CTA's next generation of rail cars enter in service testing for the first time on the Red Line. Every new rail car series does 1 year of in service testing on all rail lines to ensure they fit accordingly across the whole 'L' system and in all weather conditions.
CTA's 7000 Series cars, being built by CRRC Sifang America, will replace CTA's 2600 Series cars which were built between 1981-87 and are currently the oldest in the fleet. The base order for the cars is 400 cars. If all options are picked up for 846 railcars, the 7000 Series will also replace 3200 Series cars, built 1992-94 by Morrison-Knudsen. The cars are expected to run on the Blue, Brown, and Orange Lines.

On the MBTA in Boston the new Orange and Red Line cars have been grounded due to problems with the trucks on them this is what caused the derailment on the Orange Line in March CRRC of China and the makers of the trucks for the new Orange and Red Line are working to find out why they derailed

they will replace 2800 series from the 80s until 2022-23

Not if they get the full set of 846 cars to replace the 2600’s and the 3200. It could like 2-3 years like they did with the 5000’s when they were put in service.

@@brandonlightfoot5631 no the 3200 should drive until 2030s if the delivery becoms bad but 3200 has a chance think i so and 2600 will be until then resold 3 or 4 units to the ilinois railway museum and cta preserve it too.

@@tigercat3291 they’re way behind on replacing rail cars. CTA is 10 years replacing the 2600’s which makes them 40 years old and the 1st of the 3200’s will hit 30 years old which is recommended by the FTA for rail cars to be retired.

There is no 2800 series. You mean 2600 series, which is 2601-3199. They're numbered after the first hundred in the order.

I rode the 7000 series on the Red Line, they have that new car smell, I Love them ,when will the 7000 be on the Red Line, permanently.

Actually, these trains will most likely replace the Alstom 2600-series trains, which are running on the Brown, Orange, and Blue lines. The Red Line is stocked with 5000-series Bombardier trains from 2009, so the 7000-series will most likely not run on the Red Line.

@@chicagotransitenthusiast4309 I feel for tourism sake, they'll probably run some of these on the Red and Purple line and move some the 5000 Series to other lines

The thing that gets me is they weren't on the pink line that long and already they're on the red line but spent the most time on the blue line

Yeah with the Pink Line being my personal favorite line, I do wish it stayed there longer. I have another Pink Line 7000 video coming up of the train at several different stations along the Pink. I just had to get this video out first.

@@ChicagolandTransit yeah I think they should add the blue line back to the 54th and cermak line that would also get more flow of the 5000s down there I understand due to those cars being as heavy as they are would further deteriorate tracks on the forest park end but

@@codycochran5056 for what? They don't need 2 blue branches again. Plus, Pink allows pax to go to The Loop rather than the Subway.
@ChicagolandTransit

@@RRansomSmith Before the Pink Line the transfers were easier to go either north, northwest, or south from the Douglas branch. Stay on same train to go to O'Hare, transfer to Red Line at Jackson via tunnel without exiting the station. It was also quicker since you don't have to wait for the train to go around the Loop for 8-10 minutes. The purpose of the Pink Line was to increase service; better intervals on the Douglas branch by giving it its own line.
