTELY clear that the battery needed to be disconnected. It would have been a 5 second warning. Unprofessional.@bimmer-tech
Please help… I went to disconnect the ribbon covering the screw to take off shifter but now it’s throwing me lights stating car won’t go into any gear or park?… I took it in and they want to replace the whole shift module for $2500… please help me. Is there any solutions?
if you left the battery connected while you did that you shorted out the entire shift module, you could try a shift assembly from the junkyard but it may need programing at the dealer to work anyways.
@bimmer-tech True. It was offered in the X7, but I see a lot of videos where people are putting retrofitted versions in 3 Series, 5 Series, multiple smaller X Series SUVs, but no 7 Series sedans. We'll, it is what it is I guess.
no, i know what the issue is tho. Wouldve been nice to know that you need to disconnect the battery from the car. i caused a short circuit in the center consol and i need to change it. You did not mention that in your video...@@bimmer-tech
