Joe, K8LKC, explains the tuned circuits, inductive coupling, how he homebrewed the diode for the detector with a piece of galena crystal and more! Joe also added a two-stage audio amplifier and a horn speaker for the demonstration that allows us to hear the multitude of quality AM BC signals.

The station above the Nashville, which I presume is 650 AM, is 660 AM New York City. WFAN sports. Amazing sensitivity and selectivity. I think the loose coupling does that. Thanks so much for sharing!

If both variable capacitors have to be at the exact same position, could you not mechanically connect them to move with only one dial? Or is there some benefit to having them be independent?

A day or two late, I'll respond... Yeah, back then, a tuner would have the caps on the same axle, turned by a knob or set of pulleys.

How did you know how far away the coil coupling would have to be before construction. I suppose either you just place the two halves in proximity to each other to find it, or, is there a formula for that?

What kind of wire are the coils made of and how important is that for selectivity?

Since i dont have a backyard long enough for the 278 foot antenna can my antenna be a letter C shape of the same length?

Should work, in my research and limited experience getting it up 20+ ft is more important than the length.

@@Broken_Yugo you know what i dont understand is my tiny but simple modern day loop antenna (probably has ferrite coil) is working way better than my 75 foot antenna located at height of my roof.
