That summer, 2001, where I live, it was rain and thunder almost every day. Those magic times are forever gone, and I miss them so, so much playing Counter-Strike.. Edit: Wow, ty so much for all these likes!!

Ahhh...2001, a simpler time. I was 10 years old, my middle class parents could afford a decent house, a computer good enough for CS and Max Payne. Inflation was low, crime was extremely low for Sweden that time. No social media, people were still social in real life. Thanks for taking me back!

The original CS 1.3-1.6 is timeless, i see this short gameplay and just think i still love playing it and these graphics are kind of "forever good enough" - not sure how to explain. i miss those days, ahhh... mIRC :) those days will never return.. and one more thing, thank you so much for this upload.

This is literally my childhood lol. Btw, if you go to any office (during free time), or internet shop in Viet Nam, you’ll see many people play this games, no matter what age they are. It’s like there are thousands of Vietnamese play this game each day, and you can find lots of CS1.3 Servers there 💪😆

This takes me back. Played back when it was just a beta mod for HL. Downloading a big update of 72 mb took me two days on my dial-up.

I had so good times. My older brother had the only computer. I was like 10. I was in love with the game first seconds i played it. He played after school until midnight. I played in the night until morning and then went to school and slept in the afternoon. I remember the smell and heat of the computer and a room that wasnt left for several hours with closed windows :). ICQ, MIRC, HLSW etc. My brother later played on semi pro lvl and i wasnt allowed sometimes to watch him playing so he can focus. Unlucky for him, the router was outside the room he locked. That brought me in a position of power :D Oh man thank you for the good memories.

That Unreal music and the footage on the screen gives me so much nostalgia, I wish I could go back in time, holy sh1t.

that icon is the same icon from when i started in beta 2.7. the unreal tournament soundtrack in the background is an extra cool addition that adds another layer of nostalgia. I actually felt goosebumps more than once remembering this much more innocent era of the internet. thank you for this slice of so many of our pasts.

stuff like this was way before my time, but I find it really cool regardless. I guess I just feel like because I'm a part of the "digitally native" generation downloading and playing games while chatting to friends online is less special. It's just a thing everyone does. but I think when internet access was pricier and a lot less common, stuff like this would have been pretty cool to be a part of.

It sure is very nostalgic, I wasn't into CS back then, got stuck with a knockoff version of it running under ut99, called Tactical Ops. We used MSN Messenger to communicate before steam was even out, gathering together every day at the same hour after school was done. Got stuck on it for so long I didn't see the time fly 😂 Years later, bought the CS anthology pack from a physical store, but turned out it didn't have any cd key printed anywhere inside 😅and that's pretty much where I got hooked up on valve games and whatnot after finally getting that darn key. Great times make great memories, thank you for this time capsule 🙂

In early 2000s I was too poor to own a PC, I played 1.3 in Internet cafe's. Back then CS just transitioned from Half-Life multiplayer and it all seemed more realistic than life. Internet Cafe's were PACKED with kids playing Lan and on local city servers VS other Internet Cafe's located across the city. Some 12-13 year olds were freaking insane at the game spending all their money at the Cafe would draw a crowd of other kids looking over his shoulder watching him play. Then the owner would tell everyone to disperse cuz it was getting so crowded and loud lol Now im 33 and its just bits and flashes of my memory, being poor street kid but having enough money to play 2-3 hours a week. Bitter sweet time of my life

I was born in 2001, anyway my childhood was counter strike and these games, I live in a third world country and technologies are always late, but today cs 1.6 and previous versions are part of the culture of my country (no joke ), thanks to you, who forged these games and made them so popular

Back in 2001 i had an AMD Duron 800 with 256mb ram and 64mb video, i loved playing quake 1, MDK, cs and few years later tibia...everything was so simple back then, miss it

Timeless memories. I remember it from version 1.1 , 1.5 was my favourite as it was the most desired from all until 1.6 came (I was really hating on it firstly) but then all of a sudden version 1.6 took all of us and that’s the golden era of CS.. not these present craps of CS nowdays of which ruined the drama experience. Shout out to all the ones of who have lived those old days with full joy!

Maps looked way better on 1.3. Especially aztec. I imagine a few people were upset when 1.6 came out and made everything look bland in comparison.

That was amazing! btw, those were way too skilled players for that time lol I see many doing the scroll docks (it wasn't a wide spread thing until late-ish 1.5). Encoutering a good player back then we would say those were pro 😂

I never experienced this era bc i was 5yo but it feels like times were better. I still remember windows xp and i miss it so bad, it gives me somehow the same vibe windows 98 has back in the day. I remember playing half life 1-2 for the first time in 2006 and thats where pc fps got me. I didnt like fps when i was a teenager i was more into nintendo games. But valve.❤
