And here what's fascinating about this gustav. Not only ya'll saw this in a movie. It really happen in real life. I did watch the actual footage of this, and this is exactly what went down. You amaze me Gustav. 😀😀😀😀
Yes, I heard it mentioned in the video, "CSX Indianapolis Line: Marion to Sidney Ohio", by Green Frog Productions Ltd. I even have it on DVD. The Indianapolis Line and Toledo Branch Subdivision crossed each other over a rail diamond at Ridgeway, Ohio. The CSX 8888 incident happened on the Toledo Branch Sub on May 15th, 2001, and it made national headlines, too. Then in 2010, the Hollywood movie, "Unstoppable", was based on the event.
Gustav. You've nail that one good man. This is the one of best short game movie I've seen. I don't know that you made the soundtrack or it's your own original, but that soundtrack blend in real nice . We have a new train movie director here. Go ahead on gustav. You are way ahead of your game.
Great video! Although, what happened was 8888 was a selector control stand. There was no dynamic brake handle. The engineer thought that the selector was on dynamic, and set the throttle to notch 1 to keep the locomotive running. He had the independent brake on, bu that soon wore off as the power of the locomotive soon overpowered the brake. So the locomotive was only in notch 1 the whole time. Still, great video!
I think he tought he selected the dynamics and put it in notch 8 which would slooooow it down, but he screwed up somehow ? So it wasn't on dynamics it was just throtle 8 which is why the train sped up so fast and contined going over 30mph.
This is a very cool video! I was born a few months later so sadly I missed all the action in 2001. I don't know if you take requests, but I'm a big fan of the old DM&E, and I was wondering if you'd like to try and re-create a crash that occurred in Bettendorf, Iowa, in July of 2009. Basically what happened was DME 4003 and 4001 (both were gp-40s) were hauling a consist through there at about 2:30 in the morning. A BNSF crew left a switch lined for a siding with cars in it. 4003 and 4001 hit the cars head on and killed the engineer and conductor. 4003 was scrapped and 4001 was repaired. Looking forward to more videos!
GUSTAVTIME no problem! It will take a lot of custom work, but I think you'll be able to pull it off, with the skills I've seen you work with, like the abandoned railroad bridge. If You need information about the accident I can provide you with links and pictures, there's also a full report for sale online on eBay and amazon on the crash. The most I know about the train is there were 19 stationary cars in the siding that 4003 and 4001 crashed into.
actually the reason 8888 ran away was the same as in unsttoppable: the driver abandoned the loco during movement to throw a switch but did not set the dynamic brakes and the aihoreses betwwen the engine and cars was not connected so the "dead man's switch" safety function from applying the emergency brake
csx68 midwest and western railroad . They have had alertors for at least the last 50 years. This is old technology. The alertors didn't work because the air brake was applied. When applied the alertors is cut out.
So in the real life incident, there was only one locomotive but in the unstoppable movie there was two locomotive. But how many loco otives exactly have on the 8888 incident?????
Had it been Thomas The Tank Engine that was pulling that train, he could've just told him to stop. Well, at least they sent Harold The Helicopter out to check on the unfolding event.
Thomas would still need his driver or fireman to apply his brakes to stop. 8888's brakes were applied the whole time, they were useless against the EMD 645 prime mover though
U realize it didn't start randomly, it actually started because somebody needed to pull a switch, so he hopped off thinking he could get back on. But when he pulled the switch, the train was moving faster than it was when he got off. When he couldn't get back on and the train got away
Welcome to the news: Today in Ohio a train has been moving without an engineer. Police have blocked the crossing to prevent any incident with it. People have tried ideas like using a derailer and shooting the fuel shutoff button but both plans failed. The train was slowed down with another locomotive enough for someone to get on board and applied the braking.
Some creep climed up into the locomotive and started it moving then jumped off before it got up to speed and took off running got in his truck and drove off just like that no one even noticed him I don't know how often this sort of thing happens, but I can tell you this I've been to the tracks many times out in the country and I've walked right up to locomotives four off them engines running!!! and there was absolutely no one around and they were unlocked!!??? since I like the railroad I did not play around with anything touch anything etc this was at night pretty scary weird kinda fun to...😐😐🤔🤔..FM..
Did I miss the end...did the back SD40-2 Hook the train enough to slow it down so he could jump on to stop the train??? I never knew about this .....and I'm a big train buff....and embarrassed at the same time......wow!!
What if somebody took this video and when it got to the runaway part grass skirt chase would play and when it got to the chase part sponge monger would play
that is not what happened a hobo did not jump on board and touch the controls this is not Runaway Train. what happened was the crew was switching out their train and the yard hostler disconnected the air hose and MU cables and the FRED was removed that was cause number 1. cause number 2 the engineer instead of the hostler was being lazy he was suppose to check the switches and the engineer jumped off, threw the switch and placed his engines in Notch 8 which is a no no. Crazy 8 speed out of the yard and they had to chase it down. it ended the same way Unstoppable ended another locomotive hooked on and the crew shut it down. Today Crazy 8 is in Boise being salvaged for parts.
Aaron Peavler/Geomodelrailroader Railroad Photography it was rebuilt and that is a station master that jumped on 8888 not a hobo the end was caught by abc news
GUSTAVTIME the San Bernadino train disaster that killed the conductor of the train and crashed into the town below causing a gas main to break and explode two days later
