No definitely not. Sorry, that was just for illustrative purposes. I was just trying to illustrate which bit of code I was using to teaching which concept. The concepts of child and descendant selectors do not need classes involved at all. The selectors can be any type and the concept works the same. You could use element selectors like p > span { ... } for a span element that is a direct child of a paragraph. Or div ul { ... } for an unordered list that is a descendant at some level within a div. Hope that makes sense!
You asked this on another video, but will reply here to so people can see. Definitely! If you really know how to burrow down and select elements, you can avoid using class selectors all together. Not that there's anything wrong with using class selectors. It is a technique I do find useful though when working with React and a CSS library like styled-components (styled-components.com/), for example. I try to avoid needlessly adding classes to styled-component elements and so you really get to exercise your selector knowledge. Just one example I find useful. Hope that isn't confusing!
