I think it's obviously a problem with the left solenoid as the one on the right is clearly working fine. It could be that it seized and they just decided to only use the one side, hence the pulse but then you can almost hear it clunk shut at the start of the test so I don't know but I wonder if that's it on permanent pulse now lol 🔊🤩
How strange, was the left solenoid not opening at all then? If so, I wonder if both solenoids were working then we’d find out if it’s actually meant to be doing a longwinded hi-lo signal similar to Broadmoors old system 😂 Would be awesome if you could also grab an ambience video of this next time, bet it would sound weird as!
analysis time you can hear at the start when the shutters open that one of the more dominant notes from it opening is a c#. while the shutters are closed, you can hear what i used to think was the motor whining actually usually starts around a c# and lasts until a c flat, which suggests the shutters are the actual cause behind the whining. you also usually won't hear that whine on any other siren without shutters. this suggests that, like another commenter from another video on one of the broadmoor sirens said, that whine actually is the shutter experiencing resonance. my theory is, as the siren often tends to shake while sounding, years of that will cause more wear on the screws and/or the holes that hold it in place, that connects the stator and the shutter, which causes more whine overtime. this is likely why you can hear a lot more of that whine on the lanark siren, or any of the broadmoor sirens (aside from the trl and crowthorne station siren)
At least we know what broadmoor’s CS8’s originally sounded like when they used Pulse as their signal from 8th December 1952 (when the first test was conducted) until the 60’s
@@randomores thanks 😊 though I must say, GothicGman actually filmed it a month before me, but he only got the audio as he wasn't in the village at the time, just nearby 🔊
Great video, nice to see there are other siren enthusiasts out there! I have a collection of small sirens, they are loud enough, but nothing like this :)
hope this siren is repaired soon if its not already ?!?... though random interesting note i just realised this is probably the first siren to do pulse since the 50s/60s :0
This has got to be a pre-programmed signal, if only we could see what the inside of that control box looks like. I heard this one was broken a while back? Seems like they've messed it up a bit when they fixed it, absolutely love it though!
Yes that's right, this one packed in a few months back but they sorted it quick and I've said what you said, I think they've got some wires crossed so to speak when they sorted it lol but yeah it does make it rare and awesome! 🔊🤩
@@thunderchild2756 there used to be a chemical plant in Leeds that had a SECOMAK or KLAXON CS8 that did exactly what this siren is doing and it sounded like a ship horn with the distinctive low everyone of the two tones joining together
@@BritishLifeSafetySystems it was part of a big brewery so it had some kind of hazards so it needed a siren witch had shutters witch made a pulse sound like one at Carstairs witch is at Carstairs village or some village there. It sounded like a very big horn because of the low note caused by the dual 10/12 tones sounding together
maybe not since on google maps there were no bushes and not even the massive fence but just a little fence in 2008 and 2009 but sadly there are no other street views until 2021 after that. clear angles you would’ve gotten back then!
Yup. The Thunderbolt 1003 is capable of doing pulse, however the flasher has to be re-programmed to do it. Unless it is manually done, Pulse and Hi-Lo cannot be programmed on the same flasher at the same time.
Broadmoors cs8s have been gone for nearly 3 years now 😔 I heard they were auctioned to various companies that require site sirens and they were replaced by one Klaxon electronic siren on the hospital roof which gets silent tested, so no one can even film it 🔇🤬
The high and low solenoids open one at a time with hi lo, so you get a kinda "nee naw" effect, but with pulse, both solenoids open and close at the same time, giving the usual dual tone effect but in a pulsing tone 🔊
This is really strange! I've never heard of a CS8 doing pulse. I would typically think it would do Hi-Lo instead. Not a lot of dual rotor sirens here in the United States do pulse either, unless they're programmed to do so. I personally think they should keep it this way, it sounds a lot more unique. I am still curious as to how they would have fucked it up like this though.
It's possible. But unfortunately this siren no longer sounds at all now, only the damper(s) open and close. Look at my Carstairs Village follow up video for a couple months ago 👍🏻
@@thunderchild2756 if a branch got caught in the rotor, it would stop the rotor moving, the I’ve caught my finger in my CS6 rotor and nearly cut off the nail, when even spinning at a low rpm, the rotor becomes a guillotine
Extremely unlikely as from whst I've read and even speaking to locals up there, they really do value their sirens and are actually relived when they get tested as they know they are working and feel safe, and if one isn't working it quickly gets sorted. And its only once a month for a few minutes, its not like a daily thing so o doubt it's anything to do with noise complaints as no one has ever said anything before that I know of..... if anything they complain when they don't go off lol 🏥🔊🤣
@@CycloneJoey518 it is a mystery though lol but someone will know.... it's the hospital that controls them and sets them off, so if only I knew someone who worked there maybe they could tell us why lol
