Palace were 3-1 down against Blackburn after the first leg of the 1989 play-off final but an Ian Wright brace sent Selhurst Park into jubilation and the Eagles to promotion!
A 52 year old man was having a tough day, then he saw his 22 year old self in the post-match celebrations and the world become a little brighter......thank you for posting this Palace............thank you.
after a miserable first leg in blackburn, this was awesome. what they didnt show was a screamer from simon garner, that suckling tipped over, in extra time. i couldnt watch after that. great times
Mates and I went by coach to the first leg of the semi and the return journey was a little flat, obviously. Somehow we managed to get an extra ticket for the second leg and took an American friend who had never been to a 'soccer' game before. That day was madness for us, I can't imagine what it was like for him!
The worst ever day for Rovers!! But on a positive note it inspired a few disgruntled fans to start a fanzine. '4000 Holes' is now 30 years old!😄 (@roversfanzine)
I was one of those guys running on the pitch . Even got sprayed by stevie coppells champagne & never washed that stained shirt again . Unbelievable match 👏
I was in the Whitehorse for reasons that I just can't remember. I used to sit with the boys in the Old Stand for the grog (was it the Eagles Nest bar then?). I just knew Madden wasn't going to miss and then Wrighty did the biz at the end. After the game I blagged my way into the press box, called my mate in Oz to give him the gen and then wandered into the dressing room until Coppell (fairly enough) asked all the non-players to leave! The memories!
