Very often, CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing) is not properly bonded to the electrical grounding system on both sides of the regulator. This video explains why and how to fix it.
Visit www.brennenteel... to learn about why this gas tubing is controversial.

This is good information about the regulator, but NFPA 250.104 also indicates the CSST also needs bonding, not just the metal pipe. Most manufacturers require bonding at the fitting as well to ensure the prevention of arc flash.

Thanks for your comment. The main point of the video was to say that CSST (not just the metal pipe) needs to be bonded and if the regulator breaks the electrical bond, it needs to be corrected with a jumper across the regulator. There isn't a metal pipe in the video - it's all CSST. So yes, you are correct that CSST needs bonding (not just the metal pipe) and yes, that's exactly the point this video is making.

Excellent info. I have seen installers missing bonding and grounding

Is pipe dope and teflon tape conductive? IF it is not, the CSST is still not bonded since it is isolated from the black iron.

I wouldn't think it is not conductive, but I've conducted continuity tests on regulators that had pipe dope and teflon tape and found continuity. So the real issue is when plastic regulators are in place, in which case continuity is lost. A continuity test with a multimeter is a good way to find out.

There is still a solid metal to metal contact within the threads as tape and dope only fill in the tiny voids in the threads. When a fitting is undone one can clearly see the steel threads.

I have a question. I don’t know if my iron pipe is grounded. If I add a grounding rod next to my meter and bod the main line entering would I be okay? If I want to add on a CSST line later to my system would I still be safely bonded?

Is that a venting regulator?

Yes

@@housetohomeinspectionservi3755 That regulator has venting and belongs outside by code by meter. The distribution tube is ok in attic.

Why not to show where another end of copper wire is connected to?

The other end of the copper wire is connected to the ground bar in the electrical panel

SUDDENLY we are told that the iron gas pipe is not grounded, even though it just ran through the ground. I am surprised. And that a copper rod hammered into the earth is not grounded either. News, eh? I sense some BS with CSST grounding.
@housetohomeinspectionservi3755

The iron gas pipe riser is not considered a grounding electrode conductor - after a foot or two, it changes to a poly carbonate material. The iron riser's contact with the earth cannot compare with a 3/4 solid copper rod driven 8 feet into the ground (who said that's not grounded btw??) The point of it all is to tell the escaping current where it needs to go to find its path back to the ground instead of to people or equipment. You want it to run back to the panel, because (in theory) that's where the ground system is. Which is to say there's a ground rod driven 8ft into the earth.

In most locations the cheap lazy electrical supplier only runs 1 high voltage wire to the primary of distribution transformers and connect the other side of high voltage wire to the transformer case and neutral wire ( called an auto transformer ) so current must flow on every copper water service, steel has pipe & even cast iron soil pipe. I a!ways read at least 1/2 amp on copper water service even when that houses main circuit breaker is off. Have read 1/4 and more on every steel gas line.

There is no such thing as "plastic" gas regulators. Dialectric unions are only used on water lines, not gas lines. They are not fire rated. Water lines don't have to be fire rated. You probably saw a bootleg.
@housetohomeinspectionservi3755
@housetohomeinspectionservi3755 11 месяцев назад
Not “plastic” technically, nor am I referring to a dialectic union, but it’s a non-conductive poly material at the ends of the regulator. Those fail a continuity test. That’s what I’m referring to, but it’s admittedly rare.

You've got bigger problems if lightning strikes that 3rd world wood framed shack. American construction is substandard.
